Great customer service!! The store was closed but the owner came in when I called. She was friendly and helpful (which is much appreciated in a day when good service is hard to find).

My Grandmother has been purchasing books for me since I was a kid. When I became an author, I stressed the importance of black bookstores. She stated that she wanted to support black bookstores, but at 83, she didn't know how to do online shopping. For months, I reached out to black bookstore, asking if they would take over the phone orders. They all said no but Detroit Book City. Detroit Book City accommodated my 83-year-old grandmother,took her order and payment over the phone and shipped the books to various locations. My grandmother and I both love Detroit City Books and only order our books from them!

I purchased books online and was very happy with the fast shipping speed and email updates to let me know where my order was at in the process. In addition the books I ordered, I received “extras” like a Black Panthers postcard, info sheet, and commemorative program. Those details added a personal touch and made my buying experience even more enjoyable. I will be ordering again.
