My van had transmission problems for two years. I did everything I could to treat it gently, but a week before Christmas my van broke. It would only drive in reverse.
Not having enough money to pay to get the job done twice, I carefully selected General Transmission because of their documented history doing more than they were required to do and that they have stood behind their work even when they have the option not to. One reviewer was outside of the warranty period and Mark repaired at no charge anyway (check out the posting from Elizabeth on 02/08/2021).
-They did everything they said they would do (follow-up, stayed within the estimate)
- They did more than they had to do (applied a coupon that was on the website without me bringing it up
- When they heard I was making childcare arrangements to get the van they brought it to my house.
- They got my van repaired (and delivered to me) within a week.
Transmission work, unfortunately, is difficult. Mark is conscious of the financial impact and he and Cindy have worked out the best pricing they can to be fair to everyone. That includes the flat labor fee, the markup on parts and leaving it up each customer if they want to pay an extra 3% to use their credit card.
I appreciate what they did for me, and am confident the job was done well. If in the future I find there was a problem I’ll make sure to update this review.
****End of year 2024 Update****
7 months after the transmission repair the van was rattling. I troubleshot chassis issues as well as I could and reached out to Cindy. They took my van in, as soon as I could bring it, drove it for 50+ miles couldn't recreate the issue, and even took the pan off to see if they saw anything wrong inside of the transmission - without charging me a penny.
Turns out the issue was a bad fuel pump- not related to the transmission at all, but they took great care of my van and of me.
We're approaching two years of a new transmission and it works great. That even included taking a trip to Yellowstone. Thank you again Mark and Cindi for doing great work and standing behind it. If I could do it all over again, I would not hesitate to work with you again.

I have brought several vehicles to Mark for different repairs over the years. He is always very clear with his quotes and information. You can trust that everything with be done to the highest standards. The team at General are great people and a pleasure to work with. It's nice to support a family business.

I had brought my Tahoe from another shop in FW because of the service. The owners of General Transmission are husband n wife, in business for over 40 yrs! They were so focused on customer services I was so greatfull for their honesty. They called along the way to ask permission or fill me in on the progress. I really felt the love and care they have for community. They didn't want to know the name of the shop I came from which I thought was impressive. I would send my family and friends to Marc and Cindy. They treat you respectfully and don't just see numbers$$
They also own a Auto Mechanic shop in Kent for engine repairs. I will take mine there for matince and repair. The world still treats single women differently, but I definitely didn't feel that with General Transmission.

Mark and Cindy are so great. They gave us clear expectations and were very kind in all of our discussions. They even worked with us after to show us where the problem was and how to avoid it in the future.
Mark worked hard to help us replace our broken clutch and we're so grateful to be back on the road in a timely manner at a fair price. We even had a delay with our funds but Cindy helped make sure that everything ran smoothly and kept moving forward.
I found the shop here on Google and picked it based on the reviews and am so glad I did! We'll be recommending GTR to anyone with transmission issues.

I have to say I never want to have transmission problems again but if I do I will call mark first he explained every step of the way what was going on with my truck and what he would do if it was his I really appreciate the way my wife and I were treated by Mark and Cindy my daughter even got to pet their dog great people great business and more than fair on price

Wow! Mark and Cindy are the BEST!
Got a quote for a rebuild from a local shop near me. The price was so high! So, I called 20 shops from Renton to puyallup. Mark was the only one, I mean the only one willing to have a conversation and ask questions other then year, make and model. He fixed our “transmission” issue without having to drop the transmission. He knew what he was doing and wasted no time. Mark is the MAN! I will never go any where else for transmission issue if I have them. I highly recommend General Transmission! Thank you Mark!

basically got scammed for about 4k and i was forced to take my car back non running because of light rail construction , never even got receipts from owner and his wife after my car being there for months.

It was so nice to do business with a local shop where you deal with the owners. Mark was up front about everything and is very knowledgeable. He knows if you need a new transmission or just a repair.Cindy in the office was extremely helpful efficient and kind. If I ever need work done on my vehicles, Mark and Cindy get my business every time. 5 stars for General Transmission!

Initially a different transmission shop diagnosed the problem for me but couldn't complete the repair right away. That's when I found General Transmission and Mark. What I appreciated about him was that he listened and wasn't condescending like many auto shops are when you tell them what you believe the problem is. They didn't upsell and got my repair done fast. Most significantly, the price came in under what he quoted where other shops would find a way to run the bill up to the quoted cost. If you need transmission work done, trust General Transmission.

The transmission on my pickup made sounds like a bicycle in a blender. General Transmission picked it up, checked it out, tore down the transmission, replaced the rear planetary gears, overhauled the clutches, bands, and torque converter, put it all back together. Good as new! They put in long days to make sure I had my truck for the weekend. They took the time to show me exactly where the damage was and sent me home with the souvenirs for a lamp project maybe. They were kind and truthful every step of the way. I might have saved a few bucks at one of those chain shops but I have the confidence of knowing I have the original equipment and a job done right.

Mark and Garrett are an amazing team in the shop, I chose general transmission as my mechanic shop several years ago solely based on reviews and I’m glad I did. Solid, loyal and honest people with amazing talents. They gave my Ford Explorer a second chance.
