Came into the bank. The door was locked before 5 o’clock 15 minutes prior to closing and then they sent me to the drive-through which I hate going through.

Well this place puts the southern in Southern Bank. First and definitely last experience here. Oh and don't get the one star confused since Yelp does not allow zero stars. On this particular day I went by to get paperwork and a check from another place as a form of compensation I noticed the check said Southern Bank. I looked it up and what do you know? There was a Southern Bank within two miles of where I was at. In hindsight why did I not use mobile deposit with my bank? I went to this location of Southern Bank to cash the check. While at the counter I did the usual in signing the check and providing an id. There were two females behind the counter on this day (March 22nd @ 1200) who I provided the check to. One looked at the check and asked if I worked for the company where the check came from. I said no. Then she says, "Well I have never seen this business give a check to someone." Okay it is a check written to me so like many checks that come from various businesses to your customers that bank with you just cash it. I had no idea that she knew every business in the world and knew their policies and who they wrote checks to. Right in front of me she begins asking her coworker about the check and I said I am right here and this is my money so please include me in your conversation since this impacts me. She leaves without telling me why with my id and the check. Oh I see where this is going.At this point one of the females then goes to the manager of the bank and I am in ear shot of everything they are talking about concerning this check. She questions the check and actually calls the place that gave me the check to ask did they write a check to me. WTF! Then I hear her say over the phone "Well I am just trying to protect your business and verify this check." Ok so at this point I think it is fair to say that it was not about the check and it is about me. She gets in touch with a person at this place and they said they did write a check to me. Not that I was considering it but imagine if you were looking to find a new place to bank with and this was your first experience. Every person that comes through a door is a potential new client and most of all as a bank you are to offer a service and cashing a check from your bank is one of the basic jobs. Instead of excelling at a basic job this place excelled at making my blood pressure go up along with showing old ideas are still being held onto tightly. In case you are curious, yes they finally cashed the check for a person like me. BWB.

Worked with them 4 months to open up a new business checking account just for them to tell me they are unable to open a small business account for me. Rather disappointing, I wish they would’ve just said no to start with instead of wasting hundreds of dollars and lots of time. Customer service was friendly and professional, there was just a lack of communication.

If anyone is looking for a great bank to work with look no further. I was recommended by a few different friends and family members on opening an account with Southern Bank in Virginia Beach. I’m very thankful I listened and started to Bank with this Bank. They’re all truly like family and are always there when I have to ask a question or help with one of my accounts. Great job to the whole staff at Southern Bank in Virginia Beach off of Kempsville Road and Centerville Turnpike.

The ladies at this branch are extremely professional and super friendly. I feel there like family. I do a lot of phone transactions and they are always happy to do them. They are all very knowledgeable and treat there customers with total respect. Highly recommend this bank and especially the woods corner branch.

I had an emergency car issue and had to withdraw more than my account had(which I was informed at time of opening new account such occurrences happens so I elected to sign up for the privilege in case).
Well who would of ever thought I'd need it. I called the day after and explained my situation to the rep that actually helped me open the acct. She seemed understanding and explained the dead line.
So I wasn't able to refund the money in full at the 40 days deadline. So as I got able to pay something on it I went by there and sitting there with Ms. Wyatt(branch manager) in Virginia Beach office on the Old Ridge Rd shopping area(with the Wal-Mart, McD, Kelly's, etc) had to call someone for instructions on how to handle a charge off...it was there I was informed of an additional $30.00 charge off fee in addition to the $20.00 insuff find fee. Yes, banks are out to make money Once my property sells I won't be banking or deposit in my money in this bank or it's branches. Signed "naturally concerned."
