I created an Zipcar account in Nov. 2023 and booked an SUV in Downtown Toronto 2 weeks in advance. My booking was unexpectedly cancelled and I rebooked with a diferrent SUV a week later - I wasn't bothered since the SUV was similar in size and the location remained the same. BUT on the day of the pickup, the SUV wasn't there. I called customer service to find that the SUV was being repaired and ZipCar failed to provide a substitute. ZipCar even had the gall to upsell me on a booking for the next day at a higher price I was supposed to pay! I immediately cancelled my account because I wasted an entire day and a $25 application fee for nothing.

It's a rip-off. They didn't approve my application for an unclear reason and didn't refund my money. Still trying to get my money back.

this is a scam. they charge you for a application fee which is not refundable. it should be mentioned clearly instead of just in the t&c.

They dont have any details on what the cancellation fee is. When I went to cancel it said I'd get a refund. Then they went ahead and charged me the full amount. I've also been given a van with a broken door by them.

The page to join is very welcoming but does not provide crucial information, such as eligibility criteria. I started the process of creating the account, no alerts on or info on eligibility, just to find out later they rejected my application and charged me for that. Of course, in the email informing the rejection they provide a link to the eligibility criteria. Too late, can't ask the refund. Very sketchy!

Zipcar will charge you even for creating an account with and for rejecting the application, I have seen other car share services who clearly say the fees will be refunded once application is rejected, however Zipcar is playing scam.

zipcar knowingly left a parked car with the ???? car alarm ???? beeping nonstop through saturday night and all through sunday unattended. the car alarm has disrupted our whole neighbourhood over 24 hours.numerous residents have complained directly to zipcar (who have said someone will come and take care of it but they haven’t)…bylaw officers, 311 etc can’t do anything and zipcar still can’t find 1 staff member available on the weekend to come and disarm the car.can’t imagine renting from them and their lack of support.

They have a car across the street from my condo that has been honking for over 48 hours now -- I contacted them and they said there is nothing they can do and that we will have to suffer through the honking.Terrible. Simply Unacceptable.

They get one star, since there was no way to give them zero. Some of the worst customer service that I've ever seen. I've spoken with dozens of people about zip, and they've all had a horrible experience with them.

This is by far the worst company I've ever dealt with. They refuse to take accountability for their employees mistakes, and do not reimburse for their misrepresentation. They continually drag out conversations and go in circles just to tell you they won't help you and make it impossible to speak to someone higher up when they don't listen. They hangup when you insist, or try to redirect them back to the main issue you're inquiring about. They refuse to refund when there is proof it is their mistake. They have left me stranded with a car that they remotely turned off, waiting for 2 hours on the phone for someone to pick up. They have continued to charge me monthly for their service after requesting it be cancelled and refusing to refund for all of it due to not having proof of my request and still refuse after forwarding the email with proof. Half the cars I've booked have been dirty/smelly or have some sort of issue causing it to be unsafe to drive. There have been issues where their designated parking spots are parked in and I've had to call to tell them and find out where to park so I'm not late and charged another hour and was still charged when I confirmed with the person on the phone multiple times that I wouldn't be. *TORONTO LOCATIONS!*

The staff on the phone are fine, but I didn't receive the service I paid for and the company is unwilling to reimburse me the $35 processing fee for my cancelled membership. I had booked a vehicle, and because my membership was still new, I had to rely on the app to access the vehicle instead of the members' card. However, the vehicle was parked in an underground garage that blocked all cell phone and internet service, thereby making the app unusable. I had to scramble to book a taxi to make it to my destination. While I understand that the company website refers to this fee as non-refundable, in this case, the fee should be reimbursed to the customer. I did not simply change my mind regarding the booking nor did I lack access to a smart phone. Rather, I could not access the car through no fault of my own because of scenario that is likely quite common: the vehicle is parked in an underground garage that has no internet access. I had paid for this service in good faith and was told that I could still access the car without the membership card but this was not the case. I politely explained this on the phone and through an online chat, but they would absolutely not budge.

My spouse subscribed to Zip car in Feb 2022. Used it once during that month, but left the subscription on inadvertently as we were caught up in a long drawn family medical issue. Did not recognize the recurring charges on the credit card as it came up garbled on the CC statement ( Sep 20, 2022 SEP-I-Z-35969529 Etobicoke, ON $13.55). We never realized it was a Zipcar recurring subscription billing. Tried to call my credit card to cancel this but they said the card will have to be cancelled and replaced - this was a bummer as there were other regular payments on the cards. ( We should have disputed the charge and cancelled in hindsight!)In December 2022 the CC the recurring billing showed up as ZipCar. (Jan 30, 2023 Zipcar Premium Protect Etobicoke $13.55)Finally called Zipcar yesterday and cancelled. Requested a refund for the months not used as their billing name was incorrectly provided on the statement. Obviously they did not agree citing their 'POLICY'. They did give a couple of months refund. But I paid $150 in services not used!! I told them about their mistake in 'camouflaged' charges on my card but their 'POLICY' overrode all my arguments (Like a commandment - "Thou shall not return monies to customer once in our bank account") . Lessons learned :- use one card to subscribe to all your services and auto payments. - check if the vendor's name shows up correctly and check how to unsubscribe. - credit cards will not help you with unsubscribing. Even if you cancel your card and replace, most probably the charge will continue on your new card ( please check).IMO, several subscription services that we do not need are gnawing away at your money in small mouse size bites. Subscribers be aware and take action ......

Steer clear, find something else. I had a membership for years, and almost every car we've rented either reeked of cigarette smoke or was covered in pet hair. They have policies against those, but don't seem to enforce them ever.Once, the car I rented had a completely flat tire. Plans ruined. The last straw was when I dropped of a rental 12 minutes late, after an over 12 hour rental, in an empty deserted train parking lot, with no one standing around waiting for the car or anything. And this was on the night of a big winter storm, so roads were perilous, and I still I was only 12 minutes late. I automatically charged a $50 "late fee". I regret taking the 10 minutes to fill up the car even when the tank was still 3/4, and a few moments to clean up the inside. No more membership. So long Zipcar.

Sign up don't show any application fee but they charge immediately 28.25 CAD and reject your application later saying you've temporary G2 license, not acceptable. Now -1. They will not refund application fee even though I've not used their service even once2. They won't let you update your profile for the physical card3. They won't let you reapply ever - as if now I will after this horrible experience!!0/10 Rating.
