Beware of booking an event with the La Mirada VFW. Get EVERYTHING in writing!! They make promises and then do not want to keep them or even hold up their end of the contract they provide. I booked a party with them in March of 2023 for January 2024. At the time I was assured they do not double book for the same day and that I would be able to start setting up for my party at noon, possibly the night before if it is not booked. In December 2023, I was again told that I could start setting up for my party at noon and I paid my balance in full as required by the contract. On January 4, 2024, I was again told I could set up for my party starting at noon. But then later that day I was informed that I would not be able to set up for my party until 4:00 because they had booked the room for the same day until 2:00. I was very concerned that I would not have enough time considering that my party starts at 6:00 and the contract states that I would be responsible to for setting up tables and chairs. I explained my perspective and was able to negotiate that I could set up at 2:00, meeting in the middle. Later the same day, I received another phone call from a man who began our conversation with him stating that I was not going to tell him how to run the event room and that he was not going to work with someone who was going to nit pick everything. I began to interrupt him to ask for his name and title and he called me rude for interrupting him. He finally told me his name, Chris, and I explained what had been promised by the event coordinator. Where he responded that he was unaware of the promises made but that it didn't change anything. I replied that the contract I signed stated that I would have hours to set up and we compromised on having set up time be 3:00 and that he would have staff set up tables and chairs. After we reached the compromise, he told me that my guest would have to pay for their alcohol and drinks. That seemed very odd to me being that it is a bar and of course we expected to pay for drinks. I asked him why he was bringing the alcohol up and he said that he felt the need to remind me that the party can be shut down at any time for any reason if any of my guests broke any of their rules. I again asked why he felt the need to say this, and he stated that he would not hesitate to end my party. Of course, I felt threatened by these statements and felt the need to move my party to a new venue. I asked for a refund of most of my money saying that I did not expect the deposit back. The VFW refused to refund me anything and now we will be setting this matter in smalls claims court. I wanted to share my experience with you to caution against potential difficulties when booking events at La Mirada VFW. It is advisable to thoroughly clarify terms, get everything in writing, and be cautious of the promises made by their staff.

Very nice to hang out with friends and chat with other branches of service! Very nice people that work there. Good prices on adult beverages!

Terrible atmosphere. Most people aren't veterans, and if you are not from the area, you definitely don't feel welcome! Most patrons are not even aware of what the place represents or what it's there for. Go elsewhere if you wanna better place to spend your time.

It is ok place, not super nice. I only go there to do karaoke. Otherwise it is very pretty boring place.

Went to a LA DWP retirement party last weekend and the place was real Kool.the bartender at the hall was extremely nice and made nice drinks.also walked into the bar the people and bartender was really friendly.looking forward to going back soon
