This Hass to be the worst hospital to take any family member to. I have been here since 9 AM this morning with my husband for surgery that was scheduled at 10:45 he went into surgery at 4:30 got out at 8:30 here it is 10 o’clock. No one has spoke to me. No one has came out to me and I still have not been able to see my husband since coming out of the operating room and into the recovery room a lady by the name Stephanie as the head charge nurse would not do anything besides call the residence to see why nobody spoke to me and his nurse Ira she was rude because of the fact is I tried to explain how my husband will react, but I’m still being held here waiting to see my husband This is the only hospital that I know that will allow a family member to come in and go through something alone without anyone there for familiarity or anything

Go to Roper if you want to have good care! I considered calling and reporting this hospital to the Joint Commission! The ER room B10 was FILTHY! There was food on the ground, plaster all over the ground, and tops of ointment containers. The nursing student left HUGE bruises all over her to just draw blood. My mother went home with a NEEDLE in her arm that I had to remove that was just for a blood draw. The doctors were even surprised after 4 hours went by and she still could get an x-ray! This hospital needs to be inspected and reported to the Joint Commission! There level of care is extremely poor. I used to work in multiple hospitals and I saw them break multiple rules. They are all about is being a teaching hospital and only care about their students treating the patients as science experiments who I am sure their contracts with the schools give them a ton of revenue and that as why they make sure the students get to practice on all the patients! Avoid this hospital at all costs. Tell the ambulance to take you to Roper if you want to get good care!

Got into a bad car accident 12/10/22. After a few scans, they decided I didn’t need surgery but wanted me to stay for observation. I declined IV treatment with fentanyl for pain relief and asked if could have uncomfortable IV removed since they couldn’t draw blood from it, was denied saying that I had to keep it in for hospital policy. After 3 days spent, was released, a few weeks later, I tried to schedule a follow up appointment and they booked it for 7/7/23, was told the price for appointment beforehand, after waiting 6 months for appointment which had no assistance at appointment, I paid the amount before visit. 2 months later, they added another $84 to bill, when asked, they said that the waiver I signed was like a blank check and I would be liable for any future charges to my account.

Like all hospitals there are good nurses and bad ones. The quality of medicine here is better than anywhere else in SC. The food for the patient varies and seems good. Options for visitors to eat in the cafeteria are diverse, with different options every day.

I recently had a hysterectomy and hernia repair done at MUSC. The hysterectomy was performed by Dr. Graybill and I think it went fairly well, though I am only a little over 6 weeks postop. My hospital stay was short, but amazing, and 90% of the nursing staff who cared for me was awesome. My only gripe about my few days in the hospital was that one tech was far too loud and talkative when I spent the first night in the recovery room. Once I was moved to my own room, my care was outstanding. Shout out to Maddie, one of the nurses who went out of her way to see that I was comfortable. Since leaving the hospital, my checkups have gone pretty well and I have been able to have them at a location in Murrels Inlet with one of Dr. Graybill's team ob surgeons, Dr. Kohler. He has been very thorough and caring. I have, however, had complications with the hernia repair done by Dr. Leon. Nurse Marie Gardner worked diligently to get me in to see Dr.Leon again and I had to have the area drained 4 weeks postop. Two weeks later, at 6 weeks postop, the fluid has returned and the area is very sore and red. I have called to make an appointment with Dr. Leon and I am waiting to see if I can be seen soon to figure out where this fluid is coming from and what needs to be done to correct this issue. As of now, the earliest I can be seen is Sept 11th and that seems like too long to wait to address my complication.

First Stay in june:I was treated very kindly by staff even when I was having mental issues not treating some at times kindly back. Don't see how they could have a 2 start review when the staff put 5 star effort all 3 times been there in each section of the 9th floor. People expect unreasonable times and would complain constantly about silly things. Even with this crazy requests coming left and right as buzzers went off ever few seconds they tried the best they could. Most places are much worse. Just saying be reasonable this not hotel its a understaffed hospital and some things take priority. I do wish they followed through with promises a bit more. Had few times made a promise then passed me off to next shift change to wait for hours to get things done. But to be honest got my self in those situations to start with behavioral issues so can't blame anyone but myself ending up that way to start with. But I wish when they say they do something they do it not toss you under the buss to next staff turn over and take off instead leaving you with new people lost as to why and how things happened to start with.Second stay in july: had to kill a star. Can't complain about the stay. Few nurses seemed bit over stressed. Some of doctors seemed to not follow through or communicate well with others on treatment team at times. Which made things not ideal. Didn't have any complaints like most seem to have. Lots of staff that where very friendly and kind actually. I personally am a pain in arsh at times. I have no problems admitting it. To be honest I was still treated well even in those moments. Sure there is waits at time like people mentioned This is a hospital not a 5 star hotel. People in 5 rooms at once hitting help button alarms going off. Old people trying to leap out of bed half naked running for the door while the bed alarm screams away lol... true story!People with health issues where that alarm going off in there rooms, it's bit more down on the priority list then your water bottle request at times. Sucks yes but like I said it's hospital.I do have to say though they really screwed up few things about my personal information being given to people not on my contact list which kind of ticks me off. Information was filed and presented to them. Yet Didn't bother to follow it. What good is a legal, notarized and filed by deed of clerks office document of revocation directive added to poa papers if no one bothers to read it in your file. That is kind of a huge screw up to say the least.Do I think it was done intentionally no. But it did and shouldn't have for any reason.I am the type of person hates hospitals. They make me nervous full of anxiety and will to run but naked like that old lady having a rough time tried to out the door lol. But they all didn't make me feel like I was in that type of situation. Let me stay in my room as i requested in a way to keep me where needed to be so could get in and out and home quickest way possible without any issues as I tend to have behavioral issues at times. Not afraid to admit it we all have are screwed up parts about are selves. But the point is there was no issues and it went well as a result of them taking the time to listen to me.I hope many of interesting staff I meet at my stay follow through with there goals and such since many where kind enough chat while sat there for hours in a bed doing nothing but waiting it seemed at times. Many where very interesting people all with different goals and paths they where going for. Very interesting stay to say the least In that regard. But anyhow I suck writing stuff. I suck at being person at times to care for. If anyone I was there with reads this thanks! For you all complaining about dumb things in reviews I can point you in dire tion of few places that are like state prison compaired to here for you next place to review.I can think of 2 staff that where real aholes as well some reviews may hit on the money!

My mom started going to MUSC for pancreatic cancer a year ago. She had long 10 year struggle taking care of my dad which we lost him two years ago. She had never had to go to the doctor for anything before. She was scared and frustrated. She did three months of chemo and it took a huge toll on her body. They decided to do a Whipple surgery in Nov. She started healing but in February something changed. My mom who never complains about pain was in so much we went to the ER multiple times the next two months to be told it’s the surgery your healing, it’s a blood clot here is some medicine, it’s ulcers here’s some medicine, and the best of all you’re not giving your body time to heal and the cancer is not back. They kept sending her to to the ER for pain with no solution. One doctor even rolled his eyes and huffed when my mom came in frustrated after feeling tired and getting the strength to drive downtown. After two months, they said she had a blockage and they would “power wash” it. Not even a week later, my mom was worse. We came in and they were gonna do the procedure again and also said the cancer was back. The attitude and lack of empathy for my mom was horrendous. We were told we should write down notes of every appointment to make sure we kept up with the visits. Doctor Price her primary doctor was the ONLY one I saw give her understanding and sympathy and the push to find out what the issue was. I do want to say there was one ER doctor and one other doctor that gave some sympathy but the others brushed it off. After months of frustration my mom wanted to just be home. When I called the doctor to ask why we were told the cancer wasn’t back but it was never checked, there was not a good reason. That pancreatic cancer is not the best one and the likely hood of beating it was slim. No one checked it for two months. I lost my mom on April 29th this year and I still think back on this experience with anger and a lot of sadnesss. I took my mom there for every appointment thinking they would do right by her and trying to convince her to keep the faith.

Well today makes 12 days my mom being in the hospital. We have encountered some really great nurses but we have also encountered not some great nurses. My mom now has delirium. I’ve asked several times for the nurses to have the dr call me but nothing. I am 2 hours away and still have to work but for the past 2 days I’ve been up here. I called for the nurse cause she dropped her water on the floor and it’s been about 30 minutes and the water is still sitting on the floor. The other thing is that they left a needle in here that was in her tray of food, I moved it. This is getting ridiculous and someone is about to hear all about it.

I've grown up around hospitals and the staff off nurses , doctors , and staff in general have been outstanding ! I stand the chance of losing my left foot due to an automobile accident and everyone involved here at the hospital has made me feel as though I'm family . The concern and kindness shown by everyone involved has been more then impressive! No body wants to be in a hospital but if you have to be in one this is the place to be ! Thank you to ALL the staff here on the 10th floor ! Love you all !

My mom is currently at this hospital after a failed double kidney transplant and multiple botched surgeries. When they decided to remove the kidneys they cut into her colon and caused her to go into septic shock. Now after all of this she has had part of her intestines removed and will now require and colostomy bag for the rest of her life, as well as dealing with the trauma of 10+ surgeries back to back when she was only there to receive a kidney transplant. None of the nurses care enough to tell immediate family members what is going on, many who are not local to Charleston and can only call to see what is happening. Through this whole 4 month ordeal I have only encountered one nurse who was actually willing to talk to us and explain what was happening in a way that we understood. Trying to get information over the phone, even with the code word, is utterly impossible and they’ll keep you on hold for hours even if I’m just calling to ask if my mom is even alive. My aunt just received a call from my mother on her cell phone screaming and in pain begging her to call the hospital to get someone into her room because no one comes when she presses the nurse call button. When my aunt called the hospital to get someone in her room she was told “they’ll get to it when they can” this whole situation is a nightmare and the staff at this hospital are horrible and don’t care about your wellbeing even when they are entirely at fault.

This hospital is extremely concerning as far as HIPPA violations. I "coincidentally" received multiple friend requests while I was there from nurses who were currently working on another floor. I felt like this was odd and had to be a violation of something? At the very least unprofessional and down right CREEPY. I stopped my cancer treatments because of it, why are these girls looking me up on social media at work while I am there? I am skeptical about paying my bill because something very odd is going on there, and have requested a thorough itemized receipt, but every employee I have talked to is unhelpful, unprofessional and weird. Do whatever you can to go to East Cooper or Roper, trust me, don't get your basic rights violated here.

I want to thank a nurse in the Neuropathy wing. Christina was wonderful to us while my husband was having a treatment done. She was pleasant, compassionate, helpful and professional. It made the experience easier for both of us.
