I literally cannot believe all of these terrible reviews. We booked the car online and showed up to the office. I kid you not, we were there for 5 minutes and then off in the rental car. I could truly not believe it because I know how long it normally takes to rent a car but the service was impeccable. She was also very friendly.

I was told by whoever answered the phone, "We don't rent trucks here sir." Maybe the truck should be taken out of your business name then.

On December 24, 2019, I arrived promptly at noon (my scheduled pick up time) to pick up the car I had reserved and for which I had prepaid. The door was locked. The representative opened the door and proceeded to explain that I should have arrived before noon because they were now closed and their systems were all locked down for the holiday. At no time was I made aware to arrive before my scheduled pick up time. Further, it takes at least ten to fifteen minutes to process the pick up (paperwork, etc.), so why would they close down the office at the pick up time? I insisted on them accommodating my reservation, but he flatly refused and said the staff had to get to home to their families for the holiday and that nothing to could be done at this location. He directed me 20 miles away to the airport, and gave me an 800 number to call. I called the 800 number and lodged a formal complaint from the parking lot of the Woodward Avenue location. The staff was still inside laughing and joking, while they were supposed to leaving to 'get home to their families'. I lodged an additional complaint in writing the same day and received a response from a representative that they could offer me one day's free rental if I provided them with my Fastbreak program member number. I emailed them back and told them I did not have such a number. I have yet to hear from the appropriate management as promised by the representative who first addressed my email. Stay away from Budget Rental, especially the Royal Oak location. Go to Enterprise up the street - excellent customer service!

Like others, I've had lots of trouble at this location. I was driven (so to speak) to Budget through its new partnership with Amazon. The discounts are often great, and there's a back-end benefit that you get 10% of the rental in the form of an Amazon credit. However, that's a trap. Each time I've rented here, they've either not honored the reservation or another problem has come up - like someone else said, stating that cars weren't available when I showed up for a pre-paid rental (and this was a lie, since they rented to people after I arrived, but I suspect with pricier rates). Corporate finally did straighten it out, but it was a huge time sink and the location had zero interest in being helpful in any way. Or, they've charged me for bogus stuff. I received an invoice for "dirty trunk" in the amount of $50. I assume this was because of bit of loose dirt was in the back of the hatch from a Home Depot trip. Nothing egregious - no one threw up in the car, or anything, just a little vacuum as part of the normal detail needed. Then they said it had been referred to "collections" when I had only just received the invoice because they weren't able to bill it without notice to my credit card for some reason (though I'm glad and would have challenged it). I've been renting cars and moving trucks for like 30 years, and have never once been charged for anything of any kind before now, but this location has had a problem every time. As a result, I never actually received a discount as a result of the Amazon partnership, which I'm sure is the point - they leverage Amazon to get people there, and then use these tricks to ensure they don't actually provide a discount. I used Hertz regularly before, because their partner rates can be decent. I will go back.

The only reason I didn't give a zero star rating (or if negative numbers were an option, I'd gladly give that), is because "one star" is the lowest option Yelp allows. First off...the rental office was CLOSED on the scheduled day (March 30th) to pick up our PRE-PAID, reserved vehicle. We were told upon returning that the franchise owner walked away from the business. After an hour run around with "customer service" on the phone, they "re-routed" our reservation to the Detroit Metro Airport location an hour away from our home. After a - close to 2 hour wait in line, and 4 hours after we had planned to be on the road to my husband's parents- we left. Before we were scheduled to return the vehicle- as compensation, we requested that we, at least be able to return it to the original location in Royal Oak. The customer service rep, agreed over the phone and had given us a case number. We made the mistake of trying to extend the rental time (because we'd lost so much time for our departure) and as you might imagine it compounded the litany of problems from a company that has absolutely zero customer service and retention ability, NO continuity of communication and a frankly cavalier attitude towards their own errors. There was no record of the extension request and we were quoted an additional $250 by the rep that was "filling in", at the time.

If I could zero stars I would. First of all the lady is rude, frustrated and not helpful at all. We were allowed to rent and pay for a truck online and get here to pick it up and they have NO trucks!!' She said call budget, I can't help you. She said I would never rent from Budget their system sucks! Wow. Really, this is their representative? Believe me, we would rent from Avis or budget st this point.

I booked a truck and got the confirmation. when I went to Royal Oak office on 3/3/2018, I was told there is no truck. The attendant made some calls through intercom and told me to go to Birmingham office to get the truck. When I got there, the office had no body there and door was locked, even though it supposed open 30 minutes ago. I had to call U-Haul to get my truck. It is absolutely horrible experience. I will never deal with them again.

Reserved a truck about a week ahead of time. The night before they called me and told me that they won't have a truck for me in the morning after all... Then THEY CHARGE ME A $50 NO SHOW FEE!!! Don't bother with them.

The WORST! This location is super convenient for me, so even after they messed up a rental for me a few months ago I decided to try again. Made a reservation for a moving truck a week ahead of time, only to get a call the NIGHT before that they don't have anything for me and can't do anything about it. Isn't that the ENTIRE POINT of making a reservation????!???? Never again. Avoid this place at all costs. (PS bonus to the Uhaul on 11 mile for getting me a truck at 6pm Saturday)

Horrible! Had a moving truck reserved for 10am. Got there and they said they gave it to some guy at 8am! I made the reservation 6 days ago. No other locations had trucks available either. Will never use budget again. We got a uhaul instead... at uhaul they actually set your truck aside and don't let anyone take it when you reserve it. if they try to charge me a cancellation fee, I'm disputing the charge through the credit card company. Bbb report will follow as well.
