Awful experience. Said that my booking had to be cancelled due to no available cars despite me booking months in advance.
The guy working there did not offer any alternative or work to resolve the issue.
By sheer luck, someone dropped off a car which we were able to use and granted, it was a nice car however I know there were other bookings that day that would not have been so lucky.
I cannot fathom how this can occur and very much hope others were not stranded.
Definitely recommend avoiding. Hope Herz offers compensation and sorts this issue out.

Stay away!!
They canceled my reservation an hour before saying there were no cars available. Didn’t offer any alternatives or credit to another mode of transportation.
Told us the people with our car extended their reservation. How their systems enable that is unacceptable, especially when reserving a car weeks in advance.
Very disappointing. Do not rent here!!

We rented here 2 years ago and it was okay back then.
This time an absolute disgrace: alleged system crashes, waiting for almost 2 hours. The car we booked was not in stock, for switching from an SUV to a much smaller car we got a $19 discount for 9 days... No excuse for waiting time or anything like that.
But now the real shame:
We were presented with something to sign, you sign on a pad (for the 5th time in a row, since the program supposedly crashed every time), then you receive the receipt and we immediately complained that something had been calculated incorrectly because we Had a voucher through ADAC Germany for the entire booking. The gentleman, who was just happy that he had finally managed to complete the documents, said: oh no, otherwise we'll correct that at the end when we return it, it'll all be fine. Everyone can imagine what is happening now. Us were
over $200 extra and now Hertz tells us 'sorry, you signed it'. The last resort is used here to rip off customers. We come to Long Island regularly, but next time we won't be using a rental car from Hertz.

The car we rented smells like smoke. The car was not ready for our reserved rental pick up time.

They, by admission, overbook and do not have enough cars. Cue Seinfeld - clearly you don't know how reservations work.
Should have looked at stars and reviews. Book somewhere else who values your reservation.
I cannot wait to see their automated apology. They clearly don't know how that works either.

So the poor guy working at the desk, Mehrab, is fine and just doing the best he can. He is clearly handcuffed by a bad system at the corporate level. I spent 3h waiting here to pick up my car. Biggest offenses: desk was understaffed. One guy to handle both cleaning the cars and checking in an onslaught of customers picking up, and clearly not enough inventory to support high season.
Mehrab was unable to release a prepaid car for an early pick up even if I paid extra. I had booked for noon but showed up at 9am. So after trying several times to release the car to me, he told me to call the corporate line. I was quoted a 10 minute hold time and then waited 21 minutes. The call center is clearly run from India, the guy on the phone took one minute to rebook my reservation for 10:30a (which is what time it was by then), easy peasy. So I waited in line again, another half hour, and get to the front: lo and behold, the reservation had not been changed in the system. I called corporate line again, again quoted 10 mins, and then held this time for 28 minutes. At this point it is 11:40a, 20 mins before my actual reservation was about to start. I just asked them to release the car so I wouldn’t have to wait the additional 20 mins, and he would only do it if I paid extra. Just a poorly run company. Horrific customer service. Will not be renting from them again and will warn away everyone.

Rented a car here for my parents. They had a lengthy check in process and only one employee working. Waited over an hour to get to pick up a car. It shouldn't be this difficult, especially on the busiest week of the summer. Wish we had spent the $30 extra and used Enterprise.

Don’t even bother! They don’t have any cars here! The one car they had , brakes were squeaky and wheel was clicking when you turn it and had no gas, ran a lil rough! While Barbara was helpful there’s nothing that would make me consider renting from there again. Very inconvenient and also if you do ride share with Uber they only rent to Uber riders Tues-Fri via Barbara. It’s not noted when renting or anywhere in the facility.

Should’ve read the reviews… all I can say is the only employee there doesn’t want to work and must enjoy screwing people over. Left me stranded with no car in a rural area because he decided to close out my ticket and said if I want to rebook with a debit card I have to do it online 24hrs ahead… it was Saturday and they’re closed on Sunday with no Ubers in the area. Wasted over $100 waiting over an hour for an Uber just to come back and be denied because “he can’t lease without a credit card” even though I booked online and paid for it fully AND just rented last week with my debit prior to driving up here…

My wife rented a car a few weeks back. Although, we had made a reservation, they did not have a car available. So they gave us a Mercedes (bait and switch?). We needed to extend our rental and they forwarded us to their website. After typing in our rental agreement number, the website provided an estimated all in price due at drop off which (stated on their webiste) INCLUDED "ANY OPTIONAL EXTRAS". While returning the vehicle we were hit with charges 340% OVER the total they estimated. We have been on the phone many times with their customer service, each time we have been given a different reason or excuse for the charge. We have asked many times to speak with a manager and have been told by some supervisors that managers do not exist or that a manager will call us back (none of which have ever called). This company has been very deceitful, and their screens "don't match the hurtz website" - their words not ours. We have even been told more than once, that "they cant see exactly what we agreed to, but they 'know' the charges are valid for it". We have have asked to see screenshots of what they see, but they are not willing to share OUR order information.DO NOT RENT WITH THEM.TERRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICES AND EVEN WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Can't recommend & don't trust what they tell you at the counter at this location: Car rented for a one-way had body damage and 3/8 tank of gas. Counter rep told me that the gas level and damage was noted in my rental record, but their printer was down, so I received no printed copy. Returning the car ... and was told it was recorded as leaving with a full tank and no note of damage. Thankfully the counter representative where I returned was understanding and didn't charge me.

Hertz service has gone down the tiolet. I want to confirm availability of cars in the Riverhead location and it suggests going on an App or website and then hangs up with "good by" and hangs up. Talk about horrible customer service.
