The Wainright is a beautiful historic building. When you enter the lobby, the elegance of the past can be seen everywhere, from the original bell to the old mail slots.I lived at the Wainwright for almost 18 months and felt safe there. There is no noise between the apartments; everyone is friendly and keeps to themselves.Liz and Britanny were super helpful throughout my stay, and maintenance issues were handled quickly. The rooftop lounge was great for watching thunderstorms. I did not park in the back lot, but the lot across the street, and I felt safe walking to my car.The Freemason District is full of historical charm. The Elizabeth River is within walking distance, and there are a lot of places to eat. I enjoyed the fireworks when the baseball team was playing at home from the roof. It is easy to find a scooter or catch the Tide. The Crysler is very close, and plenty of places to explore on foot. If I miss anything about the Wainwright, it is the rooftop lounge and the sunsets.

Very kind landlords, and I feel safe living here as the building has extensive security measures. It’s a fantastic location to live in downtown Norfolk!

Real classy place. Beautiful historic building with one of, if not the greatest and nicest property manager I've ever had. The entire leasing office has rockstars running the building and the maintenance team is second to none in the area

The building does not look anything like the pictures on the website. The apartments are extremely tiny. The roof is not safe, and neither is parking. I’m looking elsewhere and I suggest you all do too. Somebody is lying in all these five star reviews. Because this ain’t right. Smells like weed too. The building could use a deep cleaning. The music in the lobby was cool. That’s is the one star! One of the people in the leasing office was rolling, her eyes so hard I thought they were going to roll right out of her head.

Adrienne made our trip to Norfolk to tour apartments worth it. She asked all the right questions, her energy was radiant, and she never missed a beat. The properties she showed us were wonderful, but her warm and welcoming presence was a game changer.

The clubhouse and rooftop access is so cool! Great location for walking to and from restaurants and shops is a huge bonus.

Sometimes you have a great experience at a place, but the staff is underwhelming. Or the staff is great but the place is less than perfect. With the Wainwright, both the place and the staff are top notch. There’s high-grade materials throughout, so you never hear neighbors beside you or above you. (It helps that the neighbors are also very respectful). Very clean, very safe, very much worth the extra amount in rent. Best apartments downtown!

Have lived at the Wainwright for roughly a month and I have to say, the staff here is so phenomenal that they could make living in a garage enjoyable. Fortunately, the building is beautiful, very well kept by maintenance, and thus far a 10/10. Liz is an angel who goes above and beyond to ensure the satisfaction of the residents. She has handled almost every one of my concerns with professionalism and kindness. One of my favorite qualities about this apt complex are the views from both the apartment and rooftop. Would highly recommend if you're looking to rent in downtown Norfolk as its centrally located but also private enough to be away from the noise of downtown if you prefer.

I would recommend the Wainwright to anyone looking for a beautiful, upscale apartment. The apartments have very nice, modern finishes and features. It is a peaceful building as far as apartments go. The management staff is excellent. Brittany, Liz, and staff care about the residents and the building. They really make a daily effort to welcome guests and to provide residents with the best living experience possible.

I was actually excited to do Corporate Leasing at the Wainwright Downtown but was immediately shown to take my business elsewhere after a many red-flags. Viewing the apartments were really nice, and the staff seemed professional at the time. After submitting our application and information, we received an email from their manager going over their subleasing policy, in which we totally understood. We have multiple properties with Airbnb, and some Corporate Leases - so we viewed it as protocol. This is where it became a little suspicious. We then received multiple emails saying things such as, "We're making sure that you aren't doing AIRBNB because we don't allow that." At this point, we felt that they weren't familiar with Corporate Leasing at all but we still decided to move forward. The manager proceeds to send yet ANOTHER EMAIL with some of the properties that WE OWN, which was very weird and seemed a little investigative. We immediately spoke to them about their unprofessionalism, and thought to be on the same page. So we decided to brush it off, and move forward. When I went in to submit a security deposit, the first thing I was bombarded with was, "Well, we see that you had an airbnb here..."At this point, we were completely turned-off. During the entire process, the staff came off as condescending, and it makes me believe that it was racially motivated. We have never had this issue with any property, for they understand what a Corporate Lease process looks like. Unfortunately, we decided not to move forward with The Wainwright and want to enlighten others to make sure that they know what they're getting into. The unnecessary hassling, profiling, and unprofessionalism was entirely too much to bare.

The place is great but the prices exploded in 3 years. October 2019, the Frances, a 346 Sq. ft. studio, was available for 980$. June 2022, less than 3 years later, it starts at 1237$. A 26% rise. Same applies to "The Thompson", a 667 Sq. Ft. One Bedroom : went from 1406$ to 1800$, a 28 % rise. Almost a yearly 8% rise during 3 consecutive years. Probably this is the market that want that but it is still a lot and concerning for people that do not own their place.

I've lived in many different places but these folks are the best. Really friendly during the application process so I thought it would change once moved in. Nope, Brittney and Liz do such an amazing job. They really go above and beyond and make this place feel more like home. Maintenance is top notch; Jay is always very friendly and quick to address any problems that come up.Update: Just moved out and still have nothing but praises for this place. Top notch management and the home was great while I was there.

The best renting experience I've had. Brittany and Liz were so wonderful and fun to talk to. They really cared how everything in our apartment was going and were quick to send maintenance for anything we needed. The maintenence staff were always super happy and helpful and we really didn't need maintenance for anything major. Hopefully they're getting a raise because I've never had a better experience with a leasing office and maintenence! Not to mention... the great location and beautiful view from our apartment, the gym, and roof. If we could've stayed for a third lease we would have.

The staff is incredibly friendly! I have only been a visitor at this location but every time I visits my friend she raves about how much she loves it!
