I generally have positive experiences at Ace Hardware in Malta, thanks to the helpful and patient staff who have supported my DIY learning journey. Regrettably, my recent visit was marred by an encounter with Tom at the 'Helpful Hub,' which compels me to write this review.Tom was dismissive, rude, and made me feel incompetent, a stark contrast to the treatment I've come to expect here. I came prepared with research and a clear understanding of what I needed, albeit without the actual hardware piece. His response to my query was "I can’t help if you don’t have it," followed by an awkward pause and then he turned his back on me, all delivered in a condescending tone.Understanding that having the piece would have been ideal, a simple suggestion to bring it next time would have sufficed—no need for rudeness or making customers feel undervalued.While I don’t doubt (but wouldn’t know) that Tom has the knowledge to work in the “Helpful Hub,” perhaps he should consider a role in the stock room until he can hone the social skills required for effective customer service. Good customer interaction requires not just a knowledge base, but also the ability to engage positively with people.On a positive note, the rest of the staff, especially a kind gentleman at the checkout who is a retired exterminator, consistently make me feel supported and respected. He deserves five stars for his service.To anyone in customer service, remember, many of your customers are trying their best and learning new skills. A little kindness and understanding go a long way, especially since you never know what kind of day someone is having. I expect to be treated as a competent adult, nothing more, nothing less.

Ive come in here many times over the years and its been great, however, this one time was enough for one star. I had come into the store about 25 minutes to closing to get hand cleaner, which I already felt bad for, I couldn’t get out of work early. The guy sitting between the aisles asked if I needed help, I told him what I was looking for and he directed me to the right aisle, which was great. When I got there, I remembered some other things i needed that were in that same aisle, so I was looking and within not even five minutes of browsing the same guy came up asking me if I needed help, seeming frustrated that I was even there, I asked him about the exact location of the hand cleaner in the aisle while I was looking at tools, he instantly was just irritated and practically laughed in my face for not seeing it was right next to me… like alright sir I was looking at something else and YOU asked?! im sorry? The people up front were very nice and professional but I was already irritated by the interaction…

Had a problem with dishwasher bottom rack rollers that are held in place with plastic pins. Over time the roller sockets and pins due to wear no longer worked well. Several pins simply started falling out when sliding rack in or out. Looked for a solution at Malta Ace Hardware. Was helped by Partick, Sean and Tom. The first 2 had great ideas, but weren't able to find the perfect solution. Tom was asked to help. In a matter of minutes he found stainless steel male/female screw pins of perfect fit. The wheels will probably outlast the life of the dishwasher. Tom's a genius!

When I walked and I was greeted by three very knowledgeable gentlemen very pleasant, asked what I was looking for called an employee from that department, I told him what I needed he took me right the two areas to purchase exactly what I needed. Had a nice conversation with the gentleman in the front. It's nice going to a store where someone takes you to where the items are in just doesn't point, like the big box stores. I will be returning for the rest of the items I need for my projects.

I visit this store often. My wife loves it. Good staff and well stocked. Easy parking. A walkway ramp.
