Decades ago, I read a news report about something called "The FBI and the American Legion Contact Program". At the time, it made no sense to me, but after "Operation Vigilant Eagle" was initiated, it has become clear. I have had poor experiences with service organizations since returning from Desert Storm in 1991. The performance of the DAV, VFW, AL, etc has varied between benign negligence to malignant sabotage. So having just completed my Virginia DCJS state-approved private investigator training, I decided to conduct an investigation of American Legion Post #3. I freely explained that my goal was to reach out to as many veterans as possible as the Post Service Officer, and to assist them as well as I could. I figured that would be sufficient bait, and it was. The Adjutant at the time, Bill Gore, openly chastised me, saying "Why are you wasting your time? You can't help them all". With that, I knew I was on to something interesting. The Executive Committee boomer buddies greatly disapproved of Bill spilling the beans so openly and so quickly, and he was terminated from his Adjutant position, even after years in the chair. Everything that happened after that point simply solidified my perception that anyone in a "leadership" position was most likely a VA and/or FBI asset tasked with making sure homeless and troubled veterans are given the lowest possible priority. Of course, don't take my word for it. If you are so inclined, check the rest of the reviews for Post #3. None of them will be combat veterans speaking about how the American Legion helped them. Because as I said, that's not what this American Legion post exists for. Just the opposite, in fact.

The interior and exterior are a mix of formal military and a wealthy antebellum flare.
