Paid a retainer fee 9 months ago to handle amended return. I have had to call and email every week to find out whats going on. Sometimes will go MONTHS before ever hearing back from anyone there. I would not trust this place to handle any of my affairs going forward

BEWARE. BEWARE. BEWARE. They charge almost $1,000 to do simple tax work and offer mediocre services. It's robbery! Go somewhere else. ANYWHERE else! I have friends and family throughout the US with multiple LLCs and they laughed when I told them how much I pay. This place is a complete joke.

I stopped in for a quick, simple question regarding my w2 an ira. Was told "I won't answer that question and I can't talk to you until 4/18 after the tax filing deadline". I understand they are busy and can't help non clients but the tone of the response would not make me want to be a client!

I'm just not sure if the negative issues I encountered were due to lack of staff communication, or an issue with my individual tax preparer. Maybe both. My taxes are relatively simple - single female, renter, basic 401k, etc. But I had just moved here from NY in the summer of 2020, and did not want to do anything incorrectly. I chose PNW based on Yelp reviews & convenience. They requested the documents that they needed be dropped off - everything was done over the phone due to COVID. Cool, no problem. The day of my phone consult, I get a call from the staff asking about the documents required, saying they didn't have them. I had dropped them off as requested prior to my phone consult date. My stomach dropped - I'm thinking my main tax copies are gone. They called me back later saying they had located them. Phew ... I then did a brief phone call with my preparer, Ryan. It took about 10 mins & the only sticky topic was how to address the fact that I didn't get any stimulus when I should have. He was nice & seemed knowledgeable, so I felt good about everything up to this point. I'm told to let him know when I'm ready for him to submit everything & it will be done right then via e-sign. Now, to be fair - they do inform you that the cost of your taxes being done is based on the NUMBER of forms they have to fill out. You're to look at their website & figure out what your total will be. Unfortunately for me, I was personally not sure what I should anticipate since I had both NY & OR forms. I will say that I was completely freaking floored when I was charged close to $600. I had my 2019 & 2018 taxes professionally done by a CPA when in NY - both times less than $200. Moving forward - It took me 3 separate phone calls over the course of a couple of weeks to get the message through that I was ready to submit the taxes & ready to pay. Each time I was told it would happen by whomever answered the phone, & that I would get an email confirmation for e-sign & CC payment. Each time I waited ....waited ... called back ... waited. Each time I had to re-explain the situation to whomever answered the phone. Finally after the 3rd call, this got done. I e-sign & put the (what feels like outlandish) preparation fee on my credit card. I was then told I needed to pick up my completed tax booklet & forms from the office & that I would get a call when it had arrived within the next few days. Two weeks later I call them, as nobody had called me ... am told it's there ... so I go to sign & pick them up. Again, lack of communication. Next, I get my refund & it's a little under $500 of what my preparer had told me I would get back. I called his office 4 separate times, leaving a message each time, before I finally got to talk with my preparer to ask what had happened. I'm told he doesn't have a way to know that because he can't access my tax info. I contact the IRS like he tells me to & get a letter about them adjusting my refund. I was told to let him know what the IRS says & to send him a copy of any info I get from them. I emailed him a copy & wait 2 weeks. No response. I then start calling the office. Again, 3 separate messages left with no call or email back. Seriously, guys?!! Today, I called again & explained the situation - my preparer wasn't in the office. BUT ... I FINALLY had the luck of speaking with a lady who actually took initiative, looked into my file, looked at the letter the IRS sent me about the adjustment, AND got back to me right away. She explained what had happened and actually seemed like she cared and wanted to help me. So - thank you Julia T - I almost considered giving 2 stars because of you. To summarize, I work in a professional service industry. It would never, EVER be acceptable to ignore my clientele after they had paid for my service. If I have to stay hours past close to answer my client emails & phone calls, I do it. Never in my wildest dreams could I feel okay ignoring mes

I have used this company several times and thought they were honest, until this year when I got a bill from 2017 from the IRS I was mislead about an electric vehicle and had three years of penalties I asked them to take some responsibility and never got a call back very upset

I started using Pacific Northwest Tax Service when I moved to the Portland area in 2012. They have always been spot on with in all aspects. I will be moving out of state soon, but plan to continue to use them for my taxes if possible!

Did my 2017 taxes here and almost over paid by $45000 dollars. Turns out these guys will not deduct your expenses unless you go out of the way to tell them - sounds like the definition of talent to me! Went down the street to a different CPA, and although I paid an extra $1000 dollars, I paid significantly less because the staff had asked the right questions. Needless to say, I refused to pay their "book keeping" charges.Fast forward two years later, I decide to give them another chance due to the favorable prices, since my business had been shut down and there was no mistake the book keeping would turn a loss. Turns out, that was a huge mistake, they raised their prices to the same as the CPA - PAID UP FRONT! In summary, if you would like to have the equivalent of a lobotomized tax agent do your taxes go no further. You'll find them by the dozens here!

4/12/18 just wasted 45 minutes with G. A. at the Cornell office. After perusing through our tax information, he asks, "How much did H&R Block charge you last year?" When I told him $400, he said, "Yeah, well, it's going to cost you $800 here. Too many forms to fill out at $12 a form." I told him that the return last year didn't have very many forms to fill out. At home now I count a total of three forms (schedule B, schedule D, schedule E). Not even sure if all those would be needed this year! He replied, "Sorry. Maybe you should go back to H&R Block and they can just bring up your information from last year." How dumb does he think I am. I could tell that he just didn't want to take the time to figure out the forms (as he was sighing while he looked through them). In addition, he first asked how much we paid before he pulled that $800 number out of his behind! I'm sure the company will respond with a lie about how it was more difficult than that, but it took H&R no more than 30 minutes and for a 90 year old woman on social security. According to professional tax guy, Gary, there were going to be 47 forms to fill out. Maybe he should have given it to another tax preparer before telling us to go back to H&R Block. response to April: I DID review the price schedule. It specifically states $263 for 1040 with Sch B. HE QUOTED ME $800. You can't lie your way out of him giving me an inflated quote. Are you telling me that he was scamming us and letting us know that we were going to have to have 47 forms completed? I never said Gary was rude or mean. I just said that it was obvious he didn't want to do the return. Perhaps someone else should have given us a better quote. He lied about it and you are covering for that. No one said he wasn't a GOOD PERSON. Hello!

My experience with Sandee has been excellent. She teaches other tax preparers. She is completely on top of the tax situation. Unfortunately, my tax prep appointment was not in the system when I arrived. At a particularly stressful time, I had little time to reschedule. I was told that my appt. was the only one lost in their computer transition. After calling and making the appt right after the first of the year, this was very disappointing. The other possible reason I was given is that Sandee put the appt in her personal calendar, instead of booking with the desk. Beware.

I am so lucky and thankful to have stumbled upon PNW Tax Service and in particular Amber Finnegan, who was (and remains) an absolute rockstar! She held my hand throughout what I always assumed would be a grueling and strenuous process (I.E. filing as a 1099 and owing money to the IRS). In layman terms she assisted me and was a wealth of knowledge, responding to my emails and calls in timely fashion. Amber is also a wonderfully friendly and genuine person, and I couldn't have asked for more. With her help I was able to acquire the First Time Penalty Abatement and saved over $2,000 in fees. I would recommend Amber to anyone.

Long story (as) short (as I can)... I'm a foreign national who moved to the US last year as an intercompany specialist. I have foreign income, property and bank accounts abroad - It sounds eccentric, but it's normal things to most people who have moved from one place to another. To me the US tax system becomes a huge, messy hairball. If you're foreign you know exactly what I mean. If you're American you probably won't understand, but to illustrate: I used to be able to file my taxes via text message in my home country (since we let magic grey boxes called computers compile and precalculate things for us...) If we have questions, the tax authority provides free consultations. This was my first US tax filing. At first, I went to H&R Block. Complete waste of time. After two meetings @2hrs each, one being with their "Master Tax Advisor", they still hadn't indicated they had the first clue where to even start. Then I did what I should have done from the start and contacted April at PNW Tax, who came to my rescue! After 10 minutes with April I had already come 9 minutes further than I did in four hours at H&RB (who ended up giving me incorrect and probably unlawful recommendations). It took us a while to get through it all, but April was awesome the whole way and most importantly, I felt like I was in good hands with someone who truly was skilled at their job. If you have any kind of complexity in your tax situation, please go ahead and trust PNW Tax to solve it for you.

Baruch Valenzuela picked up my case midway through and helped me fight the IRS away from a $14,000 overcharge. The services he and his staff provided were rapidly, efficient, and he worked with me to make sure that he aligned with my working schedule and needs. They went above and beyond, accepting payment for an amended return and then continuing to follow up with the IRS for 6 months after until it was all solved. 10/10 would use again.
