“4 of my pets have been here over the years. Most recently my dog had an ear hematoma. Her regular vet would not see her in a timely manner so I decided to come here. They fixed her up and had us on our way in a few hours. Pretty expensive though.”
“We've been bringing our pups here for a few years.They've always provided good care to our pups. My last visit however, was an appointment for a 2nd dose of vaccines...where they charged unnecessary extra fees. My pup had a dental where they administered dose #1 and said to come back in 3 weeks for dose #2. I asked if it would cost additional, and was told I'd only have to pay for the vaccine cost. Come to find out they charged me for the 2nd vaccine AND an additional exam fee. When I asked the front lady why I was being charged an exam fee... the lady said matter of factly, "well the vet has to exam your dog to make sure they can administer the dose." I waited 45 minutes, then the vet spent 5 minutes looking at my dogs ears and listening to her heart before administering the dose. I can understand if I asked for an exam and they suggested vaccines. But this visit was specifically made as a followup vaccine visit. It's a bit unreal that the exam fee (which costs 1.5 more than the vaccine itself) is charged. We love this veterinary practice and the care they provide. But the fees and extra charges are becoming a bit much and unreasonable.”

“Dr Syde , is always about your pet, not how much $$$ to make off your pets illness, my dog sprained his leg.. I knew this vet visit will include office visit, X-ray, meds etc.... Dr Syde , felt his leg and and because of his experience and wisdom he knew there was no X-ray needed, rest and a couple of pills for relaxation… any other vet looking to make a buck would do an X-ray just because.. in two days my dog was back to running and and happy … you might have to wait a bit in the waiting room .. but it’s because he gives his full attention to every pet that comes in. It’s worth it !”

The front office staff reached out to let me know when they received the records from my former vet, and were always very professional and friendly. We were welcomed and shown into a room immediately, and our vet tech was wonderful. Our cat is a big old scaredy cat, so we really appreciated how kind and gentle both the vet tech and Dr. Tate were, and that they were even nice enough to wrap our cat in a blanket they misted in calming pheromones. One reason we left our last vet was because they kept trying to sell us on every test and unnecessary thing our cat didn't actually need. So, I was really grateful Dr. Tate did a great exam, told us possible tests (i.e. blood work options) and then let us make our decision without judgement. We're so grateful we found Dr. Tate!”

“My new resue GSD did not like the first vet I found (he growled and had to be muzzled when I took him there). The 2nd Vet I took him to was older, and is very respected in Detroit, but he has horrible wait times, and does not really keep good records. My dog loved him and behaved PERFECTLY, but then my dog became sick, and the 4+ hour wait time each visit, plus the low/no real record keeping made it hard for me to keep up with his "treatments", and time wise, I just could NOT continue to wait for HOURS for no diagnosis. One of my neighbors recommended West Woodward, and I was able to get an appt within a week or so, and although Dr. John could not get records from my previous vet (nor could I), he made some recommendations and tried some treatments, and then figured out that my dog probably had EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insuffiency), a rare condition. The test was expensive, but not as expensive as some of the other test/guesses from the previous vet, and EPI is what my dog has. The treatment is simple, my dog LOVES the entire staff, and I truly appreciate the way the staff treats me and my dog. They are sensitive to pricing, and try to get me more economical pricing, and they love my dog. They are near my home, but even if I had to drive for an hour each way, I would continue to take my dog there. I really appreciate the staff, and the Doctors at West Woodward and will recommend them to EVERYONE I meet.”

We found ourselves in quite the predicament with a random cat, who wandered into our home, obviously missing her family. We called local veterinarian offices that happen to be closed on Wednesdays and then animal control in Hazel Park was unavailable. This office stepped up to the plate and helped me get this kitty scanned for a microchip! They even got me a cardboard carrier, so she just wasn’t a free range kitty in my car. Luckily, this beautiful cat was micro chipped and because of the effort this veterinarian team put in, we were able to reunite this cat with her mother.
