So fun seeing all the cool pieces of wood. We purchased two beautiful cedar shelves, and 4 Adirondack chairs with side tables. Well made, and great prices!!

Really nice guy. Sells a variety of unique slabs at really good prices. However, slabs are wet and green. I found out the hard way. If you have access to a kiln or a place to air dry and cure your slab for a while Burls of Character could be a really good fit for you. If you don't, make sure that you don't completely seal your slab. It could crack and warp as ours did.EDIT: I don’t usually respond to company replies but I do want to clarify that we asked about the moister content and we were assured it was low ( I believe he told us 11 percent and claimed he’d checked with a moisture meter) and that the wood had been properly cured. These two claims were lies. We were not informed that we should not seal the slab. To be fair this was almost 4 years ago and it was for a large willow slab that is notoriously wet.I reached out to Burls of character as they requested. They did not respond and it appears do not intend to replace the slab as they publicly suggest. Don’t trust these guys.

Reply to Jesse Proctors post. All our slabs are air dried and at different moisture levels in the drying stage. We always inform customers of the moisture content and always try to sell slabs at 14% or less for immediate building use. Some people choose to buy slabs with higher moisture content to take to kiln or store for air drying themselves. We never seal slabs both sides on our builds to allow for breathing. If customers choose to air dry themselves we have no control of the conditions in which they are stored. Jesse we are very sorry that your slab cracked and warped. We would be more than willing to replace it for you at no charge if you desire. At Burls of Character we strive for QUALITY and ALWAYS want the customer to be satisfied. We built 2 dining tables out of these same slabs and had no problems at all with them, as I previously said we have no control of how someone stores the wood or processes it for a build. As I recall I recieved a message from these girls showing photo of the table they had built with the slab and later said that it had mold coming up under the finish and asked what they could do. I at that time asked if they had sealed the under side of the table and they stated that they had. I informed them that this is what caused the mold because the wood could not breath. They never mentioned anything about warping or cracking. I informed them that the only way to handle the problem was to completely sand down the table and refinish it without sealing the underside. I heard nothing else from them. This sale was at least 6 years ago as I have been in my new location for 5 years and this slab was purchased at my old location. It seems unwarranted to post a review 6 years after the fact when I was not contacted about this.

The price and the quality of the workmanship is second to none. Highly recommend Dave, don't waste your time, make him your first and ONLY stop.
