I purchased a remanufactured 3116 motor for my boat in February of 2023 and have put over a 1000 hours on it with no problems. Jacobs Diesel always takes the time to answer any questions I have about my motors.

Jacob’s Diesel is truly exceptional! From the moment I called, the professionalism and expertise of their team were evident. The facility is clean, organized, and equipped with the latest technology.
The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and goes above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction. They took the time to explain the issues with my Caterpillar 330C L and provided transparent, fair pricing. The quality of their work is top-notch, and my Cat runs better than ever.
I highly recommend Jacob’s Diesel for anyone in need of reliable, expert diesel service. Five stars!

Ronnie Atkinson with Fish Hook Charters, North Myrtle Beach, SC. I currently own 3 boats with diesel engines. It is funny how I read some of these reviews on here about Doug, I currently live 5 hours away from Doug/Jacobs Diesel repair. There is no local marine diesel shop in the Myrtle Beach area for Cummins or CATS. Closest places are Charleston, SC or Wilmington, NC., and it is like pulling teeth to get anyone to rebuild or come to town to check your engines. I learned along time ago you have to do things yourself to stay in this business without a lot of down time. I have had Mr. Doug rebuild my Cummins engines before, even though he is 5 hours away. He has always done a great job and has always answered my calls to answer any questions I had. He has a very nice machine shop that the dealers around here don't even have. I would highly recommend his services to anyone. I wouldn't hesitate to get in my truck in the middle of the night to take my engines to him to rebuild; just can't find service like that around here. He has always been honest and prices well.

Buyers be ware, and heaven forbid you have an issue.
I purchased a motor from Mr Jacobs after talking extensively with him about his product and service. He is very knowledgeable about these motors, but at the end of the day he is little more than a con artist.
My Jacobs quoted my $18,500 plus core deposit. I promptly paid Mr. Jacobs in full, minus the core deposit because I would be bringing my core with me at time of pickup. A timeline was established, and deliver by date set. That time period came and went with excuse and lie after excuse and lie. Maybe you heard about his wife, or his son going to Iraq, or maybe that he was at the VA……
It was made clear that I was going to move to the hill, remove my old motor and deliver it to him as a core when the motor he was building was completed. After all the excuses we finally had an it’ll be ready by Friday agreement. I hauled out the boat, pulled my motor, and proceeded to deliver it to Mr. Jacobs as agreed (though being many weeks behind the orginal schedule.
When I showed up, my motor still wasn’t ready. I had to stay and help him complete the motor, and make the first fire up. An entire day of wrenching by the two of us for a motor that was “ready”.
Once installed, motor was run 150 trouble free hours. My first issue was with the oil cooler. What a mess. Tore down the cooler, replaced gaskets at instruction of Mr. Jacobs, and ran. Oil again in the cooler. It was removed a 2nd time and I had to drive it to Mr Jacobs shop from the Obx to be warrantied out. At that time I was told it failed and he didn’t know why. Later conversation he would proceed to tell it hadn’t failed.
Seemingly fixed, a few short trips later it was winter time with little use.
At spring fire up. Cleaning and maintenance, it was discovered that there was combustion gas in the coolant chamber, pushing coolant out. Immediately reported findings to Mr Jacobs. Asked him what he wanted me to do, as he was the builder. The Turbo, after cooler and exhaust manifolds were removed , cleaned and pressure tested. All good there. Reported to Mr. Jacobs and asked where to go next. I told him I believed it was the head or head gasket. With no clear instruction from Mr Jacobs, I proceeded to remove the head. After several days, calls and text. There was no communication. I proceeded to order a head gasket set for $265. As the head was removed, it was found that there was a gasket failure. Pictures of the gasket were sent to Mr Jacobs, of the gasket, heat tabs, motors. Head and block. After still not hearing from him, I threw away the gas gaskets, and sent him an invoice for the exact amount of the gasket set. He refuses to pay it because I hadn’t mailed him the bad gasket.
After clean up, and reinstall. All seemed well with my motor. One island trip (50 miles round trip) and a couple sandbar days, we went for the big trip tuna fishing. (105 miles one way Va to Nc) somewhere along that trip the oil cooler again failed. We’re coming against a holiday weekend and the boat is 90 mins from the house now in NC. With many trips planned, and people coming in town, i called Mr Jacobs and asked for a cooler and gasket set be sent priority. He refused to do so. I offered my credit card number as security that I would either send him the failed parts or return at my cost the unneeded parts. Neither was satisfactory to Mr Jacobs. He was advised that to get parts in time, I had to have a solution by 1pm. With no direction or solution, at 1:25 I pulled the trigger on Cat coolers and gaskets to ensure I could run the trips I have booked. I sent a long message explaining that he could either ship me parts or pay my invoice (along with the one for head gaskets). He finally called and said he was at “the VA” again and that he would not be paying for any parts and that if I wanted him to give me replacement parts, I had to drive the failed p

Please beware! Jacob’s diesel does not stand by their products. We received our first rebuilt engine in 2021. Within 15 hours the engine blew up. The Company will try and say we changed parts etc, but that is not true. A couple hoses were changed to a higher marine grade. He would not warranty his engine! Got a second engine via insurance from Jacob's after months of run arounds (anything from shipping delays, Covid, sickness, you name it). It is leaking out of almost every gasket and has injector issues. The Company stated on numerous occasions they were going to come fix the engine (even telling us they booked a flight) but again, we constantly got the run around. We are cutting our losses and having someone else work on the engine this winter. Do yourself a favor and run away from Jacobs diesel!

Doug did a great job building me a reman CAT 3116 for my boat. He was always available to answer questions, and stands behind the engines he builds. Every business was slowed down by supply chain and quality issues, and my engine reman process was not exempt from that pain. But Doug always made it right, and I'm extremely pleased with the outcome of Doug's work. He knows his stuff, and stands behind his work. I will definitely be working with Doug again, but this time, on the preventative maintenance side of my other Cat engine!

Doug did an excellent job of completing a reman of a CAT 3116 350HP marine engine for me. The engine runs beautifully! While the completion was a little later than expected, Doug would always answer my calls and provide updates - a minor delay was much less important than taking the time and completing it properly. I did have questions post completion and again, Doug would always answer my calls. I would definitely recommend using Doug and would certainly use him again when I need his services.

Bought two engines from Jacob's diesel/ Virginia diesel.Engine #1 arrived late. I didn't believe the excuses to why it was late. Too many excuses. Delivered with wrong bell housing, wrong valve cover plate, had no way to add or check oil, and some other small issues. After dropping oil pan and putting on my old bell housing and taking care of putting several parts from my old motor into my new the engine it actually ran good. The engine does have oil leaks, had to replace some gaskets due to me having to replace parts on the fly. I am a commercial operation and don't have time for this kind of mistake from an engine builder. I now have a rear main seal leak as well. He told me from the beginning all I needed to put on the new engine is a starter, alternator, and water pump. Well, that wasn't the case with my motor. I give this job a 3*. Late and not ready to run as I was told it would be.Engine #2Well, I never received engine #2. After being lied to for three months, I was being told that the engine would be ready next week for two of the three months. I am a commercial operation, I don't have time to be lied to and drag the job on. After three months Doug actually sent me my whole deposit back. This is not what I wanted. I wanted a rebuilt cat 3126 that my business was really relying on. Doug also sent me a new bell housing, and electrical harness from his first engine that was messed up. I give this engine a 1*.Overall I give a 2* because I received my deposit back.Doug is full of excuses, too many. His favorite saying is "next week", don't believe it. I won't do business with Doug again.

Doug was amazing to say the least. I purchased a remanufactured 3126 which was delivered to my company Badfish Charters, LLC in Port Aransas Texas. The engine was installed by a 3rd party and was not done correctly causing a failure. Doug went out of his way to personally drive me a new long block from Virginia to Texas and make sure that I had everything that I needed to get up and running again. Due to time constraints Doug was not able to finalize the install on that trip. He did however fly back down to Texas 2 weeks later and finished the engine install and signed off on his work. I am thoroughly please with his services and will most definitely be using him again in the off season for another 3126 rebuild and any engine maintenance we may need.

I f I could give zero stars I would. He gave me bad information on upgrading my 3126 marine motors from 350 to 420 ho. I bought the Turbos from him. It took 4 months to get them.when I called back for the injectors he told me I was gonna blow the motors and stopped taking my calls after I had spent 12k on all new running gear. I have since found other sources to accomplish my goals. Stay Away.. Sorry Doug you can't hide buddy.
