I don’t have anything bad to say about Colonial Van and Storage! Granted my cross country moving experience in the past from another company could not have been worse, I felt extremely at ease with Colonial every step of the way during my move from Reno, NV to Miami, FL. They don’t do quotes over the phone-someone comes to your house to visually see what is being shipped and give you an accurate quote which is based upon weight and given to you right then. Pick up team was professional and prompt. They weigh the empty truck before they come and weigh it after they pick up and then adjust your price accordingly if need be. I have never heard of a mover lowering the price because they are moving less than expected. However, my load was 1,000 lbs less than quoted and they reduced the price accordingly. This is when I knew I was dealing with a legitimate operation. The long distance driver was in communication every day after commencing the drive so I had accurate location information for my belongings. They also pick up the phone and give you updates whenever you request them (the company I dealt with in the past never picked up the phone once they had half the money and all of my stuff). Char was extremely polite and sweet in every interaction I had with her. No money upfront before pick up or at pick up. None of this “half now, half on delivery” nonsense. Pay with credit card the day before delivery or cashiers check to the driver on delivery. Definitely recommend.
Never use a company that does quotes over the phone or requires half the payment upfront.

The first phase went great. The problem was with the delivery. They got done and then said “please sign here”. There was no one taking inventory of box numbers vs the inventory list I was given, so I am pretty much signing acceptance without any idea that I have everything. Well…I did not. Many missing items. To add insult on top of injury- they called me later to say I owed $1300 more, because they made an error when they gave me the bill. Lesson learned. Stand there at the truck and record box numbers vs manifest.

We've always used Allied Van Lines to move us. We always have them pack us along with moving our household belongings. Early in October, we moved across country and once again called Allied. The local agent was Colonial in Reno. The office staff was great along with our estimator. The packers were terrible. The only decent one was Tony, who packed the kitchen. The individual assigned to pack our garage only packed half of it before he left for the day. Most of his time was spent smoking outside. We didn't realize the garage cabinets weren't packed until the truck was almost loaded the next day. Those items were literally thrown into a box and not even wrapped. We are also still looking for several items that haven't turned up while unpacking. They also removed doors to get large pieces of furniture out of the rooms and didn't reinstall them before leaving. We are so dissatisfied that our next move will be with a different moving company.

The packers and driver were very good. The ops manager Dana was evasive and deceitful. The local team told me I should buy my own boxes. I did the the packers said they would not use them and suggested I should request some relief. I asked for half what I paid and Dana the local manager avoided my calls, hid behind the receptionist and when I finally spoke to her lied and said because trucking is regulated she could discount me $200 on a $40,000 move. She finally told me it was between me and the rep! So I have a lot of friends in the area and as of right now I’m a big no on Colonial.

Terrific service from Colonial Van, beginning with sales agent David Sutton's home visit and estimate followed up by Charlene in the office and continuing with the excellent packing crew: Don, Brandon and Jason. Just moved across the country with Colonial. I was happy with that experience. Driver was punctual, very careful not to damage doors or floor of either house. He and the packers he had come to prepare our goods wrapped furniture carefully. He made it across country in one week even though he had to pick up another load after ours. Overall, I was very happy with the move.

Colonial Van has the most courteous and professional Customer Service I've encountered in a long time. I am in a remote town in rural nevada, called them to see if they could help someone there. I knew that it was too far but thought can't hurt to call. They returned my call were incredibly courteous professional and just lovely to speak with.

This review is at the request of Colonial Van and Storage in Sparks, Nevada who emailed me asking me to review them. I would give them negative stars if I could. They were not professional and not responsive to the problems. This was our 10th move and by far the worst. We had booked this mover over a month before our move and I even paid for the move ahead of time so there would be no snags. The afternoon before they were to arrive and load our contents they said they did not have a driver although they had promised us they would. So our house full of expensive antiques were loaded in their trucks and taken to their warehouse and unloaded. We had no choice but to continue to our new house in Tennessee without any clue to when our furniture would arrive. It took us five days to get to Tennessee and every day I would call this company to get updates, and everyday I got the same response. No driver yet but we are trying. The estimator for the company would not return my calls, the Manager for the company would not return my calls. Only one person there, Char tried the best she could to help us. So they picked up our furniture on 11/18 and we did not get it her until 12/10. We spent the entire time sleeping on a blowup mattress in an empty house and making do the best we could without anything. When the furniture finally arrived there was damage to a few expensive pieces. I am now in the process of waiting for some reimbursement for the damage and the delay and the over weight charged refund. I WOULD NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. DON'T BELIEVE THEM WHEN THEY PROMISE YOU ANYTHING. FROM OUR EXPERIENCE IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE!

This is the forth time we have used Colonial Van & Storage to move out, store and return our belongings to/from Reno. We have had exceptional service from every department (estimator, moving team, and office). No items were lost or damaged, nor was there any damage to our home during the moves. We recommend contacting Kevin to get your process started. Their quote was competitive with others. Both the July 2021 Move Out/ October 2021 move out was managed by Dale. His 'A Team' included Matt O, Matt S and Adam. They approached the move in a professional attitude and efficient manner during some very miserable weather. We highly recommend these folks to prove a seamless and painless move, which is comforting in today's crazy real estate market. PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW... I ONLY WISH I WOULD HAVE READ THE PREVIOUS REVIEWS ON YELP ABOUT Colonial Moving and Storage and Allied Vanlines. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, use anyone else and check the reviews on Yelp and Google. Bottomline this is a shady company that will pick up your household and then delay your delivery by months with excuse after excuse... "truck broke down", "the part they need to fix truck is not in stock", then "truck overheated on the road", then "flat tire"... all the while we find out our household was sitting in storage in Sparks, NV, while they took on other moving jobs because they were not ready to travel to our destination. This is the game moving companies play, but this company is a master at it. Anytime you would call anyone Dana or Kathy they would always say, "ok I will make a couple calls", never get back to you and then they deliver you an even later delivery date. David the salesperson also pulled this job on us after they picked up all of our household, tried to say that the load was 8,000 pounds heavier than he estimated, and "that has never happened to me in the 20 years I have been working in this industry" How many times has he probably said that to clients? We had a guarantee delivery date and we did not get all of our items until almost 2.5 months later. And to boot they only delivered 1/2 of our items in one run and then came back weeks later and delivered the rest. This is how they avoid paying you the $100 a day delay fee. If they even deliver you one toaster by the guarantee date, they avoid paying the fee. In addition, we are missing items, half of our boxes arrived without stickers and they opened one of our fine art boxes and placed someone else's table top in there. Why are they opening boxes? Makes you wonder if they go through your stuff. We also received one box that was not our box, had someone else's information on the box, but our stuff was inside it. Also finally when they arrived, there was only 2 guys to unload a 5 bedroom house. This company is placing profits over customer experience for sure. It was the most stressful time of our lives dealing with this company and living on sleeping bags for almost 3 months. Our lives and personal essential were at their mercy. Look elsewhere!

Just had a recent move & HAD $ STOLEN from inside my house WHILE I WAS THERE W MY BABY!! THE WORST!!!!!!!THE ONLY REASON THEY GET A 2 star review is because they WERE FAST & nothing was broken JUST MONEY STOLEN!!!!!
