This "resort" needs a MAJOR renovation. The steps leading to our room were filthy as well as the porch. The paint on the door frame was peeling all over. The carpet was dirty with spots, the furniture was sunk in and cushion seams torn. It was so dirty I placed the extra sheet over the couch before I would sit on it. Lighting in the bathroom was very dim. The bathroom sink drained very poorly. There was no stopper in the tub. Mold was on the baseboard under the sink. The TVs are antiques and take forever to respond to the remotes. There is no guide on the tv and several stations repeated. The breakfast was not very desirable. Never will I stay here again.

Rooms: Rooms are a little run down. Cleaning staff shortage, took forever to be able to check in. Mouse trap and the mouse both visible in my room.

Executive suites were full of mold. We all woke up feeling incredibly sick after just 10 hours in the suite. They should not be renting these spaces out, but it's apparently where they stick people who book with a third party. The grounds are beautiful and maybe the renovated rooms are nice. But the executive suites are making people ill. Several reports of bed bugs in them, though we checked and didn't find those at least. Did find dried blood on the mattress pad, other bugs along surfaces. Curly hair from a certain region on the vanity, in the shower, and on the bathroom rug. Also smelled of stale smoke. But the only allergen that sets me off is mold, so I know that was an issue. We all cleared back up within hours of leaving and being out in the fresh air of New River Gorge. Also, if you have young kids with you, the hot water tap runs hot enough to scald, so be careful letting your kids wash their hands and take showers. We were denied a refund but still had to leave. Staff was mostly friendly. Grounds were gorgeous. It's a shame about the rooms.
Rooms: If you are placed in the executive suites, beware. Dirty, unrenovated, dark, moldy, full of dead bugs, several reviews report bed bugs, which we mercifully didn't find, but I still only let everyone bring in the clothes on their backs and treated it all as if we had been exposed. If I wanted these sorts of accommodations, we would have booked at one of the local motel chains that looked like they were falling in on themselves.

We had a beautiful weekend at the resort and we enjoyed the hiking trails, especially. If you’re into nature, this is the place to be.

Peaceful, pretty, and mostly nice, expect a loud group of male golfers to annoy you at dinner.

I was there for a conference, they gave us a fantastic rate on the rooms. It’s a beautiful area.

The is a lovely location in the mountains of West Virginia. The grounds and golf course look really great. We enjoyed the conference facility for our meeting and had great service there.
My room was an "Executive Suite" and was well laid out with lots of windows and plenty of room. The "living room" section of the room was a little crowded with furniture. The bed was comfortable as well.
The bathroom was in need of updating and repairs. The tile grout was growing mold some of the metal handles were rusting. There were many tiles that were broken and floor grout had gaps that appeared to also have mold growing in it. It would be perfect after those things are remedied.

This place was Absolutely disgusting. We started at the executive suite, the room was filled with mildew smell and black mold behind the peeling off wallpaper. We pulled back the blanket in the bed there was short black hair all over the bed. & there were also some kind of dead bugs all over the floor and sticking to the peeling wallpaper (my husband says possibly termites). We ended up getting a different room in the hotel part but we still felt it wasn’t clean and we were not comfortable, we ended up trying to get a refund but the front desk lady made it seem near to impossible to get one. So ended our anniversary trip early and went home. We are currently working with the third party on our refund. Not to mention everything at this resort is rundown, smells of mildew, and not how it seems portrayed on their website.
The owner or whoever keeps responding to the bad reviews that all say the same thing, say they are looking into it or trying to improve. But if you look back at other reviews, people had the exact experience over 1 year ago. So clearly nothing is being fixed here. SAVE YOUR MONEY & TIME!!
Rooms: Not clean & smell of mildew/mold.

All was clean, but dated. The food was not fabulous, but they served salad at each meal. The amenities were not a hit- things were broken and in need of repair.
Rooms: Clean (no bugs or visible mold) but very dated and sheets were frayed.
Walkability: It’s a nice large property but some attractions are a pretty far walk. You’d need to drive.
Food and drinks: We stayed for a conference. I was thankful for a salad served at each meal as the cooked food gets a B- from me. It was basic and not flavorful. Very fatty.

Checked in for three nights. Made a reservation on line using a third party. Hotel was going to put us in the "Executive Suites". The couple we were traveling with booked directly with the Hotel and they let him know that the cheaper rate is why we would be in the Suites. The Suites have not been renovated, so we moved to the main Hotel at the higher price. While on property we asked to see the Suites and when we did we were aghast that anyone would consider placing a guest there. Mold, old worn furniture and bedding. We had one meal at their signature restaurant which the front staff raved about. I had the veal, others had the salmon and steak. Food was salty and in one case steak was under cooked and had to be sent back. I will say the lobster bisque was excellent but that was it. Vegetables were salty as was the veal. Almost sent it back but given the hour decided to just eat it. This Chief Jamison needs some serious culinary training. We didn't eat there again. Breakfast was a buffet and it certainly wouldn't live up to the term "Resort quality". Biscuits were hard as a rock and once again the bacon was salty. Potatoes were good but fruit selection left a lot to be desired. Eggs were so so. Even the bread was stale. We played golf on the Cobb course which was nice but nothing like what you would expect from a resort course. Ate at their Sport Bar and there the food was better; however, we arrived around 2pm and the place was empty except for us but the staff hadn't cleared any of the dishes from lunch. The place was a pigs stye. We returned the next day for lunch as well and there were still areas on the property that had not been cleared from the day before. Staff either doesn't care or there is very little oversight.
This is a sister property to The Greenbrier and our expectations were that it wouldn't be of the same caliber but certainly not this low. Maybe a great spot for those who aren't accustomed to true resort accommodations but not a property we would revisit.
Rooms: Main Hotel was renovated according to staff about 3 years ago. Rooms were clean but plain.
Nearby activities: Played one round. They say three courses but only one is owned by the Hotel (cobb). You have to make special arrangements to play the other two as they are owned by the HOA
Food and drinks: Would not recommend their signature restaurant for the above reasons in the review.

We went in the off season so not much was happening but the weather held so we enjoyed golf on an almost empty golf course
