I was utilizing the services of this firm for over 4 years. I was then transferred to a Deborah Perry that took over my file 2 years ago without being notified prior. I continued to use their services, despite many times that Deborah responded condescending, or not in a timely manner. They continued to render services without taking money at times or even explaining what they were doing, the costs, or really notifying me of an invoice or cost, until after the service was completed. I actually paid close to $4,000 for a service to the IRS that I was told would be completed, that was not accepted by the IRS with their processes. I went through a divorce in 2023 and in doing so, I was traveling in and out of the country. I was disputing some of the invoices given to me, and in doing so, they continued to refuse appointments for me to come into the office until I "settled my invoices". I sent countless emails to Deborah in regards to speaking to me, and they were all disregarded. Finally back in the country, I verified and settled my invoice, and received a nasty phone call from a Mark, who claimed to be an account manager. He stated they do not work for free, and that they will discontinue services with me, after I just paid my invoice. I nicely explained I was traveling and said in the future I would actually like to pay my invoices in advance for services I am actually requesting, but this individual was extremely rude, and arrogant stating he is confident that this firm is good enough that they won't care what reviews I write, or need my business. I would highly suggest not ever using this firm as they are late in responding, expensive and talk to you in a very condescending way. If I could give these people 0 stars I would,after all the money I spent at this firm. Go to a different firm.

They asked us to upload our documents to their portal. After uploading our last 3 years of tax returns, we did not hear back from them. I called after a week and they said they couldn't take on more clients. Why ask for us to upload taxes if you can’t take more clients? Waste of time and effort.

While the people here were kind to work with, the person working on our tax return had some knowledge gaps. Specifically around SEP IRA contribution limits, differences between the SE health insurance deduction and the premium tax credit, FINCEN, and more. And then little things like misspelling one of our names, figures being entered slightly incorrectly compared to uploaded documents, etc. While we did learn some new things that reduced our tax liability somewhat, overall we didn't think this was a good value and next year we'll do it on our own.

Warning, this is a long review! I have been with Ellsworth & Stout for over 20 years until this past tax return. My return was prepared as normal and I was using the exact same bank account that I have used for the last 20 years however when my refund was to be processed and the money was to be withdrawn from my account it did not happen. I contacted Lissa to tell her the return had not been withdrawn and she said just give it time. Fast forward an additional month and a half and the same was true. Lissa advised me that "this was weird" so just either call the IRS and take care of that myself or wait to get the letter with the penalties included. The first problem with that is I should not need to do the leg work when I have paid them to complete this process for me. I did wait for the letter to arrive and the penalties were included. I contacted Ellsworth & Stout and after many times of going back-and-forth with their office I was told that they would represent me at half price of $75 per hour and contact the IRS on my behalf. I explained to them that this was unacceptable since I had already paid them their fee to do the service of preparing my tax return, my penalties were $250 but I would end up paying them an additional $150 to sit on hold with the IRS for a resolution. Their response was that it wasn't their fault and they had proof of this and nor was it my fault so I shouldn't pay either and just this once they would waive their fees. Their office manager was very disrespectful to me and there should have been no going back-and-forth, they should have taken care of this properly from the very first time I contacted Lissa. After 20 years of doing business with them I thought I would've been treated better but that was not the case! I will not be returning so let me know if you have a tax advisor that you recommend.

Deb is the best!!! She is so patient and kind and really goes to work for you. I’ve had several CPAs in the past and no one’s client service comes close to hers. Hiring them is the best decision I’ve made in a long time.

I came to Ellsworth and Stout in 2015 needing guidance. I am a dentist. They have saved me tons of money in taxes and have taken the headache out of April by doing most of the work themselves. In addition, they have helped me setup a number of other items for my business. Whenever I have a question or need something addressed they are always there for me. Veronica, Lori, Deborah, Lissa, Phillip have all be wonderful. Thank you all for your help!

This business hasn't taken any precautions for COIVD.None of their employees today wore a mask at all and were all in close proximity to each other. The main receptionist who is an older woman has her mask not covering her nose.The building that they are located in as well has no precautions setup.People can come in with no masks.There are no signs saying you should wear one.The bathroom sinks only have one motionless sink.Go elsewhere for your tax needs as this place might be a risk.

I would give zero stars if possible. They've been my CPAs for almost 2 years. They have failed to file my quarterly payroll on time (and cost me fees) and also screwed up my personal tax return with the IRS (penalty and then a refund). They are extremely not responsive to any of these issues. Not helpful with any questions. Seriously - I question whether these positive reviews were from friends or family members.
