I was surprised to see so many poor reviews for Highland and noticed most of the reviews are quite old. I have been taking my dog to Highland for many years now and they have been wonderful with him. Now he's old and a little cranky and has skin issues, but they are great with him and he always comes home after a grooming looking fresh and adorable. Walter at the front desk is always great, and they are very organized and efficient. Been very pleased with them.

Really great place. Communicate well with owners. The groomers do an amazing job and they work hard to get you an appointment with your groomer of choice. My dog still comes home very thirsty but it's clearly her anxiety of the dryers. Pricing is very reasonable.

Definitely the place to go if you have an English Bulldog! Walter made sure to take great care of our bulldogs and they have never looked and smelled cleaner! Reasonable price as well for all of the services they did!

They kept shaving my dog and there were bald spots. Not necessary. I switched her to Janneths and no issues! She was never happy when she left Highland. She is happy and smiling when she leaves Janneths! I wouldn’t take another animal to Highland.

They were highly recommended by several neighbors. Had a great experience. My 9 month old bichon, Joy, looked amazing. Caitlin understood exactly what type of cut I wanted. Walter, the owner, was professional and thorough. Couldn't wait to reschedule to maintain my spot!

If I could rate it a zero I would. My beautiful 6 year old multigenerational Australian Labradoodle now has less hair on him now than he had when he was born. His normal groomer has been closed due to coronavirus and he hadn't been groomed since February so I thought I would try a new groomer. They didn't even try to get any of his mats out. They just shaved him down completely--even his face that was not matted and his formerly fluffy tail have zero fur on it. During this pandemic, I bathed him weekly and and tried to brush him as well as I could. They put no effort into trying to preserve his facial hair or tail hair. He looks like a totally different dog. His normal groomer would've taken the time to cut his mats out properly and save his facial hair and tail. I've taken my dog to approximately 8 or 9 different groomers over his six years and I've never had such a horrible experience. You'd think with a new customer this groomer would take their time and cut him right in order to gain a repeat customer. Instead they rushed him and shaved him completely down-head to tail. I'm not posting a photo because I'm so humiliated. Never ever again will I go to this place. Icing on the cake--one of the employees was smoking when I picked him up and her smoke was blowing in my face. Horrible experience.

Highland always takes such good care of our little mixed terrier, Gimli. He's now eager to run inside when we pull into the parking lot and always so cute when they finish. They even give him, what we call, a "superman curl" on the top of his head!

Maybe our groomer was different than other reviewers have experienced.. Early in the summer we took our 25 lb Cavichon for grooming. She was terribly matted so I understood the need to shave her down. Given that experience, I combed and conditioned her regularly. I must say that when she grows in, her fur is thick and unruly....and we do let her fur grow because she's so darn cute. I have professional clippers and could groom her myself but am challenged by her fury face. My husband recently dropped her off at Highland Groomery and specified a trim. She came back shaved almost to bare skin....even her tail and back of her legs. No feathering left....and it's winter! My opinion is this is either an inexperienced groomer...or a lazy one. As mentioned, I have professional clippers and anyone can shave a dog. I was paying for experience and paid more for our dog to be shaved bare than I pay a stylist to do my own hair. On the positive side, Ginger does seem happy to go there, and is not in the least traumatized by the experience....unlike me! May I add a bit of humor....she looks naked and our male Cavalier is now "in lust" with her.

We have been taking all of our dogs here for the past eight years! They have always done a fantastic job with our dogs. Very friendly and very professional. They really enjoy their job and the dogs that go there. Very helpful and do a great grooming job! Our black lab is terrified to go anywhere but when we tell him it's time to go get a bath he hops right in the car with no problems! Our Husky goes crazy when he knows he's going to get a bath. All of our little dogs love going as well. Love this place!!

I grew up in Howard County and took my dog here for over a year on a recommendation from a friend. My dog is a cocker and I took him here aporoximately 9 times. Although the staff is friendly, they are overpriced and my dog consistently comes out uneven and basically non-professionally groomed. After the third time of saying something and being very upset, they offered to give the service at no charge. The dog is so visibly uneven that even the receptionist acknowledged. I won't be returning or referring anyone here. Another time his nail was cut down to the quick. I could do a better job at home. Very dissatisfied customer.

Took my dog here recently to be groomed. He is a large dog with very long hair, and we are coming into the cold winter months. Our normal groomer was not available, and she lives quite far away, so we figured taking him here would be a great solution... boy were we wrong. He came back half shaved with wavy lines down 1 side and not the other. He had chunks of hair taken out in random sections from both his chest and hind legs, and cuts and lesions all over his paws. Ever since he's had trouble walking and limps around. We contacted the owner asking for some sort of compensation... Usually, I am not one to complain about service, as I work in customer service and I understand what it's like to have cranky customers, however, we were greeted with no sort of apology or even recognition of something gone wrong. They claimed we let him go too long without being groomed, and that he was too matted, which is understandable given we should take him to get trimmed up sooner. Even though this is true, we still brush him out occasionally, which takes time but is definitely in no way impossible. Overall, the management here is not great and did an awful job.

I took my 10 yr old Great Pyrenees to Highland Groomery before Thanksgiving to get bathed, brushed and trimmed. They did a horrible job. I would have given a 0 but that was not an option. My dog was matted at his rear, under the tail area. The groomer called once (although they said they talked to me several times, my phone has only one call from them) to discuss with me that she was having a hard time getting the mats out. I specifically told her not to shave him, but she did anyway. I could have accepted that she shaved the rump area and the underbelly. However, she also shaved the left side rear but left the right side long, making the cut very lopsided. There was also plugs of hair cut out where the hair was left longer. When I explained that I was not satisfied and wanted a refund, they naturally declined and stood by what their groomer did. They also said this was necessary and blamed me for him being matted. I do brush him often and I have used other groomers and have never had issues even when he is matted. Anyone knowing this breed, knows that you do not shave them with winter on the way. After picking him up, I noticed he was limping and not bearing weight on his right front leg. I mentioned this to Highland Groomery, and they explained that with all the pulling and cutting, that it was hard on the dog and probably hurt him. But they offered no apology. Needless to say, I will not be returning.

Horses come right up to the side yard of this little 4 bedroom guest cottage. You are in the middle of a huge horse farm. If you like that, and don'tcare about a modern or large room, this is a rare find.A little off the beaten track, but really just 5 minutes from main thoroughfare(Georgia Avenue), and the little town of Olney, with tons of stores, is just ten minute drive. Great, (mostly)safe part of Montgomery County.Problem with the rooms are they are pretty tiny, not modern in terms of much of anything, and dusty. Double bed, basically. Old bed linens. Bathroom in each room is very, very basic. No closet or storage space.Big spiders(my wife was freaked out all night).Rooms are about 150 sq.ft.No working tv(pre-digital, so pretty much snow), no internet, nothing that you would expect in this day and age.We found the food stuffs provided in the shared kitchen to be mostly past-expiration date quality -- some dangerously so.I think the owner needs to pay someone to come and clean and handlethe details(it seems like she does it herself, and she is well over 75 y.o.)All in all, kind of like 1960s style standards, so if you're not wanting that, you should look elsewhere.I found the Best Western Executive down in south Rockville (Rt 28 and 270 area) to be a great place to locate if you are visiting in the area. We got a two room suite there, with great ammentites, for about the same as this place. It's where I will go on all future trips.

We stayed here 6 years ago in April and found it to be very enjoyable. The owner was pleasant and the surroundings wonderful. Since she used to raise horses there are beautiful views of lush green fields, very relaxing. We are going back this year and my conversations with her have been congenial (we both have cats). The rooms (4) are in a separate bungalow from the house. There is a central sitting room/kitchen stocked with breakfast foods so we could eat when we liked rather than have a scheduled time. I would recommend Thoroughbred B&B to anyone who likes quiet country. There is no shopping within walking distance.

Last Friday (May 6th), I left a voicemail with this B&B to find out about reserving a room for the evening, not having any previous experience with bed & breakfasts and searching for an accessible but romantic location. Almost a week later, I received a responding message from the owner which I saved in my mailbox due to its rude tone of voice. Upon calling this older woman back, who would not give her name, to inquire as to why she'd leave such a rude-sounding message for a potential customer, she informed me bluntly that she found my recorded greeting to be 'ridiculous and foolish,' and said that 'I don't believe I want to meet you.' Then she hung up on me. In the several times I attempted to call back and get through to her, to get her name as the business owner, she either hung up on me or cackled loudly in my ear before hanging up on me. One time I called her back, she even answered the phone by saying, 'Boy, you're really stupid, aren't you?' If this is how she treats a total stranger and prospective customer, someone she hasn't even seen in person and has no direct experience with, then I'd hardly find this a suitable location to stay at even if I was desperate . I would advise anyone reading this to GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
