EDIT 9/11/24: Calah has responded to me and processed the refund for my canceled stay. She apologized for the delay.
Original review:
The Covington Inn seemed like a nice B&B to spend our anniversary weekend, but unfortunately, we never found out. We paid for one night with the added "Romance Package", which totaled nearly $400.
Unfortunately, the day before our stay, Calah at the Inn emailed to let us know that the boat has suffered damage and would not be open for a stay. She asked me to call her to find alternate accomodations, but she did not answer the line that was provided on the Inn's website and didn't call back when I left a voicemail. I ended up paying for a hotel room in downtown St. Paul without her assistance since she didn't answer emails or calls.
Since then, I have not heard back from Calah, despite multiple calls and emails asking for a refund for the last-minute cancellation. As much as I would like to give this B&B a positive review, I can't do that after paying almost $400 and then being ghosted by the owner.

Staying here was my favorite thing about my visit to St Paul. It was so comfortable, relaxing, and interesting in the best way! Harriet island is very nice to walk around. On the Inn you'll also experience excellent views. I watched the sunset from the upper deck. Lot's of peaceful entertainment watching the birds. Not far from downtown but really feels like an escape. Has every modern amenity, despite being a boat! Came to St Paul for a conference at the intercontinental and stayed here on my last night, I wish I had stayed here the whole time! It is a very short walk. The owner is very kind and accommodating. I'm vegan and she made me a delicious breakfast. Staying at the Covington is really a must-do! I hope I have an excuse to come back and cannot recommend it highly enough!
Rooms: So cute and comfy! I was in the mates quarters. I wish I stayed more than one night. It was perfect
Nearby activities: Explore the island!
Safety: Felt very safe
Walkability: Not far from downtown! I walked to and from there.
Food and drinks: The host prepared a lovely breakfast accommodating my vegan! There's also a fridge in the room, and a kitchen area in the lobby. I enjoyed having the kettle for tea. I got takeout for lunch from babani's nearby (delicious!)

I was very disappointed in the Covington Inn. I see some of these reviews and am wondering if you were at the same place. I went on the website and this looked like the perfect getaway after a crazy week so I booked it. My husband and I drove 5 hours and when we arrived we weren’t sure we were at the right place. We parked in a lot at the park and walked to where the boats were and we found the Covington and walked on. Had to call several times to gain entry and once we were in the woman that greeted us seemed nice enough and gave us the key to our room and told us breakfast is at 9:30 on the weekends and if we are up before anyone feel free to start the coffee and she gave us a piece of paper to put in our windshield so the car didn’t get towed. We went to our room looked around opened the door to our private sitting area and were greeted by cobwebs and a mess. By this time I was in tears as this place was over $200 a night we walked back to our car and there was a drug deal happening right behind it. I was not comfortable at all. We went to Minnehaha falls and then went back and I tried to give it one more chance and we walked to the upper deck and walking out the door were hit by more cobwebs and the chairs up top were full of cobwebs. Then I read a few reviews and how the parking lot wasn’t safe at night. I decided to go with my gut and we left. Went to another town was able to get a hotel and I messaged the Inn. The lady called asking if we were ok as I told her of the drug deal and the cobwebs etc. she said she wished I would’ve given her a chance to clean them. Umm…that should’ve been done before we ever arrived. She said well it is spring. It was the first of June not spring. It doesn’t take much to take a swiffer to the doors especially if you know you have guests arriving. I definitely would not recommend staying here.

This is a peaceful, quaint, unique location with plenty of deck space. The rooms each have a shower, sink and toilet. I would recommend renting all 4 rooms to feel like you are living on your own boat. The hostess is charming. The river views are amazing.

Covington Inn is a very special and unique place! Recently had an opportunity to visit and enjoyed every minute. Located on a boat on the Mississippi River in St. Paul, the management truly understands the meaning of hospitality at a deep level. I was especially impressed by the great room--complete with fireplace--which exudes charm and comfort. You can't go wrong with Covington--a hidden gem.

Honestly, I can't recommend this place enough. The boat provides an intimate experience of the Mississippi. The boat itself is cozy and has a great view of St. Paul skyline. The host's hospitality is welcoming, made me feel right at home the moment I stepped aboard. A true hidden gem!

The Saint Paul Winter Carnival and the Covington Inn are a perfect combo. And definitely book two nights, not just one. Expect a very laid-back look and feel, almost a youth hostel vibe, except for the very private, unique rooms, and flavorful breakfasts . We had read from another review that drinking water is from the tap, so we brought our own. No problem for us.Rooms: We stayed in the Master's Suite on our wedding night back in 2001 and have returned to that room a couple three more times, since. You do have to get up a spiral staircase, so you must be ok with steps. Once in the room, there are no steps to the main deck/patio - just open the room's exterior door for direct access. We love having coffee out there. Cozy gas fireplace, comfortable bed, (not too cushy, and lots of pillows to choose from.) The bathroom is what you'd expect--very tight, funky quarters. The shower tile and fixtures looked new. Water was hot. The shower head was big and adjustable. Very nice.Nearby activities: Saint Paul Winter Carnival was our reason for coming to downtown Saint Paul in January. We enjoyed the walk to the ice sculpture contest in Rice Park very much. There are great eating choices downtown, as well, not to mention NHL hockey, concerts, museums, theatre. According to Google Maps, all of these were a 20-to-30-minute walk on foot from the Covington, which we found to be true.Walkability: Easy access dock ramps to the boat. Harriet Island is full of paved trails for daytime walks. The grand Wabasha Bridge is a 10-minute walk away, when you take the levee trail on the opposite side of the park. Raspberry Island, located below the Wabasha Bridge and home to a boat club, is a 5-minute walk from the inn. You can drive there, as well, for two-hour parking, and take the steps up to the bridge deck on either side of the bridge, from there.

Wow! What an incredible experience this was! I’m not sure where to begin so I’ll start be mentioning that I have traveled all over and not many of my stays were ever this accommodating. The innkeeper and her puppy were a delight! (She’s the one laying down)They immediately took to my boy and that made our stay feel just like home. The rooms were very clean and the bed’s incredibly comfortable, we had little local toffees laid out on our tables with our breakfast, the coffee was strong and very needed before heading out to the cities, the French toast and savory strudels were delicious. The innkeeper Calah was very knowledgeable on some of the best food spots nearby and in Minneapolis. Overall this stay was everything we didn’t know we needed and more. Thank you Calah for this and we will definitely be back!! This inn is a hidden gem in the city and I truly can’t say I’ve experienced anything like it anywhere else.
