Stopped shopping here after multiple instances of the price at register ringing up higher than sticker price. Cashier even tried to turn the item over so I wouldn't notice. Literally textbook fr@ud

It was expensive, messy, and not a good experience. Shop survive because there is not much competition.

This post is the response from the review by MIC Amplus... I am thankful for your business but would you to research a bit about price hike. It is not only Indian Bazar that has to increases the price due to many factors including suppliers increasing the prices but producers and also increasing the prices. I understand you completely because at the end of the day customer gets the worst. Indian Bazar tries to do the best they can, but if you don't think you can get your price's worth, I suggest you not visiting the store anymore. You may not even know how hard it is to find the suppliers who would want to carry all the items that we do.You also may not know the existence of this store. IT was for community so our people can find the items they are used to. Present owner has been running the store for 13 years and only reason they even took the store was because previous owners were about to close it down due to health reason and Charlottesville would not have had any Indian Grocery Store at that time. Yes there are others now but they have not been here when no one was.I thank you for your business and hope you can come and talk about how hard it is to run small store in today's economy.

I’ve been visiting this place for months now & I’m disappointed by the amount of price gouging these people engage in. Their products are many times expired — especially check masalas, canned items, pickles, grains. Labeled prices are not what they charge you on payment — a packet of jeera was labeled $5.29 (already gouged in my opinion) but billed as $6.99. Why? They make up answers on the spot. And many items — including fresh vegetables — don’t have labeled prices at all, so you take an item up to purchase and realize some 10 Oz/ 250 gms okra is $7.00?The Asian Market on Emmett or C’ville Oriental both have cumin and coriander seeds & whole spices priced at half the rates as this store. They have some Asian vegetables identical to Indian ones, including Thai Birds’ Eye chillies — and all of them restock fresh veggies on Fridays so I would recommend going to an Asian store instead of this one for more general items. But India Bazaar is probably better stocked than the other desi store for essentials like dals, ghee, curd, curry leaves, so I still need this place — hence this anonymous review lol. But my grocery bill here has been rising every month without my consumption not changing. I wish they were honest people because the times have been tough for all of us but I really don’t like being fleeced like this.

Good one for the Indian grocery in Charlottesville. Pretty much they have everything here. This will be my go to place for Indian groceries as I just moved here from a different state. For now I am happy with this place. I wish they had desi yogurt and more fresh vegetables.

This store is jam packed with Indian staples, bulk items, spices, fresh produce, and frozen items. I walked in for the first time, and walked out with mango chutney, tea, frozen stuff for lunch, etc. the store owner is super friendly, and will go back soon. And bulk flour. I've never seen so much flour and jasmine rice in my life.

Good but some of the items are expired. Doesn’t taste or smell good. Be careful before you take out.

Convenient for basic items, however check the expiration dates on everything and if it doesn't have one, consider it expired. Items are also overpriced.
