This zoo is absolutely the best! We enjoyed every bit of the zoo. 95% of the animals were active and we enjoyed the view to the fullest. It’s a great place for family outing with the kids. There are several aquariums including the hippos, Mississippi River fishes, penguins, and sea lions. Each of the aquariums were great. Please plan to spend at least 4-5 hours in the zoo, otherwise it won’t be possible to watch all the animals.

I visited this zoo twice in one week, on Friday and then Sunday. This was my first time coming here and actually my first time ever coming to a zoo as an adult. At first it was discouraging because we didn’t see animals at the first few exhibits but then we were mind blown. The experience was amazing and we had so much fun. Came all the way from out of state and it was definitely worth it.

I love this zoo so much! They always have educators posted around the zoo who are knowledgeable about the animals in their areas and have posts with each exhibit that gives general information about each animal found within it.The zoo is free to enter and is fairly priced on the majority of extra attractions and even their gift ship items aren't terribly expensive, in comparison with the average American zoo.My only big gripe is that while they say they're accessible, that's not entirely true. If you have an electric wheelchair or scooter, absolutely. They're great. But if you are a manual wheelchair user the zoo can be a nightmare to traverse. The hills are abundant and steep, making for hard inclines and dangerous declines. If you're a manual wheelchair user without a companion to push you or help you up the hill, or you're not an ambulatory wheelchair user and cannot assist the chair up the hills or brake with your feet, I highly recommend renting an electric scooter or waiting until you have a companion to assist you in your visit. To end on a high note, all the facilities were clean and the layout of the zoo was simple to follow.Great place for the whole family, just be extra aware of possible hazards if you're disabled.

We loved going to the Zoo! Growing up in San Diego we always loved the San Diego Zoo so it was a fun experience and see another large Zoo. Free admission is amazing! Buying the additional attractions is a fun plus for those who want a few extra things to do. The wrist bands made it easy to walk into the extra attractions without having to keep track of tickets. It was clean and well kept. If you are a member of the Zoo the attraction tickets are 50% off. If you are a member of any local Zoo they will honor the 50% off as long as you show the active membership. I didn't know that until I walked up to the window to purchase our tickets, so that was a bonus! We went during the Halloween season and the decorations were awesome! We ate lunch at the Lakeside Cafe. The lines looked long but they were pumping food out quickly. The standard kid friendly options are available and some adult options as well. They did offer alcohol, limited selection but it was offered at a reasonable price actually. The food wasn't crazy priced either, but what you would expect from any fast food place in 2023. Getting around was easy even when it got congested with people. It was a cooler day when we went so the animals were active and out playing. Overall it was a great experience all day and we will definitely make our way back to spend more time looking at all the animals.

As a St Louis resident, the STL zoo is my number one favorite place to hang out in the city.Whether it’s busy or slow, hot & humid or cold & rainy this is always the place I am always drawn too.If you are just visiting the city the zoo needs to be on your list of places to visit. It has 2 entrances and both are easily accessible. It’s free to enter and there is so much to see. Every person who works here is friendly, knowledgeable and works to create a great experience. The facilities are always clean and there are so many vending choices that there is rarely a wait. You can also always bring your own picnic in and eat in the grassy field areas in the middle of the park. It’s a nice quiet space with picnic tables and lots of grass to get away with your group for a bit and eat or just chill for a bit.If it’s super hot or cold you can always count on enjoying the bug house. It’s indoors and it’s wonderful for kids. Then at the end you can walk through the temp controlled butterfly dome which is just amazing.Seriously do not hesitate to visit this place, it’s a true gem of the city.

What can I say. You can't beat free. But for real this zoo was amazing. I wish I had more time to visit all the exhibits. The park was clean and wasn't overcrowded when I went. They have a huge selection of animals to look at. Plenty of spots to sit down and eat and of course gift shops . I'll definitely want to come back if I visit Saint Louis again. It's a great spot for family trip.

What a great zoo! It was truly a beautiful set up and maintained zoo with plenty to do! The admission was free for the entire family which is a huge plus, and there are a few paid attractions in the zoo which were worth the money, but entirely optional. The food was tasty and prices fairly. The animals looked to be well taken care of and had nice big enclosures. The zoo was huge and had much more to do and see than we were expecting coming from a smaller city with a much smaller zoo. Spent 4 hours here and honestly could have spent even more time to see and do everything. If you enjoy zoos at all this is absolutely a must visit if you're in the area!

Great experience. Bought the adventure pass and it was well worth it. Take plenty of drinks and snacks. We did ride the train which was fun. There are no views of the animals from the train, but it was great to help take you to the next area to see the animals and attractions.

This zoo is top tier. Please walk with water, snacks and lunch. Totally worth the time and effort. If you’re strapped for funds, take public transport. Otherwise, get there earlier and park for $15 per vehicle. We toured the zoo and visited sections most desired. You can save on walking by buying a train ticket for the day and zip through the park section (wonderful added feature). My kids loved every moment. Definitely, won’t disappoint.

The zoo was OK. Loved that it was free admission. The parking was very cluttered and the zoo grounds were a disappointment unfortunately. Coming from Cincinnati where we have one of the best kept zoo's I have even been too, makes a tough comparison. Just wish they took more pride in cleaning up their exhibits and clearing the grass and weeds. We must of picked a bad day to go because so many exhibits weren't open and so many animals not out. The butterfly house was my favorite Honesty. It was a cool experience to see. I always love the hippos too. There is a lot of walking so wear good walking shoes.

Beautiful zoo. Free! You can pay $17 for a pass that will allow you to pet the sting rays and ride the train. If you have little ones, the train is a good option to get around the zoo, since it's quite large. You can hop on and hop off at certain areas. They also have stroller parking at the trains. For those who like penguins, they have a great penguin room that lets you really observe them semi-close.

The most beautiful and fun part of the St. Louis zoo are the gorgeous native wildflowers in bloom! I loved to see interesting pollinators at work. Great idea to start replacing the stinky fuel trains with electric trains. I prefer the train ride connection around the elephant house as opposed to the stinky train rides through dark tunnels. We were expecting to see more sights from the train and we can't recommend the added expense! The penguin and puffin indoor exhibits were a fantastic way to cool off from the heat and sun. They are so amazingly cute! I loved walking through the butterfly enclosure for close encounters with a nice variety of butterflies. The grizzly bears were fascinating to see eating what looked like frozen blocks of food. They showed their intelligence using various strategies to break apart the food blocks. I was deeply sad to witness the tiny enclosure for the polar bear and wish it a happy and free life in a better, more wild place. I hope that it can be given more room to move, swim and be free. ?❄️ This zoo would get a higher rating from me if it weren't for how upsetting it is to see our cramped polar bear friend trapped and sad.

Fantastic zoo!!! If you plan on seeing the whole thing, I would highly suggest planning for a whole day there as the zoo is huge!!! The dinosaurs are worth the money, super cool, and the kids loved it! The train is nice but you're not allowed to bring any stroller on which can be difficult when you have small children. This zoo is so much fun, and is great exercise!

Wow, I wish we had a zoo like this in my town.Admission is free. So I was surprised to find out that the food was clean and tasty enough. It was a hot day, but the walkways were very lovely, with plenty of shade from the trees. The animals outside were sleeping because it was hot.It was nice to see the butterflies. If you are thirsty in hot weather, you can ask for water at any restaurant, and they will very kindly give it to you for free. I guess they don't want visitors to fall on a hot day. There are so many people that you can't park even if you are a regular person.I recommend going early in the morning.
