Unfortunately we have to close at some point so we quit mining operations at 3:45 or we can't close at 5 as it doesn't allow you the time needed. Nothing mean about it. We offered you a discount if you came back the following day, offered you to go dirt at a discounted price, and welcomed you to look around and shop til we closed.....

Gold City has a huge heart! Gold City Gem Mine was closed but you guys were taking up the whole Gold City Self Storage Entrance / Exit parking lot where there are several No Trespassing & No Parking Signs posted so our 60 paying self storage customers with 30' plus campers have access in and out and I recommended a great, safe spot 100 yards away so you wouldn't keep setting off the security system but you weren't concerned with anything I said....

Love it here. My daughter always has fun looking for the gems then learning about what she found. The general store is so cute and lots of different things. Staff is always helpful with anything. Overall great people and fun time.

My daughter and I had so much fun looking for gems..the owners were so incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable..they pointed out what we had and then sat down with us to go over, in detail, what all of our gems were. Would highly recommend this place and will be going back for sure.

The staff was wonderful!! Had a blast with my granddaughter. We even put in an order for custom jewelry*****UPDATE*****Here is the jewelry I had made from the gem mining. Photos don't do them justice. The are gorgeous

Walked in at 3:45 and they told us they turned the water off 30 minutes ago bc they were closing at 4 even though the all sites say 5:00. We had 4 kids ready to mine and they said they wouldn’t turn it back on. Not at all friendly.

Me and my family had a blast. From 3yo to 60yo grandma, there’s no other place you can enjoy so much with this variety of age. Employees were very accommodating and patience with all of us. They made us feel welcome. Jeff was awesome and recommended places to visit and restaurants. Our kids were so excited with the rocks they found including a big emerald. We will stop by every single time we visit Franklyn. Highly recommended. 5 stars

I have never been gem mining, and they gave me the best experience! Every employee was extremely helpful and kind. The amount of patience and knowledge is hard to beat. We ended up with a great haul. Hopefully we get the chance to stop by again!

Fantastic place! Two of the most charismatic and knowledgeable owner/employees I’ve ever met. Was able to get a gift for everyone we needed - both classic tourist mugs and magnets and then tons of beautiful gems. Fun place, awesome jewelry, and for sure the best place we went. Highly recommend, wish I could have bought more, haha.

This is a wonderful family owned place to stretch you legs and do some gem mining on the way to or from the Smoky mountains. My wife and I both have childhood memories of this place from 30+years ago. My 70 year old mother has childhood memories from here in the 1960s On our way back home from our most recent vacation in the Smoky Mtns we stopped by just for some reminiscing and a few photos since it had been years since we had stopped. After meeting the owner and hearing his passion for the history of this place we have decided we will not make another trip to the Smokys without stopping and spending some time at Gold City. I don't usually leave actual reviews for places but I'm sure many other people have childhood memories from this place too. I would suggest stopping and doing some gem mining or shopping to support this piece of history. You'll be glad you did.
