Do NOT take your car here!!! My son took his vehicle to Cain Automotive to get inspected. (His car isn't perfect BUT it's in decent shape.) They called him and said it would cost AT least $2800 worth of repairs in order to pass inspection, maybe more. Something seemed off so my son told them not to do any of the repairs and would be in to pick the car up later.
When he picked the car up I went in the office with him. Spread out across the entire counter were estimates for repairs of the vehicles they'd worked on that day (probably about 8 invoices/estimates); including my son's. His estimate listed that he needed an entire exhaust system and catalytic converter, all the motor mounts and some other odds and ends.
As we waited for someone to come to the desk I happened to be able to read some of the other bills/estimates laying on the counter. I couldn't help but notice that three other vehicle estimates/invoices also listed that catalytic converter and exhaust needed replaced along with motor mounts. These are expensive items to replace and can make or brake an inspection. Four customers needed the exact same expensive thing repaired to pass inspection on the same day? Seems shady.
Also, the cost of every part on my son's vehicle estimate was inflated. I do realize they are a business and are looking to make a profit BUT these items were marked up three times higher than the purchase price. Labor charges were inflated as well. As an example, a headlight bulb needed changed-they listed $47 labor for that. In addition to the inflated charges for labor and parts, there is a charge at the bottom of the page for $115.55 for "job supplies." Isn't that what parts are?
I got to thinking...used catalytic converters bring in a lot of money. What better way to make money than to 3 x upcharged people for a new catalytic converter whether they need it or not then charge them to remove the old one THEN make even more money "scrapping" the ones you took out??!!
I'm curious how many of their customers "need" a new catalytic converter to pass inspection.
These are tough times. People work hard for their money. We need our cars to get to work to make that money. Pennsylvania requires that we get our cars inspected. We should not have to worry about getting our bank accounts emptied out by greedy inspection stations .
I'll say it again-there is something shady at Cain Automotive. Find another garage. We did.

Cain automotive was quick and efficient with getting our inspection done. Very friendly staff and we just moved to the area and all of our car maintenance will be done through Cain automotive. I'm happy to find a place to take my vehicle we're I won't be nickel and dimed or my time isn't valued.

Requested a quote on some work that needed done on my vehicle. They said they were going to call me, but never did. Waited about 2 weeks due to holidays, stopped in to check on the quote. All to find out, they didn't work up a price. Was told they were going to call again but big shocker didn't receive anything.
