On Canada Day, I was walking along Sparks Street, checking it out after not having being in this area for a good decade, at least. I saw Canada Post. Two instances of it. Practically across from each other. Did I need to book an eye test immediately? Maybe. I needed to dig into this weirdness some more. We can't have a confused tourist, let alone confused me.59 Sparks Street is this Yelp listing. When you look at the building, it has Post Office above the main entrance, with two lion statues on either side of it. It looked like there were other businesses in this building, but nothing that screamed post office.I had to do a bit of digging. This location was known as Ottawa Postal Station B. It's considered a cultural heritage site as of September 2018.I can't tell what this building's purpose is now. What I do know is that the current full-service Canada Post across the street at 58 Sparks Street replaces services from 59 Sparks Street. This post office at 58 Sparks Street was formerly the Ottawa Electric Building. It has been around since 1926 by Albert Ewan, an architect for the Ottawa Electric Company. This company was both an electrical utility company. It also ran electric streetcars back in the day. Fascinating! So, looking at the reviews for this listing, my guess is that everyone is commenting on the services back in 2019 and earlier at the old post office. For current Canada Post services, such as mailing a parcel and renting a mailbox, you want to go across the street to the Canada Post with the Ottawa Electric Building name above the red Canada Post sign.(255)

If you are here to mail some postcards to your friends and family, highly recommend to ask for their special postmark, which is the parliament hill!!

They moved from the old buidling (59), across the street, to new smaller office (58) but service remains great!

I have no idea why this place has received past bad reviews. The person who gave me service might have been impersonal, but he was knowledgeable and efficient. There was no wait to drop off my package. The place is small but quite clean. They even have a change room to try on clothing received via package.

It actually opes at 9.00, but no one changed the hours of operation online.

Went in around 4pm today and wanted to make an In Person payment deposit into my account using a QR code and was shown terrible service. Lady had very much a ‘manager’ attitude and exploded in my face when I showed her my QR code to deposit. She was a late- middle aged blonde lady with bangs and had absolutely no customer service at all to even help. She claimed QR code’s were only for packages and laughed when I told her I wanted to deposit money. It was highly unprofessional of her to not even hear me out. Other Canada Posts are acquainted with QR Codes by now and I would have loved to talk her through the steps other locations take but her lack of customer skills completely blew through that. As a person who also works in customer service everyday, I honestly can’t believe how awful she was at taking care of this dilemma.

Staff is pleasant but always try to over charge you. I have gone there numerous times and always quoted way more than another post office near by.

Yet again Canada Post is completely useless. No excuses for this. Zero customer service. Guess it pays to have a monopoly over most of the shipping in Canada.
