This place is the definition of depersonalized, bureaucratic medicine - an enormous organization where it's extremely difficult to get in touch with your doctor or get anything done for you in general. You have to really be good at advocating for yourself and not getting frustrated when things seem unfair or inefficient. I recently had to get a medical letter written, and between sending messages on the patient portal, having to call the office to ask someone to please respond to my messages (after waiting weeks), send more messages, drive to the office THREE TIMES because they didn't follow the very simple instructions for the letter... The process lasted a month and took up hours and hours of my time. If my doctor and I had been able to have a phone conversation, or be in the same room, the whole thing would have taken about 15 minutes. I sent a message to this effect on the patient portal as well...I knew I wouldn't get a response, because they don't really care about your experience as a patient. Dr. Frederickson is very nice in person and was very kind to me after a very negative health experience a few years ago. But dealing with the practice in general is on the level of dealing with the DMV or doing your taxes: completely inscrutable, bureaucratic, difficult to navigate.

AVOID DO NOT GO HERE — the office is not upfront about appointments costs and you will get a bill months and months later with the billing department telling you the visit was $100s of dollars more than what was due at time of your visit. Sounds about right as physicians here and elsewhere need to meet their RVUs in order to get paid their bonuses and will bill in excess in order to meet these company requirements. Not to mention your doctor will not get back to you about test results, scheduling referrals or anything else. Then when you call patient relations they will do absolutely nothing about your complaints and the cycle will continue. I’ve been hung up by office managers and other staff multiple times when asking questions on purpose — the lack of professionalism is astounding. I left this practice after 1 visit and will not support any of the other UNC Primary Care or Family Medicine Clinics, they are unethical in their practice and do not care about their patients.

I've been a regular here for a long time but had to switch providers due to my previous provider prioritizing their appearance over my well-being. Happily, my new provider is excellent, though I've noticed nurse Tracy appears strained and distant. I've had negative experiences with the staff in the past who have attempted to take advantage of or treat me disrespectfully. Fortunately, things have improved, and I now have a good experience every time I visit for my health needs.

We recently moved to NC. Looking for a new primary care can be daunting. I have to say, Nicole Frederickson, PA-C was awesome. I was seen right at my appointment time. The staff (Jesse, the nurse that did the intake) was great. Being a new patient, I had lots of questions. I did not feel rushed at all. Being a retired nurse, I’m kind of picky. I would highly recommend this practice and Nicole! Thanks for making finding a great PCP so easy!

My daughter and I have been going here for years to Dr. Sweetapple and have been very pleased with her. On the other hand, the staff, some of whom are very nice when your at the office, leave alot to be desired wben trying to get a response or answer by phone. This last time I and my daughter who had twenty minute appointments back to back, just to get our medications refilled, no other reason were treated in a most unprofessional way. Since my daughter and I had the exact same appointment, we didn't think it mattered who went 1st. I explained on the phone when I made the appointment that one of us had to remain in the car with my 3 year old grandson so whoever he would stay in the car with best for the 1st appointment, the other would come in for that appointment. The receptionist said that was fine, but when we got there everything changed. I apparently was booked 1st, but my daughter went in. When she was done it was my turn, they refused me. I asked what difference it made and they just kept repeating themselves like a recording. Needless to say I lost my temper. When my daughter came back to the car, she said that they would see me. She also told me something they did to her that really really upset me! My daughter has had an eating disorder for many years and has been to UNC Hosp. eating disorder program twice. She is not allowed to know her weight, that is a strong trigger. This is all in her file at Dr. Sweetapple's ofc. Well, not only did they let her know her weight, the nurse laughed at her when she said she wasn't allowed to know her weight as they weighed her. It DID trigger her and for the next month or so we went back into the struggle with her eating disorder again. Finally she came around. When Dr. Sweetapple came in to see me she had an attitude toward me. I never thought she would ever do that. I didn't write a review then, I just figured I would change doctors, but not there. I'm writing this not because the meds that were refilled for my daughter were not covered anymore the way it was b4. I and my daughter have been trying to get Dr. Sweetapple to change the prescription so it will be covered. We've beeb trying for several weeks now to no avail and my daughter needs her medication. This place has really let me down in everyway. If your looking for a doctor, I recommend you don't call this office!!!

Absolutely LOVE Katie! She has been so amazing over the years of making sure my health is top priority. She is professional and a trusting human. Although I live so far away I still continue to see her and take on the drive. I feel so blessed to have Katie as my doctor. ❤️

Became an established patient here in January 2020. Customer and medical care went way downhill just a couple months later once COVID hit. Appreciated the pivot to virtual visits, but getting someone on the phone to answer medical questions or help with scheduling became a nightmare 1) because it was extremely challenging to get someone to answer the phone and 2) the nurse to the PA, Nicole Frederickson, who I've seen and liked. I have chronic migraines and frequent sinus infections. I'm also incredibly mindful of COVID safety protocols. So, with the latest flare-up of sinus infection and sore throats, I've been tested multiple times. Sore throats and head inflammation not letting up though. Called on Friday 2/5. Described my symptoms and reiterated my recent COVID tests for reassurance that it's not COVID. McKayla allowed me to make simultaneous in-person 8:20 am appointments for myself and my husband to get an appointment for his own issues, including a sore throat and issue with his autoimmune disease. Today: we arrived at 8:00 am. Described symptoms at check in and the front desk staff immediately got all defensive with me. I showed them recent COVID test results and told them where I did testing, but they got all suspicious. Ridiculously paranoid. It was so confusing, overwhelming and unwelcoming. Kicked me out of the building in 30 degree weather to do a virtual visit on my phone in the car or go to urgent care if I really wanted in-person. Nurse called to do screening questions over the phone, which I had just done at the front desk and online, and when I couldn't remember an answer (tired and stressed out by all their questions, plus I legitimately couldn't remember at that moment), the nurse put me on hold to make me sit there and decide whether I could still have my appointment only to advise, "I'll let Nicole deal with you!" Meanwhile, I remained sitting in my car in 30 degrees in my car and my husband had been sent out as well, only to be allowed back in within 15 minutes. They really can't keep their policies straight! Finally, as my husband was allowed to go back in, with his own sore throat and separate issues, 10 minutes after our mutual appointments should have started, Nicole, the PA arrived in the virtual room. Answered all her questions. Turns out I have a sinus infection. People can have respiratory symptoms and not have COVID. I mentioned my persistent headaches and migraines to which she complained about my not letting her know, but it's so hard to get connected so I have just suffered rather than deal with the impatient front desk and nurse staff. She apologized for the confusion and nurse rudeness, but I'm really tired of the apologies. Get consistent policies in place and be nicer to people, especially when they come to you suffering. Meanwhile, my husband was seen in person by a different doctor and nurse. They requested additional testing to help him, which was good. They 1. Should have mentioned the policy in a better way once we arrived, 2. added a disclaimer saying anyone with a sore throat should do video consults first. We got up earlier, defrosted the car, used gas, and prepared everything for an in-person visit, only for me to be rejected. Bad customer, medical and overall medical care. I cried in my car after the very brief and impersonal virtual visit, while my husband was seen in person and I wasn't. Migraine persisted all day. It was such an awful way to start a day. Nicole said the Practice Manager would call since we were so unhappy, but they never did so here's this review about what happened instead. Really not okay. I think I'm going to switch practices yet again. Why is it so hard to get good medical care?

Dr. Sweetapple is good, understanding, knowledgeable, etc. She's fun to talk to. If you are feeling down at that moment you start feeling better when you leave. Knowing that someone cares about you and your health.
