What a wonderful time we had with Steve as our guide. It was our first time fly fishing and he was very patient and kind with us teaching us how to do it. Would highly recommend anyone of any level to let him take you out!!!!

Steve, his family and staff are great. They know this area really well and what works and what doesn't. The shop only carries quality gear. I still use stuff I've bought here 15 years ago. It's always the first stop when my family needs something for the outdoors.

Middlebury Mountaineer is a wonderful store -- great selection, top quality, expert advice. I love how enthusiastic they are -- "I tried this water shoe and it was so fantastic I just had to offer them!" -- and how accurate their advice is. (Yes, I can say after a month of use, they are fantastic water shoes!) I could say the same about other things I've bought there, big and small. I'm still getting compliments on a gorgeous raincoat I got there, and they are our go-to place for things like hiking clothes and water bottles and carry bags etc. etc.

This is an amazing store, great selection and quality products, but the best part is how friendly they are. The entire staff is willing to help and answer questions and the owner goes above and beyond. Can't say enough great things about the Mountaineer.

I love this store! The owner and staff are super friendly and always very knowledgeable. Everything we've gotten there is very high quality, albeit expensive and they have a huge range of gear.

I rented a pair of snowshoes this past Saturday. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable - providing me with first-hand experience of the hike - Mount Abraham. Adjusting the equipment needed based on the trail conditions. It was an excellent experience and very reasonable price. Thank you.
