When I was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, TX back in 2000, I would visit El Vasquero for my boots, hat, etc.. As I recall, the owners are a husband and wife Team.When I was getting boots, the husband worked with me for at least an hour to break them in. He rubbed the inside of the boot with a wet washcloth, had me but the boots back on and walk around the store for a bit, then checked the fit. Though I currently have boots that are much more expensive than that pair, I can't say that I have ever had a pair that fit as nicely.I ordered a duster from him. When it came in a few weeks later, he sent it back because the quality wasn't up to his standard. He ordered a more expensive one and didn't charge me the difference.Though I live in South Carolina now, I still recommend El Vasquero to anyone that will be in the area.

we were there looking for hat cleaning and boots adjustment service and the gentleman there starts to giving is recommendations about health, healthy food and diagnosis, even he is not a physician. He also consult me and I was just acompany my husband. and at the end the boot and the hat service was overpriced. they give you services that we don't request... sorry but I don't like it.

I ordered a pair of $300 boots in person at the shop and never received them upon returning home. Tried calling multiple times but couldn't communicate with owner, they said they would call back and never did. Calling it a loss at this point.

I found the most comfortable boots ever, had them custom fitted by the owner. He told me pick any style you want , but for me had to be a low heel which was fine . He was sooo gracious and helpful. I will be back when I come from Woodland CA. for vacation.

I visited from California with my boyfriend in hopes of buying our first pair of boots from here since it's in downtown San Antonio AND it supposed to have great reviews. We met Michael and I went in first for my official fitting. I told him my desire for an R-toe shoe as well as informed him that I would need a wide calf boot. He explained that "I need to stop worrying, and to trust him". At first, I thought he was trying to help, and was a bit aggressive but I didn't mind. I tried one boot, and it did not fit. It didn't even go past my calf. I told him and he raIsed his voice, "I told you I'm trying to help. Why can't you trust me?!" After that, I was not having it. How are you supposed to help me with that attitude? Not only was he demeaning in speaking to me, he also said I had "foot issues" and that I would need to "exercise my ankles". I don't have a problem with telling me I don't have equal distribution weight on my footing, that's normal. However, I don't appreciate being humiliated out loud in front of other customers. He did not make me feel welcome at all. Not sure if he has anything against women, maybe Asian women, but he treated my Caucasian boyfriend with respect. We both did NOT buy our boots here, we went to Cavendars instead and bought a pair that both FIT and was worth the price.

Wouldn't let him get a pair of boots for my pet!!! He's taken money from us and we've yet to get our hat!!! Which by the way we ordered on March 5th still waiting called him can't understand one word he's saying if u can't communicate with your customers then get someone who can!!!

Lovely little shop to visit while near the Alamo. Owner is extremely helpful, checked our feet for areas of concern, gave wonderful advice. My husband got insoles which have made a big difference so far. I bought beautiful, high quality boots which fit perfectly. Highly recommend a visit here for anyone looking for boots with a perfect fit.
