From the street, this y looks like it should be one of the nicest facilities in the area. Once you walk in the friendly staff greet you and everything seems great. Check in, walk the short hallway to the basketball courts and everything goes to hell. Every morning, without fail, countless items of trash including Gatorade bottles, water bottles, and candy wrappers litter the floor. Dust bunnies are so numerous that when people run along the court, their movement makes the floor look like it's crawling. The other week one of the staff asked our group to clean it up. I don't know what the solution is, but when we are forced to go to other local ymcas to accommodate the busy schedule of the basketball courts, it's incredible what other ymcas do with less resources in maintaining their facilities. Well done westpark and west shore. May Lakewood someday achieve what you seemed to have figured out.

Use to be a member here. I use to enjoy going here to workout. I thought this would be a good place to go locally to meet new people and make new friends. But, I was dead wrong. Despite this is one of the nicer YMCA in the area beside the Avon location. This location need further updates and some of the equipment need replaced. If your going to try to socialize with people or the staff. I'd strongly advise against it. The staff are two faced, rude and will make false allegation against you . You been warned.

I visited the Lakewood YMCA for the first time on Monday, 4 December 2023 with a date. I really wanted to move my body after work on that day so my local Cleveland YMCA was a perfect choice. We arrived around 7:15pm and both signed up for our free class pass - new guests get 3-days of free gym usage which includes classes. Unfortunately for us, we wanted to use the hot tub and sauna but we didn't know that the pool area closed around 7:30pm or 8pm. We were told upon walking in that the pool closed soon so we didn't use the hot tub. So, we just utilized the gym upstairs. CARDIO and WEIGHTS -- We both used a treadmill for cardio and then lifted some weights. I used some dumbbells to do different arm and squat exercises. I loved the interesting and small climbing wall because once you get on it, it moves around (it's a round spinning wheel kind of machine) and it works alot of arm and leg muscles. Overall, I would rate the gym 3 to 3.5 which is good. I haven't used the pool area plus hot tub/sauna but I'd love to if I visit this YMCA another time. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 3/150 total reviews in 2024 - 653 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 1 February 2024

Sadly writing this for all the women who are missing the opportunity to play basketball at their local YMCA. This place used to have a great women’s league with many retired collegiate D1 D2 caliber players who came from all over the Cleveland/Akron area to participate. Under new management, they have eliminated the women’s league in it’s entirety and claim there is not enough “gym space” to begin a new league. A fancy way of saying, we don’t care enough about women’s basketball. This is certainly an injustice for us women especially with the advancements made over the years in women’s sports. Can’t believe you can’t sacrifice one night a week to allow for some equality. Our sports matter too!!!

This review is specifically for the aquatics department even though everyone at this location is an absolute pleasure.I’m February I started using this facility almost daily. My son started taking classes there too and in a few months he went from being very uncomfortable around water to having an absolute blast. Jennifer his teacher was a rock star! The aquatics supervisor Milan takes ownership of the facility as if it was his, and every single member I know also agrees that under his leadership the pool is cleaner, safer, and more fun!Check it out!

Good lookin place but the lifeguard let me dive in the pool to do laps and 4 minutes later closed the lap swimming. Instead of just apologizing, the staff at the desk made every excuse fir this. This shows some piss poor communication skills imo.I'm also frustrated because they are painting the locker room at west park and n Royalton is closed until the 18th. So I have nowhere to swim and now my suit and towel are wet. So going later ain't an option.

My experience has been great at Lakewood YMCA. The staff here are amazing. From the front desk to the swimming instructors to camp counselors. We have 3 children with autism and they have been able to fully enjoy all of the programs and activities offered at the YMCA.

Lakewood Y has a fabulous water aerobics that meets daily. The instructor Maureen is awesome. She keeps you moving for the entire hour. And if one session is not enough she has two back to back!! The negative to all this is the director doesn't seem to know how to keep the temperature of the water constant. He hasn't listened to our requests for warmer because he can't seem to figure out how to get it past 83 degrees and recently not even that. My advice is keep your eye one Maureen. If she leaves the program we'll leave and follow her...she's that good

If you’re looking to get a membership at this branch, don’t even bother! They make it nearly impossible for you to cancel and give you a different answer every time you try to follow up. They’ll still charge you and pretty much laugh in your face if you mention a refund. Staff is rude and condescending. Save yourself the heartache and money and join a different gym.

The flea market is an excellent idea.I also like the whirlpool and sauna. It's like a spa. I liked the snacks they had for visitors.

Love the silver sneaker classes. When I want to push myself, I reserve the TRX room. Great benefit of membership.

Just joined a couple weeks ago to improve my life and fitness. Everyone is so incredibly nice and helpful. This is probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. The place is very clean and up to date. The staff and other members are very nice. So far, we have not encountered any drama or snooty meat head types. Just people minding our own business and trying get/stay healthy. I really love the environment here!
