Initially upon 1st visit was very happy with overall service & doctor. Staff was a little stuffy, but so be it.
However, a year later I received an appointment reminder in the mail that FENTON VISION CENTER set for me one year from the date of my last appointment. Ok cool! I went in on the day and time of the appointment that I was given only to find out they had given my appointment away. WHAT??? Needless to say I was very frustrated!
When I got there on the designated day/time I was told that they tried to confirm my appointment, but couldn’t get ahold of me. I DID however call to confirm the appointment AND update my contact information after receiving a letter in the mail. The receptionist then tried to gaslight me & made it seem as if it was my fault that they gave my appointment away because THEY were using my old contact information (after I already updated my information) and couldn’t get ahold of me. I was very patient and understanding as I know miscommunications happen. We’re all human. I can’t however be as patient & understanding when I’m the one being blamed for an error on their side. Anyways, we WILL NOT be going back due to snottiness and condescending attitude of receptionist!!! Fenton Vision Center your front of house is the first face & impression of what a client sees and I can only hope that this miscommunication can be a learning lesson to strengthen staff/ client communications. Also, please know that my time is just as valuable and important as yours! I think some front of office professional development would greatly benefit your client communications. Please do better!!!

I have been a patient at Fenton Vision Center for over a decade and have always found the office to be inviting and the staff to be compassionate, helpful, and efficient.
Recently I worked with Dr. Alvarado and tried the GVSS correction system. Though GVSS didn’t end up being the right fit for me personally it gave me an opportunity to see the true character, passion and knowledge of Dr. Alvarado. I am very demanding of my vision and tried to push my prescription to rush the process. Dr. Alvarado patiently educated me every step of the way, was non-judgemental of my “pickiness” and invested time and energy to get me to a personalized solution. He is a true healthcare practitioner who has mastered his craft and sees every patient as a unique individual with unique needs. What a rarity that is in today’s world!
Thank you!!!

**update 01/02/2024** After writing the Better Business Bureau over the fact that Fenton Vision Center tried to charge me a warrantee replacement fee to replace the low quality glasses that clearly had manufacturer defects it turns out FVC decided to not respond. The doctor there is as shady as his staff.
I went in because a pair of glasses I paid 140.00 for back in June were falling apart already and needed repair. It was clearly a defect of the factory as the tortoiseshell arms were literally bubbling up and peeling off as well as the glue degrading from holding the arms of the glasses on. I go in and get told it's going to cost me 20.00 to have glasses I just bought fixed after nothing but normal use. The person behind the desk then has to gull to say that she doesn't know what I've been doing with my glasses so there's no way to tell if it was shoddy factory work or something I did wrong and that's why I'd have to pay the warrantee fee. I told her she just lost a customer. The doctor at this location needs to hire friendlier staff who don't say stupid things and he or she also needs to cover glasses repairs that need to be done within a year of purchase. It's ridiculous to charge the customer extra for selling them a low quality pair of glasses to begin with. Goodbye Fenton Vision Center. I hope your staff learns how to treat people going forward.

Dr Juan Alvarado is the best optometrist I have ever been. I am 62 and have worn glasses since I was 6. He was the first Dr to see within 2 seconds that I had an eye disease called Fuchs Dystrophy. He said that is in the cornea, the first part of the eye that any Dr would have to look through to do any exam, but nobody had seen it. I was going to Michigan Eye Institute on Linden Rd for ongoing eye problems andthey only said I had dry eye. The other big eye center on Gateway Center off Hill Rd Flint evaluated me for cataracts and didn't say anything. Dr Alvarado sent me right to Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor. If I had cataract surgery it would have deteriorated the cornea where I would have had to have cornea transplant immediately. Do yourself a favor and just see Dr Juan Alvarado at Fenton Vision.

Contrary to what a few reviews say, you do NOT get your measurements or PD from this office. They tell you “it’s against office policy” which is ridiculous. The only way you will get that information is if you buy glasses or contacts through them. I’ve never in the past 25 years of going to an eye doctor had them not tell me all of the information pertaining to my eye exam or for when I want to order glasses/ contacts on my own. Also, I booked this appointment a month and a half in advance. Do yourself a favor, and never get an eye exam done here. They’re a rip off!

Don’t recommend this place at all. Never in my 20 years of wearing glasses have I ever had a place not give me my prescription details so I can order a pair of glasses online, that they don’t carry. They force you to buy from their limited selection. So keep this in mind if you want to go there, you HAVE to order from them. Doesn’t seem fair and should be disclosed before paying for an exam.

They care more about money grabbing from their patients than their patients well being and feeling comfortable in what they have to wear to see.

I would recommend him and his staff 100 times over. Even had my granddaughter with me at one of my visits and he took the time to introduce himself to her and even have aittle conversation. Fantastic people.

I would highly recommend Fenton Vision Center. My husband and I had appointments together, we had our eye exams, chose our new glasses and were out the door in just over an hour!! The staff is wonderful, I am so happy that I found this eye doctor!!

Extremely inadequate comprehensive yearly exam. Dirty and unorganized office, unpleasant staff, and unaware DR.

It woulda been my first time there. I parked and the sign said entrance in rear take elevator. So I waited and then called. She said oh, you can walk the stairs or I can send the elevator. I said well, I'm at the elevator now. She says ok and a few minutes the elevator comes down. I get inside and the buttons don't work so I wait a few thinking maybe it has to reset. 10 minutes then 12 and nothing. I was so filled with anxiety being like a caged animal. I said never again and I left. Called and cancelled. I would not recommend anyone go thru this
