The parking lot is horrible. The landscaping looks terrible. It's overgrown and unkept. The dining room is dirty. The uniforms are dirty on the staff. The food is cold typically. I used to be a huge fan but over the past 6 years it's gone downhill. And fast. The Battle Creek location building is in need of repairs and paint. The interior and cafe is in need of a remodel. The parking lot needs to be top milled and repaved. The building needs to be painted.

Literally nothing in the restaurant worked except the toilet.The order machines hang and freeze and there are no staff to help.The pop machine doesn't work unless you scan some bar code which you'd have no idea you need to keep on your receipt.My burger came out with none of the toppings I ordered.The cheese fries are just fries with 2 cups of cold nacho cheese tossed on the tray.The milkshakes come with a tiny straw which is hard to drink though, no way you could finish a dine in milkshake in under an hour.Will definitely visit again because we were laughing so hard about how spectacularly everything failed

Never left a burger joint HUNGRY and unsatisfied until this experience today. After placing my $10 each , party of 3 order (total $30 bucks) for lunch , I was given a scu stub to fill my soft drinks orders. The scu ticket operates the on/off function at the fountain but fails to fill your cup to the top and you get zero refills unless you ask for service at the counter. Upon opening the burgers that were served , I was appalled to see ONE shaved thin slice of meat that was SUPPOSED to be our steak burgers sitting atop of what appeared to be cheese ! The shoestring fries were as thin as toothpicks and very dry as well . As we ate our bread sandwiches (because the meat barely covered the bun) I noticed that only ONE other customer was in the establishment waiting on his order . That’s when I realized with food this lousy for a fast food franchise this popular on a Monday afternoon, the food on the daily must be down right lousy! Save your ten bucks and make your own burger and fries at home OR head over to Burger King and you can have it your way , it certainly beats Steak and Shake in Battle Creek , Michigan. Two stars is really being kind ! Touche’

The new system that has been implemented is awful. Eliminating free refills and any form of customer service. The kiosk system has the audacity to ask you to tip the staff. I will not be returning to Steak and Shake and look forward to hearing of their demise.

This is so sad. Steak and shake used to be a favorite, and we will not be back. First experience when you walk in is silence from the staff. The manager was up front cooking and didn't even acknowledge we'd walked in looking confused. There are no menus and no one to take your order. Instead, self order kiosks. It took us a solid 10 minutes to order on our own because we didn't know what we wanted to eat before we got there. It was painful.Then, they print out the receipt and some bar codes. No direction at all. You apparently have to take your ticket to a scanner to unlock the pop machine. Be careful that you don't accidentally scan it too many times because there is a limit. We had to go find someone else to fix it because it wouldn't release the pop. It was so frustrating for everyone!Cheese fries came out with cold cheese in cups. They don't put cheese on top anymore, even though it shows it on the pictures on the kiosk. Corporate won't let them do it anymore. They call your name, and you go up to get your food, then clean up after yourself, and the kiosk still asked for a tip when checking out.The experience was pretty awful. The food was acceptability mediocre, to be expected, I guess, but the whole experience left me very sad. This is exactly why we have stayed away from corporate chains. It is a good reminder to support small.business where you are a person, not a dollar sign, and the people there actually care.

The drink machine is now more challenging with the scan code lock. Very little staff so you have to wait if you need help. Not customer service

It was a real bad experience I went to the one on Bee Drive North and 6 Mile Road in Battle Creek Michigan we walked in they had a place where you had to order the food at the cash register and then they would call you when it was ready they had no waiters or waitresses there like it used to be when you dined in I would not go back to this Steak and Shake again because of the atmosphere was really bad they only had like three people working and they were behind the where they prepare the food this is really a bad situation and it doesn't look good for Steak and Shake

For my first time at a Steak-N-Shake, it was very good. Love the burger and fries and the Candy Cane with chocolate chip Shake. Will visit again at any location. 10+

Food is still good. But horribly run since putting kiosks up. Completely destroyed the friendly atmosphere it used to have when they had more employees.
