the loveliest bookstore owned by the loveliest man !
this store is full of beautiful classics in editions i doubt you could find elsewhere, and even then, definitely not for as low a price. i love the feeling of finding little pieces of newspaper clippings and notes written by the last owner. they make every visit of mine a wonderful and exciting experience.
during my last visit, i spoke with Adam Alfsen and learned that his parents had originally owned the bookstore and were both incredibly talented artists like himself. the family's artworks are displayed throughout the interior. it gives me such a newfound appreciation for the already warm atmosphere.
i was gifted a book written by Alfsen himself, titled Lost Prophets of the Agora (on Plato & Scripture), and although it's not my usual reading, it was undoubtedly a very thorough and thought-provoking one.
i have found some books from here that i will treasure forever. i truly find it to be such a privilege to have such a bookstore so accessible to me. thank you, adam !

Go there and find a book that makes you laugh or cry, teaches you a little better about the world, and perhaps yourself.
I had a great time chatting with the owner, Mr. Adam Alfen, and reading his book 'Lost Prophets of the Agora.' It really got me thinking!
As far as I know, this is the sole authentic English bookstore in Markham, apart from possibly the only two Chinese books there authored by myself, which I earnestly requested Mr. Alfen to include in his collection.

I've been visiting Adam Alfsen's books for years. He has an extensive collection of books, and outstanding paintings by him and his family. Adam is an author of a book on Plato's Republic and is a Swedenborg enthusiast. He's currently working on another book about the history of Christianity and the Greeks. He's a musician and sings in a local choir. Alfsen books is well worth the visit.
