It's a good gym, though UVa could do better.1. Back a few years when I petitioned the university to build this (and they did), there was a plan to add rope climbing capabilities. Some ropes have become available, but no autobelay (the autobelay was supposedly unsafe, which makes no sense given that human error is mostly accountable for injuries in gyms, the short height of these specific walls, and the enormous liability of other sports the U wallows in gladly, like football). So come people, give some autobelays, give more space for top roping and lead climbing (outside, doesn't have to be the same facility even). There are no rope climbing gyms in our area and there won't be given the high cost of space in town and the height requirements for a proper gym.2. Stop using setters from competing nearby gyms. This is a conflict of interest.3. The director is doing a bad job at interacting with the Uva climbing community. Please be a better organizer, communicator (emails etc) to leverage the potential of a very active thriving climbing community on Grounds (students as well as faculty/staff).

No auto belay system everything's just bouldering but really cool nonetheless!

Favorite gym on grounds. Just missing some equipment that would make it perfect (leg press, chest supported row). Go here for barbell and dumble work. Plenty of power racks. Also has a prowler sled.

Love the new climbing gym! Not tons of treadmills but if you want to lift or climb it’s great.
