Has gone from overpriced to trashy in a few short years. Elevators broken, barricades in place because of extensive shoplifting, poorly stocked...

Today, I was surprised to see THREE registers open for the first time in two years! Usually they only have one or two or no registers open, and they use the rest of the registers as storage and theft deterrents. On many occasions I come in to shop because I live in the neighborhood, the workers are very unfriendly. One employee (older woman, gray hair in the twists but also styled like a bob) is always looking angry, always scowling, always yelling at customers or giving them a bad attitude. On Saturday, I saw her yell at a woman who had paid but turned around because she dropped something. The rest of the staff look depressed all the time. The self checkout does not take cash. Myself and many others in the neighborhood do not want to stand behind someone for 20 minutes to purchase one item with cash. A store with self checkouts cannot function properly if the self checkout does not take cash, and there is no express lane for register. The security gates are terrible. They make the store feel cold, like a jail house, and the staff and security are like the prison guards (and yes, they act like prison guards). No respectable person wants to shop at a place that treats them like a criminal thief. The reason why the Giant across the the street is able to deter theft is because they do not do so at the expense of their customers comfort. They still welcome people.I’m very sad that nothing is being done at this Safeway. Opening a third register is a great start, but unfortunately, this store lacks soul, and people don’t like shopping at stores that feel like jails.

Ordered a pickup order on the app. Arrived at the scheduled time. Used the app to notify the store I was there. I waited for thirty minutes before attempting to call. No one answered the phone. I went into the store and no one was even staffing the service desk. Never got my groceries. You absolutely can’t rely on this Safeway for anything.

This location has gone downhill, especially imposing restrictions on where you can walk among the store, and deciding at random when you have to show your receipt to leave after making a purchase. There’s a Costco up the street, go there or go to the Giant where they enforce loss prevention strategies without alienating their regular customers.

Is this store closing? It seems to me that corporate does not care about this location at all. Spoiled food on shelves or not stocked at all. No registers open or when they are open there are not enough cashiers to handle the lines. When cashiers are there they are YELLING at customers. Lack of courteous employees except for the bakery, produce department and the deli. Gates to enter and exit the store. Rude security on site. Not everyone is a criminal or a criminal in training and your mission as a neighborhood grocery store is not accurate. We already have 7 Locks in Montgomery county and downtown Silver Spring Safeway (Thayer Ave) is way more welcoming and checks all the positive boxes on a list for how a store should be managed. I am not sure who is running this particular Safeway but they need to FIRE themselves for the egregious and reprehensible manor that this store has been mismanaged. DO NOT SHOP here. Go to the competitors in the area instead.

I have never had a positive experience at this Safeway. It’s never fully stocked with essentials like certain produce, eggs, or hygiene products. Carts are always scattered, and they’re severely understaffed, so getting any good help from anyone at any point during the day is impossible. Even perishables like meats and bread are left on the shelves and in the fridge so long, they’re molding and rotten. I have some pictures that were taken just today 10/29/23 at 8:30am, barely two hours after the store opened, showing grey rotten and bloated breakfast meats pulled right off the shelf. This store needs a serious overhaul. It’s disgusting that so many people live in this area and rely on the Safeway as their primary grocery store, but are subjected to this kind of poor quality EVERYTHING.

Cedric the store manager lacks knowledge that ADA law permits service animals in stores and they are NOT required to wear a service vest. Per Cedric on 10/17/23 he does not care...SHOCKING...Safeway Corp office acknowledge ADA laws. But I should have know, a place that sells meats looking like this; leave cold deli food out overnight with a this cover on top, would have a less than knowledgeable store manager.

I came in this morning right when the store opened to pick up cat food. I grabbed what I needed and proceeded to checkout where I seen about 4-5 other people standing as well looking lost. When I looked up and noticed the self checkout was not open and neither were the registers or any sales associate in sight I looked down the aisle and seen someone stocking the shelves and she noticed us and asked if there was no cashier at front? We all replied no another gentleman replied I can check myself out if you can turn the self checkout on..?She walked around the store looking and asking for a cashier. I spotted a lights skin Spanish woman with blond curly hair and a black sweater on coming up the elevator. I walked towards her and said “good morning are there any cashier to check us out?” She turned and pointed her finger at me demanding me to “Wait” as if I was a child or had did something wrong to her.I had been stopping myself from writing a review in this store however this was it. It’s 2 early to be that upset in the morning because you don’t have your store up and running when you open your doors at 7am.The level of customer service has reached to disrespect now. I’ve also placed to online orders and when I came to pick them up on those days I was asked to get a cart to put my groceries in they shopped for for my online order. Not to mention there are never any cart in the store. If you walk in from the front of the store on Georgia Avenue and you go over to get a cart there are never any. When asked where are the carts? I’m simply told “they are all downstairs” (assuming in the garage) “You may go down and get one” Is there not someone working at this location to collect the cart from the garage and bring them upstairs? Do we as customers have to go down to the parking lot and collect a cart for us to shop in Safeway? Is that something new that you all have started doing?I’ve also have come into the store and noticed that self checkout never has a person at self checkout to fix any issues at self checkout. I have had to take my whole order to another self checkout because I didn’t have the time to keep waiting for someone to come to self checkout. They usually have the person that is running self checkout run the information counter as well and when they have a customer there no one pays attention to self checkout. Or they will scream amongst each other to the cashier at the only register ever at open to go to self checkout and fix it. Taking service away from whoever was at the register.Security guards look as if the have came out of the ghetto and don’t do anything but sit in their phones and converse with the youngsters that are staffed there.I have came to the deli to order a deli sandwich and have encounter no being there several times and would have to get the security guard that is sitting in the counter of the deli (not sure if that part of his job) to find someone to come to the deli.I have so many negative issues with this select of people that you have chosen to run this store and I think maybe corporate should come in here lain clothes to view how the store is run on a daily basis. With the lack of customer service in this store and the homeless that make it even uncomfortable to walk in because they are laid out front of the store or sitting at all the tables of Safeway where us as customers could be eating our deli sandwiches… It’s heartbreaking to see this in Montgomery County!

One of the worst Safeways I've been to in the area. It's difficult to get into and out of given the parking garage and escalators with carts. We ended up leaving after the produce section was horribly under stocked and had nothing we needed - including things as simple as lemons and spinach.

The amenities at this store are very good: a bakery, a florist, a pharmacist, cold cuts and hot takes... but the store feels "meh" despite the fancy EV charging stationsI was also dissapointed because, when I went to check out, there were fireworks offered as an impulse by at the self-checkouts... and I impulsively grabbed some. When I went to check out, I discovered that they were age-restricted and there was nobody available to verify my age. I ended up not getting the fireworks. And bybthe time I left, 2 of the 4 self checkouts were locked-out due to age verification (and nobody being available to verify my age).

This Safeway had so much going for it when it first opened. Now it's a disaster. Finding expired items on the shelves is common, the meat selection is sad, register prices don't match posted prices, and the common items are frequently unavailable. I don't even go here for a quick one item purchase, I drive further away just to avoid this store.
