I was told to try this store because my cat is a problem eater and the manager knew a lot about cats. I had a disappointing experience with her because she is misinformed about many things, opinionated and becomes rude by constantly interrupting and talking over you if you disagree with her about anything or state facts that she is unaware of.
The store has a variety of foods except that prices for certain foods are high compared to others. 1 star for the manager and 3 for the store contents.
This is what she claimed about pet food:
1) "All pet foods are now made in Canada." Huh? All one has to do is check the labels to verify this as many of our pet foods are imported directly from the US.
2) She claimed that "cat foods like Almo Nature are nutritionally balanced" until I pointed out that in that brand the only balanced ones are the cans that have “Complete” on the can (on many of their cans it states "supplemental feeding only"). So how many people has she misled by recommending this mostly supplemental food as nutritionally adequate?
3) "Our pet foods are regulated and do not contain undesirable items like meat by-products." Do I wish that were true! US pet food regulations are basically non-existent and Canadian regulations are hopelessly inadequate and allow carcinogens, PFAS, and potential hormone disruptors (BPA in can linings, phthalates in soft plastic), preservatives, meat by-products and rendered meat into pet food. Some premium food companies claim BPA free but it cannot be verified because they are not required by law to divulge that information. For proof, I have copied text in the form of questions directly from the Pet Food Association of Canada website, aligned with the government and AAFCO:
"What are by-products?" – under this question they are allowed, claimed safe and healthy
"What are rendered meals and are they safe?" – again allowed, claimed safe and healthy
"Why are preservatives used in pet food and can they harm my pet?" - allowed and claimed safe
"What are canned pet food containers made from? Is it safe?" - it states plastic resin allowed and claimed safe (plastic resin contains BPA)
All of these undesirable, potentially health damaging substances are allowed in pet food and are very concerning. My poor cat who I had to put down last August at 21 yrs old, developed hyperthyroidism at 17 I believe from BPA because regulations claim they are safe. The dangers of BPA are well documented. Preservatives are also a great concern and I do not even have to get into what rendered meals and meat-by-products contain.
I am disappointed in her misinformation so will not be returning.
Pictures of her cats revealed they were obese and she said she has not had a cat live past 12. It is not uncommon for cats to reach 20 years of age so she is not caring for her cats adequately and is overfeeding them. 22 lbs? Come on, only main coons and savannahs normally get that heavy.
Now I am going to debunk her misinformation about cannabis. Cannabis is more harmful than alcohol because it: exacerbates schizophrenia in those prone genetically; contains 20 times more tar and carcinogens in a joint than a cigarette; alters the reward center in your brain when dopamine is released and the brain downregulates its receptors to adjust so it IS addictive; stays in your body for up to 3 months (alcohol up to 48 hrs) so is harmful in ways not even known yet; and has been linked to high blood pressure and anxiety after prolonged use . As research progresses more is revealed. This info is plentiful and contradicts the misinformation cannabis users spread to convince others cannabis is harmless.
The recent CCSA meta analysis study about alcohol is dishonest and manipulative because it uses relative instead of absolute numbers to demonize alcohol. Drug companies

I had a disappointing experience with her because she is misinformed about many things, opinionated and becomes rude by constantly interrupting and talking over you if you disagree with her about anything or state facts that she is unaware of. I am going to talk about this misinformation and try keep it on the topic of pet foods. The store has a variety and good premium foods so is ok except that prices for certain foods are high compared to other stores. Overall, I prefer Pet Valu where employees are better informed. The reason for the two stars is 1 for the manager and 3 for the store. Now let’s get into what she told me and claimed about pet food:1) "All pet foods are now made in Canada." Huh? All one has to do is check the labels to verify this as many of our pet foods are imported directly from the US.2) She claimed that "cat foods like Almo Nature are nutritionally balanced" until I pointed out to her that the only ones in that brand that are balanced are the cans that have “Complete” on the can (on many of their cans it states "supplemental feeding only"). So, I am very disappointed in her lack of accurate knowledge and will not be returning to this store again because I can get the same foods elsewhere.I said I would stay on topic and I have, except now I am going to debunk her misinformation about cannabis. Cannabis is more harmful than alcohol because it: exacerbates schizophrenia in those prone genetically; contains 20 times more tar and carcinogens in a joint than a cigarette ; damages the reward center in your brain like other addictive drugs when dopamine is released and then the brain downregulates its receptors to adjust so it IS addictive; stays in your body for up to 3 months (alcohol only 24-48 hrs) so is harmful in ways not known yet. More and more dangers are revealed as research progresses. All this can easily be found online and contradicts the misinformation that cannabis users spread to make others think cannabis is harmless. The recent CCSA meta analysis study about alcohol is dishonest and manipulative because it uses relative instead of absolute numbers to demonize alcohol.
