Although this is a Hampton hotel, it was much nicer than the typical hotel. It's right in downtown Portsmouth close to all the restaurants and shopping. Room was clean, comfortable bed and basics provided. It's valet parking but included in the stay. The manager was incredible and extremely helpful as well as professional.

The rooms are very clean and what you'd expect when paying between two and three hundred for an evening. The location is amazing as you're right downtown in the middle of all the shops. The breakfast buffet was pretty lackluster though. For the same price the Hilton just around the corner has a much better made to order breakfast option and the rooms are just about the same price and quality if not slightly better.

Room layout is terrible unless you enjoy watching tv at an severe angle - see photo. A simple adjustable tv mount would rectify this situation, but the TVs are anchored flat into the wall.
Asked about the room layout and was told all rooms are set up like this, which i find hard to believe given the shape of the structure.
Generally speaking, the front desk was not very accommodating to change
Plenty of other options in the vicinity. Lesson learned.

Great from start to finish. Extremely clean from the time you enter the door all the way to your room. There's a small refrigerator in our room which was helpful, sometimes you can't even get those anymore. Easy walk to all the shops.
Nearby activities: Take a look at the map, all the major businesses are within walking distance. About 1 mi or more from interstate 95.

Spent our anniversary weekend. Clean , nice rooms.
Beds are a little uncomfortable. Trouble sleeping.
Big downer: kids running through the halls screaming. For 250.00 a night, I should not have been awakened by that.

Good location. Room decent. Tv had some channels locked/blocked so could not watch. Front desk could not help. Air/ heat was dirty, dry and was awful. No water bottle available, but there was a paper cup for tap water. I was upset the tv channel i watch was blocked. Will not go back.
Walkability: Can walk to restaurants and shops.

We booked a 1 night stay in a king room. Diamond status is recognized with a welcome gift bag with two waters and snacks. We were also put on a higher floor as per our preferences and in a corner room with a better view (please note this location doesn't really have much of a view, but you can catch a beautiful sunset from higher floors)
Pros:
- Rooms are clean and somewhat spacious compared to other Hampton Inn's in other cities
- They are within walking distance of many great restaurants and right in town
Cons:
- Expensive parking, but it is in line with parking in most cities these days
It's a solid choice if you're coming through Portsmouth. For a quick stop it was perfect for our needs.
Walkability: It's right in the middle of town, great food places everywhere.

After reading review prior to my stay I knew my feedback would match up. staff is very friendly and attentive! Rooms are a little outdated and you can hear everything through the walls. Family upstairs, we heard a child crying and running around all morning. Luckily we were out and about so we were up at that point, but it was LOUD. Amazing location, walking distance to everything ! If you choose to valet with the hotel it’s $40 a night. My stay was less than 48 hours so to pay $80 to park at a hotel is just silly to me, but nothing you can do. They have a parking lot, which is small, but that’s where they valet your car. Any overflow goes to the street according to the valet signs. There are parking garages around but after doing the research/math it’s about $85 for a weekend.

We found the Hampton Inn at downtown Portsmouth to be very clean and modern, staff was very friendly and courteous, our room was very nice, the bed was comfortable, came with a free breakfast as well. The location was great, walking distance to all the restaurants and shops, we went to Jimmy's Jazz and Blues which was a short walk from the hotel, and saw a great show, would very highly recommend
