My experience with the Ashland YMCA is mostly good. Upfront people are very helpful especially Haley! the YMCA kind of has a corporate feel to it for being a non-profit. Would like to see them find a solution the the constant problems with the Pool and Hot Tub equipment and area. Seems a result of an aging infrastructure. Very frustrating experience for the price!

I have multiple disabilities that I am living with, both physical and mental. Swimming is the only activity I can do regularly (mostly treading water calmly) due to deformities in my legs and feet. For a year and a few months, I had fairly positive experiences using the pool for therapy during the therapeutic swim time slots. There were instances where those with disabilities were completely ignored by others, including the staff. After a few e-mails that went from firm to enraged, and a special summer meeting with two staff members, at the beginning of November the therapeutic swim was taken away. This is discrimination, plain and simple. If I wasn't fighting for my life, like some of the others who took this action very hard and to the heart, I would get a lawyer and fight. But this is not in my current capabilities. It is a shame that some folks dealing with issues like arthritis, surgery recovery, PTSD, fibromyalgia, and other challenging disabilities are not respected by a corporation that claims to have community in mind.I will never step foot in this facility again.

I am writing to bring to your attention an unfortunate incident that occurred at your facility involving one of your staff members and my husband. My husband, who has a disability that can sometimes make communication challenging, was visiting your facility for the first time. He found himself lost and approached the staff member in question for assistance. Unfortunately, the interaction escalated into a verbal altercation. I believe this could have been avoided with more understanding and patience from the staff member. It's important to note that my husband's loudness during conversation is a result of his handicap, and it often misleads people to perceive him as aggressive, which was not his intention. He felt that his concerns were not being heard, which added to the frustration.Furthermore, I found the subsequent actions of the staff member concerning. She sought out my husband with the intent to have him removed from the premises, which we perceived as both unprofessional and unnecessary. In an attempt to document this incident due to the staff member's refusal to identify herself, I began filming the interaction. This action seemed to exacerbate the situation, leading to an assault against me, which I found unwarranted and distressing. The YMCA is known for its inclusive and welcoming environment, and this experience stands in stark contrast to that reputation. It is disheartening to encounter such a situation in a community space that promotes respect and understanding.I am bringing this matter to your attention not only to address the specific incident but also to highlight the need for staff training in handling similar situations, especially involving individuals with disabilities. Proper communication and conflict resolution skills are essential in creating a safe and welcoming environment for all.I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this matter further with you or the appropriate person in charge. My goal is to ensure that such incidents are handled more appropriately in the future and to contribute to the YMCA’s ongoing efforts to provide a positive experience for all its members.Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.

Local parents needing childcare are in luck because Ashland Y has the best staff with wonderful programs at such reasonable rates. During the years my son needed care for after school, summer camp etc, Keysha Porter was our main contact and I can’t say enough great things about her.We moved here in the midst of pandemic and my son joined Ashland Y when the schools reopened for their in-person classes. I can’t imagine how day to day operations must have shifted in such unimaginable times, but Keysha always welcomed us with open arms and made us feel home like we’re part of the community in this town that was new to us. She was always accommodating and was able to answer any questions. Keysha is the heart and soul of their youth programs and parents have nothing to worry while she runs their programs. I’m still thankful to this date that someone as dedicating as her was closely working with children (and with their parents) while my son needed care. I owe a deep gratitude to our Y for recruiting and retaining a remarkable staff like Keysha because it made a great impact in my son’s life (especially transitioning from school to school at such sensitive time) as well as mine.

If you are a swimmer find somewhere else to go this is the absolute worst place on earth for swimmers. I wanted to cancel my membership after a week but they made me stay for 3 months when I signed up I WAS NOT TOLD THIS NOR DO THEY SHOW YOU WHAT YOURE SIGNING. Once again do not go here if you use it for the pool they never ever have the lap lanes open when they’re supposed to be. Wasted 180 dollars on this place.
