My current checking account with Bank of America was opened in Texas way back in 1992 when they were still NationsBank - that's an oversimplification of the merger that happened but you get the gist. My financial life has had its ups and downs (heavy on the downs, if I'm being honest) over these last 31 years, and this ol' checking account has seen it all.I have been pretty ambivalent about Bank of America over these years. The service was never remarkable but also never terrible. Because I never had much reason to call or set foot in a branch beyond the ATM, there was no need to change anything. I did have a short lived and somewhat misguided tryst with Captial One last year, but their decidedly dreadful customer service chased me right back to the familiar arms of Bank of America.Lately, though, Bank of America seems to be working to improve its relationship with its customers and I'm feeling happier and happier with my decision to stick with them for my banking. It started last summer when they dropped their overdraft fees. Sure, they never should have been charging them in the first place, but I was really pleased to see that they stopped. Okay, now the thing that has inspired me to review a bank. A couple of weeks ago I got a call from Alex, the relationship manager at this branch of the bank. He was just reaching out to see if I had any questions or needed help with anything. I did just open up a small business account recently, so maybe that inspired the call. Either way, this is some personal service I have not come to expect from any bank, much less one of the major ones. I made an appointment to come in and just talk about my accounts, and see if there was anything I was missing or anything they could offer in terms of services. I met with Alex for 30 minutes or so to discuss my business and personal accounts, and then he handed me off to Bryan, a financial services advisor with Merrill to talk about my retirement account I had recently set up.Both of these guys were totally friendly, non-judgmental about my financial illiteracy, and completely chill in general in talking about B of A and where my banking fit into the services they offer.I always talk about how surprised I am by the "small town" feeling I get living in Brooklyn, and now here's a branch location of one of the big three banks going out of their way to give Mayberry vibes, Andy Griffith style. I really hope to see B of A continue to move in this direction and I plan on sticking around with them for as long as I can.

Maybe the least personalized or efficient banking experience ever. Went in to have them assist with a wire transfer because it seemed complicated, and the person helping me didn't bother to verify the information I provided him (and didn't check with supervisors to verify why all information wasn't included). The result was that the wire was rejected/returned, which can take up to 5-10 days according to the other bank. When I went back to have the issue corrected today, the employee was defensive and insisted he had done everything correctly, despite recalling that I questioned him about the missing information yesterday. If they want to retain customers, they really need to up their customer service training.

Extremely slow service. Teller is extremely slow and often preoccupied. Poorly managed branch. Staff is lackadaisical and show no initiative for tending to customers

Amazing customer service. I was trying to resolve an international wire transfer issue for months - and eventually decided to go to local BoA Financial Center. Fortunate to finally get to the bottom of this. Thank you Dimitriy!

Very slow. Not very efficient or pleasant. Much prefer the location on 5th Avenue in South slope. Won't be coming to this one again.

They really did their best to help me out with a wire. Super friendly, and because of them I was able to successfully send the down payment. They’re great!

Card reader out front sucks. But the machines have money, and they even give you some if you ask nicely!

If you feel like getting robbed and hanging out with the homeless inside the ATM area this is the place to go. It's rarely opened and has become dangerous with the amount of homeless hanging out inside during closed hours.

Came in about 2 weeks ago to open a join bank account and spent over 2 hours to get it done. Just returned to the same branch where I thought the joint account was opened, to find out that I was solo in it. They are extremely slow and disconcerting to people’s time.
