We’ve been to GarthNewel many times, usually over Thanksgiving and Memorial weekend. It’s a five hour drive each way, but well worth the time and effort. The music is exceptionally fine. From the resident quartet to the guest artists, everyone is very talented, professionals and approachable. We’ve made many friends over the years, all folks who appreciate chamber music.
As if that weren’t enough, being warmly welcomed by the director, staff and board members makes us feel at home in this lovely mountain retreat.
And to top it off, the executive chef and his team prepare world class dinners after many of the concerts. The meals are creative and delicious. Dining gives us a chance to enjoy excellent dinners, and get to meet and know other guests and musicians. Garth Newel is our favorite home away from home.

Lovely place to experience world class music. The musicians of the quartet are not only lovely people but incredible musicians. It is worth the trip to a beautiful country town.

The Garth Newel Music Center is a unique destination for chamber music lovers nestled in the beautiful Allegheny Mountain foothills. Its bucolic 114-acre campus is located in Hot Springs, Virginia, just three miles down the road from the famous Omni Homestead resort. As a non-profit organization established 50 years ago, the Center welcomes guests year-round. A resident professional strings-and-piano quartet performs over 50 concerts each year in Herter Hall, a converted riding arena. After each concert, guests sit down with the musicians to enjoy a multi-course gourmet dinner prepared by the resident chef. Overnight accommodations are available at Garth Newel’s historic Manor House or at the many nearby inns and B&Bs. My husband and I discovered this hidden gem in 2015 and have returned every year since. Translated from Welsh, “Garth Newel” means “new home.” Experience the joy of a concert and dinner in this exquisite setting, and you will find (as we have) that Garth Newel is your new musical home.

What a jewel in our midst!! Chamber music in a beautiful setting, along with a delicious meal following. An incredibly talented piano quintet with a standing ovation performance. The musical selections were filled with emotional reactions that were moving in their effect and thoroughly enjoyable. Your seat awaits.
