September 2018, we contacted the owner of KT Truck Repair, Kevin Skavenski, in regards to our truck that needed repaired. He agreed to look at the truck and evaluate the repairs needed. We stressed to him that we wanted to purchase all parts needed ourselves because of financial considerations and he assured us that this would not be a problem and that he would keep us apprised of all information and he ensured that there would be no surprises. We also asked him for an estimate of how much it would cost to repair the truck. He stated that he would not be able to give an estimate until he had a chance to look over the truck. October 2018 after his initial assessment of the truck, he informed us that we needed to purchase a Diesel Engine Wiring Harness Pigtail Connector, a FICM Engine Fuel Injector Complete Wire and an ER Delete Kit. We purchased the two parts and provided them to him along with a check for $300.00 for him to purchase the ER Delete Kit because I was unsure of which one he needed. We again asked for an estimate and he stated that he was unable to provide an estimate at this time. December of 2018, there was a call on our answering machine from Kevin informing us that he had bought a number of parts for the truck and installed them. He demanded we pay him over five thousand dollars for the unauthorized parts and his labor. We were surprised by this message because we had bought the parts he told us to buy and had not received any calls in the intervening time. We them went to talk to Kevin about our agreement to pass all needed parts through us for approval and so that we could purchase them ourselves. We asked him why he didn't keep our agreement and he said that he never allowed anyone else to purchase their own parts and he wasn't going to allow us. I told Kevin that what he did was illegal and he said: really I have done the same thing to... (he rattled off some names) and he always got his money. Kevin not only didn't stick to our agreement but he also never provided us with any estimate regarding the cost of the work despite multiple requests for this information before he started the work. Kevin informed us that he ordered the parts and that he installed them, and that he wanted his money. Kevin also told us that the truck isn't running right and undrivable and he's done working on it. Not having the money he wanted we went home with nothing settled. The next day Kevin called harassing me about his money he said we owed him. Not knowing what to do we asked our son if we could borrow the money for all parts and half of Kevin's wages. Our son reluctantly wrote Kevin a check then he and John took it to him. A few days later John and myself went to talk to Kevin and get a list of all the parts we paid for, which we never did receive. I. We told Kevin that he would get the rest of his money for his labor after we repaid our son the money we borrowed. Kevin then told us he was going to remove all the parts he put in the truck. I told him that he could not do that since we paid him for the unauthorized parts. He then proceeded to tell us that we were on privet property and to get out. Since Kevin said that he was done working on our truck, we hired a tow truck to pick up our truck and take it home and put in the garage. When we got there with the tow truck Kevin informed the driver that he wasn't turning the truck to a couple of "dead beats" that still owed him money. I have never felt so humiliated and embarrassed in my life. We hired an attorney to help get our truck back. The attorney sent a letter to Kevin demanding he return our truck to us. The only way Kevin would return our truck to us was that we sign an agreement that we would not bring any law suits against him for what he had done. We didn't have the money to take Kevin to court so we signed the release and on July 8, 2019 we got our truck back.
