Rented a unit online and was charged 50 dollars. Turns out I couldn't access the property on Sunday which was the only day I had available to move, had to use another storage facility. Storage mart refused to give a refund of my money.

They will raise your rate after 3 months and every year after. Do not recommend. Rent from iStorage instead.
The contract clearly states that if you pay 3 days before rent is due on the 3rd of the month, you will continue to pay the "preferred customer rate" which is the rate they advertise on the website. But hidden in the legalize is that if they send you a notice before your bill is due, after 3 months, you no longer have access to the "preferred customer" rate. When I called to ask about it, they told me the rate increases at the 3rd month, and every year. Which is not clearly stated with the payment information.
I have access to lawyer consultation through work, so I had them look over the contract. He agreed that it was clear I should be paying the "preferred customer" rate, not the increased rate. Below is the photo of the letter the lawyer sent and Storage Marts response. The lawyer read the documents and said it was technically true that if they send you notice they can increase their rate. But also said with the payment clause in the contract, that should be honored. But since we are forced to sign for arbitration, he suggested I just find a new storage unit company. So I am driving slightly farther to get the same rate as the "preferred rate" from a company who I've worked with before, and they never once raised my rate after a year and a half of using them. Shout out to iStorage, who will have my service exclusively after this horrible experience.

I made a reservation for the 5x10 unit through the reservation line for the excelsior location in Hopkins Minnesota in September Showed up and checked in and confirmed that I was being charged a proration for the first mo. And the next month, October, would be free. I also put in for automatic payments. September 30 I was charged for the month. I then called the location in Hopkins and they said they couldn't verify that I was to receive a free month. I explained it again and they wouldn't credit me for the month. Told me it wasn't noted on my account. As if I had access to verfy what the representative was doing. Take this as a WARNING when dealing with them. NOW I WILL GO THROUGH MY CREDIT CARD.
THE RESERVATION REPRESENTATIVE ALSO DID NOT DISCLOSE THAT I HAD TO CARRY MY OWN INSURANCE. THIS I JUST ACCEPTED WHEN MOVING IN.

The web advertises 24 hour access so I chose this place out of the hundreds of options in the Twin Cities area. I spoke with someone at their call center who informed me I’d have to speak with the manager and sign a special form. Then, AMY the manager rudely tells me when i go to sign in that they do not offer 25 access and that i will not be offered 24 HOUR ACCESS AS ADVERTISED??? They proceeded to charge $29 to cancel the reservation. I wasted 30 bucks because of false advertising.! I would give zero stars if there were an option! DO NOT RENT HERE!
