Visited 11/2/24 I was in the area visiting the other side of the old prison the liberty crest apartments. I'm thankful Fairfax county purchase the Lorton prison property and turned it into the art center. It was free and able to view different type of artwork. The even offer art classes. There is a cafe on site. I didn't like the viewing of the cell blocks in the Lucy Burns museum because it cost $5. Paying to go inside the cell blocks to sit on the beds, touch the sink the toilet or the bars is insane. Also incredibly insensitive for the people who were forced to live in these conditions because of their negative past.

As a workhouse dabbler I attended events throughout the entire year.
*The theatre is a hidden gem with quite a bit of up and coming pre professional actors. Check out the show options, they always seem to try one "kid" show a year.
*Art galleries events are fun to attend once a year. Pick one that sounds like your personality.
*They are always expanding, growing, and changing. Which can cause growing pains. But the venue is historical, and budget is based on a lot of different factors.
*If they still have the farmers market it was fantastic, and the popcorn guy was delicious.

We went here for the Twisted tails of terror Halloween event. It was so much fun and we'll put together. Worth every penny. I highly recommend.

I did not find this trail scary and felt it could have been done a lot better! And another side note - there was a worker that kept making fun of me in a hurtful way and I thought that was super rude. Especially when she kept calling me the girl “with the big forehead” and little did she know I was in bed all week sick from a health condition and have been losing my hair lately and pulled myself together to try to get out and have the haunted house cheer me up. Just thought that was super uncalled for!

2 stars don't waste your time reading the reviews they made me think this was scary......IT IS NOT they gave n effort but overall the worst one I've been to even with my kids. It was lengthy yes that was a good thing but, couldn't see where we were walking not worth the $75 for three. We also drove an hour to get here and we'll have to drive an hour back if you live out of town it's not worth coming to. The place overall is a great place to come to look at all the artwork but don't waste your money coming here for the Halloween Walk unless you're a local even then it's not worth it. Waiting till next week to go to darkwood. Will not return again, the scare of the end was okay

The Workhouse Arts Center is a hidden gem! It brings so much to the community-- classes, events, historic preservation, and the opportunity to pursue many art studios for FREE. With the opening of a small Bunnyman Brewing Cafe, it's truly a great place to go for a variety of interests. In every studio l've entered, l've been met with kindness and, often times, free demos.
The greatest part of the Workhouse, in my opinion, is the pottery studio. If you are looking for a place to learn ceramics, this is it. I have been throwing pots for 10+ years, off and on, at different studios while moving around the country and their studio is unparalleled in many ways. The community is welcoming and prioritizing opportunities for education. Their instructors are talented and the studio provides just about everything you could want to use, which is a great value. For military members, they offer a free class per semester, free workshops in various topics and a chance at a competitive residency program. I have learned more at that location than anywhere else and could not be more thankful that I found it. Thank you, Workhouse Arts for all you do and for the amazing pottery studio!

Attempted to come to a class I signed up online for my family and myself. It was our last day together before sending them to the airport and we waited for 30 min in front of a locked building and asked the front receptionist for information that even she did not know. Eventually, she got the director and then found out that the instructor is sick and attempted to let his participants know, but didn’t? And the director knew but was too busy to notify. We then were told someone was supposed to wait at the building to let people know it was cancelled, but of course that didn’t happen either. A simple email would have been fine because we wasted an hour and our gas for lack of communication. I understand things happen and it was a free class, but my kids were extremely disappointed and confused about why they couldn’t do the last activity together as a family before they had to leave. It was my first time doing a class here, and the impression I got was how unorganized it was and mixed feelings about trying it again.

A wonderful theater venue in the DMV! Only frustration is the lack of signage on campus, which made it hard to find the theater. Other than that, extremely cool space!

Disappointing, especially for $30/each. May be fine for a high schooler but very basic. More creativity is needed for the roles of the staff along the path.
