Purple ape is truly my family’s most memorable experience at Misquamicut Beach! We go on vacation every year and the highlight of our trip is going to purple ape to go jet skiing, take our yearly family picture in the famous chair, and of course purchase a hermit crab. If you are visiting Misquamicut Beach, purple ape is a must stop!

Bought a sweatshirt with a broken zipper didn’t know it was till I wanted to wear it. Went back from CT, to exchange it, tags still on it, obviously ? couldn’t wear it as the zipper wouldn’t open. Didn’t want refund, just another sweatshirt. Owner refused.

People are nice Tom from Purple Ape talked with us yesterday, gave us directions and picked us up and drove us to town by the train because of the lack of Ubers/lyfts. I was taken aback about how nice people in Rhode Island are that someone would even offer to drive you. Be nice to others for Tom pay it forward! Good people are out there !!!

My boyfriend and I were staying at a resort nearby and he was looking forward to renting a jet ski. Long story short, we tried it and I was terrified as well as nauseous! The staff was super cool about it and adjusted the price since we ( nope, just me) had to cut our time short. The store has a wo derful variety of gifts at nearly half the price compared to other shops just a few miles away. Highly recommend

My fiance and I are staying in the area and decided to rent a jet ski at The Purple Ape for an hour. At first I was a little nervous but after Tom and Mike explained everything I felt more comfortable. We had a BLAST. Soooo much fun!!! We also purchased some clothes and souvenirs a few days prior to the jet skis and the staff was super friendly. We will definitely be coming back next year! Thank you for the great memories!

business has no safety concerns. Me and my friends (all under 18) went paddle boarding this afternoon and were let in without any safety lessons after we revealed that we had never been before. Then, 2 hours later (1 hour after the allotted time had ended) three of us were still out- screaming for help, while the other two friends were asking the two men at the table for help. Three other patrons came to help them as much as they could, and returned to shore to tell the workers who still didn’t care that three girls were screaming for help. Once another friend got to shore, she asked the workers over and over again to help but they said they had been watching the whole time and that the girls could walk to shore (it was over 7ft deep)- another hour later- they finally answered the calls and came out to jet-ski me back. When we arrived at shore, he turned to the friend and told her rudely to be quiet and that I was laughing the whole time, I was hyperventilating. PLEASE do not go here!
I had been screaming for help for over an hour with my sister.

These nice reviews are all fake. The staff at this facility were completely awful to me and my friends and do not care about the well being of their customers. They do not attach any harnesses to you and if you get stuck in a current you are likely to drown. We had to beg the staff to go save my friends who had been stuck out there an hour over our allotted time. DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Cute local spot for small trinkets, beach necessities, and even snacks! The only reason for the three star rating is due to the lack of educational resources available if you want to buy a hermit crab, and besides that all of their shells are painted. The paint clearly has chemicals and over time chips off and they eat the flakes, essentially poisoning themselves.
