Dr. Velese has provided quality care to my rescue dog which was in need of extensive dental care. He listens to my concerns and follows through with excellent recommendations and treatment. The entire staff is courteous, friendly and presents a professional manner.

My rat had a medical emergency: my regular vet was out of town and all emergency vets nearby were quoting me anywhere from $500-$1000 for her care. I called everywhere and nobody was willing to take her, until by a whim we called Animal Hospital of Mount Pocono. They not only took exotics, but they were able to squeeze in my girl for a next day appointment. Everyone was extremely friendly and treated my rat with care. They got her the antibiotics she needed and she’s gone from being lethargic and sickly to eating, drinking, and socializing again. I’m so thankful they were able to take her in on such short notice, especially since we were new patients. For her visit, antibiotics, additional meds, and lab tests, it came to $220. If you’re a rat owner, you know how expensive their care can be. I found this to be extremely reasonable, especially for such short notice. I’m so grateful they took great care of my baby. I’ll be bringing my other rats here in the future.

I visited Mount Pocono four times from December to July. My parrot wasn’t feeling well and Dr. Valese recommended a diet change.
My bird was stable for some time but then took a downturn in July when he suddenly stopped flying. Dr. Valese looked at him again and again said there was no medical issue, but a “husbandry” (care) issue.
After getting x-rays as part of a second opinion with a board-certified avian vet, an aggressive bone tumor was found on his wing. I was told it’s likely been there for some time.
The fact that Dr. Valese repeatedly pinned all the symptoms on diet seemed careless and unfair. Not once, even when my bird stopped flying, did he suggest x-rays or recommend me to a board-certified avian vet. (I didn’t realize then that while Dr. Valese is a member of the Association of Avian Vets, this does not mean board-certified.) He instead implied each time that everything that could be done to improve the situation was under my control, and that it was as simple as a diet change and keeping him warm enough, and that I just wasn’t doing it.
It seemed his main concern was for me to pay my bill and leave. Now I’m working to address this tumor and wondering if things wouldn’t be as bad if it was identified earlier. I’m not saying that diet was definitely never an issue, but birds don’t suddenly stop flying because of that, which the current vet confirmed for me. I’m frustrated with myself for not realizing the difference in certifications, but it’s the doctor’s responsibility to point to the best direction of care, and that simply wasn’t done in my experience.
Owners also shouldn’t have to pay extra to be in the office with their pet. If curbside is being done to allow for more visits, then there should either be less appointments or another vet added to the practice.
I will say that the staff is lovely, and Kelly and Brittany were wonderful whenever I chatted with them.
*To the response: I am understanding that he is not an avian specialist. What was frustrating and disappointing was that everything was repeatedly pinned to diet regardless.

You know something 1 I have never heard of a vet that doesn’t allow you in with your pet ?family?your baby ?? I could understand if we were still in covid lock down but I feel so awful? for recommending my best friend to go there because her tiny dog was not acting right not eat or drinking and so I called because she (BF)was so broken hearted on how her dog was acting and the dog breathing was slow as well I spoke to a woman and I thought she was nice and caring I explained everything I even made a 3 way call so she can talk to the dog mom and she priced us at $69 for the exam because the dog was small now there was a new dr there and when he called my best friend he had such compassionate heart and told my best friend everything he was going to do but my best friend said but wait how much is it going to be because all she had was her bill money which was $229.00 and he said don’t worry about it I’ll take that and help this little guy BUT WAIT !!!!
A MINUTE A LADY CALLED AND SAID YEAH I AM SO SORRY HE IS NEW HERE AND WE CANNOT HELP YOU FOR THAT AMOUNT FOR THAT AMOUNT I CAN SEND YOU HOME WITH MEDICINE TO MAKE HIM COMFORTABLE UNTIL HE PASSES AWAY WHO WHO FREAKING SAYS THAT TO A WOMAN WHO IS CRYING HER HEART OUT IN THE PARKING LOT AND NOT THAT THEY NEW MY BEST FRIEND HAD HEART SURGERY A FEW DAYS BEFORE I AM SORRY AND MAY THE LORD FORGIVE ME I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE THERE YOU MIGHT OF HELP YOUR OWN BABY BEFORE SENDING THEM THERE I AM SORRY BUT THEY NEED TO CHANGE THERE WAYS AND CHANGE THERE BIO BECAUSE CARING THEY ARE NOT THAT PLACE NEED NEW OWNERS AND RECEPTIONISTS WITH A HEART♥️ but the dog did past away 1 week later in my best friends lap ?

Please be careful. My pets initial appt was due to blood in urine. Which was handled appropriately. After getting labs back Dr suggested a more thorough study which I could not afford. As my dog is older it was decided to give a full course of antibiotic treatment. This treatment was not successful and other symptoms which presented called to make an appointment to end suffering of pet. No appointment was available and Dr I initially saw was not there So they wanted to charge another assessment fee on top of the fee to end the suffering of my pet as the dr there did mot see me I told them my dog was already assessed and treatment didn’t work and at this time would like to end his pain and suffering. They said they had no appointments but if I wanted to come in for an emergent visit they would charge me 249 to bring dog. I was so offended by there lack of compassion and extortion of money for one’s animal end of suffering. Really you don’t have the time for 88. But can find it for 249. Wow. Where is your integrity and compassion

I recently called this vet clinic to inquire about their services and was shocked by their prices. Even compared to Manhattan rates, their fees are exorbitantly high. I had hoped to find a reliable and affordable place for my pet’s care, but these prices are simply unreasonable. It’s disappointing to see a clinic in our area charging so much more than even those in one of the most expensive cities in the world. I would not recommend this clinic

I had to have my chihuahua Hank put down. Everyone there was so kind and it made the process a lot easier. I called in the morning and they had me in within an hour without the outrageous emergency fees other places wanted to charge. It made me feel good that I gave Hank the best life here and they gave him a peaceful send off. I will forever be grateful for the way they treated both me and my best friend. I highly recommend.

The folks here are so lovely and they really take the time to understand what is going on with your pet. They are not our usual vet, as we live in NY, but while we were in the Poconos they cared for our pup as if he was a regular patient of their clinic. The doctor is so patient and took the time to advise us on small ways we can improve our pet's health, even though it was not part of the reason that we were there. Highly recommend!

Short version: They were extremely expensive the vet was condescending and they missed what was wrong with my cat. They missed my cat's ear infections. I wouldn't have minded the cost if they had helped my cat. They do not allow you inside they take your pet and your credit card and talk to you over the phoneThey stayed after a scheduled surgery to see my cat quoted around $500 came to over $770 (charged me for an after-hour visit) They charged separate fees for the visit, the after-hours fee, the staff's time, the exam, the tests and collecting the urine to run the tests. At 1st they thought it was a "stroke-like event" I had to buy 2 pills 20 and 40-day supply (he took them for 3) He had to return for a 2nd follow-up up I was quoted $79 over the phone it was over $300 that appt they charged me for more tests, the exam, staff time and food. They explained it was not a stroke-like event (The vet also corrected me over the 2st appt when I said my cat had a stroke to the other person in the car "stroke-like event") At this appt they said it was his Kidneys and put him on a special diet (they would not approve the chew order online for that they had to mail me a paper RX)When my cat was still not improving I took him to another vet who found the ear infection they missed (The treatment was done the same day the whole thing cost less than after hour fee). My cat is now getting better. They are claiming there was no ear infection. I blocked out my info but added photos of the bills to prove I was seen there.
