They are kind people who are there to benefit animals and the people who love them.

They wouldn't let me adopt a kitten. They are very Ridgid about indoor only cats. I think it's mean to a cat to keep it inside where I can't climb trees and catch mice and birds and squirrels and stuff which is there what they're made to do. They made me fill out the whole form answer a gazillion questions before they finally got to the point that if I was going to let the cat outdoors they wouldn't let me have oneRude. Inconsiderate of my time.

The shelter's owner is not attentive to details and seems to deliberately ask potential adopters provocative questions in order to prevent them from adopting a cat. I submitted an application for adoption for a cat with a precise indication of specific characteristics, and my application was approved. Five days later, when I asked them to give me the cat a few days earlier, my adoption application was denied with the explanation that this facility DOES NOT give away cats with these specific characteristics. I lost almost a whole week because of the lack of attention to detail by animal shelter owners. I hope these people are not as careless with their cats as they are not paying attention to the details of the application of potential adopters.

They are extremely caring and took in the cat we needed to rehome. They carefully screen all adopters and make sure their charges are well cared for and up to date on their medical needs. Truly a great organization. My vet recommends then highly as well.

What WONDERFUL people here at the Animal Welfare League and Hanna's Clinic! It is obvious that they really love the animals. So many thanks from me and my kitties.

I adopted the sweetest cat from the lovely folks at the Animal Welfare League. The volunteers and staff were all incredibly kind and welcoming and made the process simple and easy to follow. It was obvious to me the cats were loved and well cared for. I was able to get a lot of great information involving the cat's prior care and needs, and I would also say the folks at the Animal Welfare League did an excellent job in accurately describing the cat on the website prior to adoption. If you're thinking of adopting a cat, I couldn't recommend these folks enough!

My experience wasn't great, not because the volunteers aren't devoted to the cats but because they denied my application without a discussion. As a low income woman of color I am used to people defending policies that aren't "applied to everyone equally". People who donate money to them, trust them to come up with policies that work.I would still tell others to do their research before donating to them. The cat world tends to be privileged. They request sensitive information about your financial background and identity. The process can be intrusive. Some of my household members do not speak English (I also do not have their number), so I wasn't able to ask for their income information. But I would never ask anyone for this information. This level of proof is inappropriate. The cat volunteer atmosphere tends to have airs of exclusivity.I lost my home and job during covid like many people. Two of my cats had cancer. Due to the cost of cancer care and the devastation, I swore I would never rescue a cat again. But when my last landlord and roommate did not fix their pets, two of the cats gave birth to a litter of 11 kittens. My roommate entrusted her very young daughter to be the only care taker to 6 kittens. Her daughter was unable to get food or kitty litter and had to ask others to assist her. The kittens also developed a full 3 weeks behind normal litters and were kept in a garage in the winter. I spent the little I had helping my roommates daughter feed and raise the babies. When we moved, my cat who lost his leg to cancer and his brother to cancer, cried 8 hours a day. So when my former landlord offered to allow me to adopt one of the kittens, I said yes. My kitten started her heat cycles before I adopted her and was in heat immediately after bringing her home. She is likely pregnant now. This is why I was in urgent need of help.

So glad there is a place for me to re-home unopened food that my animals turn their nose up at. Lost a star for not having enough covered space to leave items that are upholstered. FYI - you can leave stuff after hours because no one is there during work hours to provide a receipt. This way you can avoid rush hour!

Please see *** at the end of my review!!!This makes me very sad to have to write this review . . . it makes me sad for the cats. However, I must share with the donating public my recent experience with AWL of Montgomery County and why I have removed them from my will (which included about $250,000 for AWL) and also, will not be putting them down as the beneficiary of my $500,000 retirement account.I reached out to AWL via their "contact us" three times in the past week and a half or two, letting them know the purpose was to update beneficiary information for my retirement account which I had recently learned did not have a beneficiary designated yet. I also called them and left a message asking them to call me and again, why I wanted to talk to them, and then I sent them a text, again stating the reason. I heard nothing from them so I went by the residence at 12 Park Avenue in Gaithersburg on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 2pm. There was no one there except the gardner. The gardner was very rude to me, walked away from me when I tried to ask him a question, would not establish eye contact with me, ignored me completely, went to his car, and drove away. He is the reason why I am not leaving anything to AWL. However, the fact that AWL ignored me each time I reached out to them did not help. To their credit, they did finally try to contact me but by the time they got around to it, my goodwill was destroyed.Needless to say, I feel sorry for the help my donation could have provided for the cats but now, my donations will be going to another animal charity organization who is more responsive to potential donors. Again, I feel very, very bad for the cats. The change in leadership at AWL of Montgomery County and the way they are handling the public and potential donors has deteriorated what I thought once was a reputable animal welfare organization. It is difficult for me to feel that way anymore about them.***In spite of my review, the cats/kittens they take care of need kind-hearted folks to adopt them and provide them with forever homes. The cats are NOT to blame for the failings of the leadership at AWL. They are merely innocent victims and should not suffer because of the incompetence of the current leadership. And the rude gardner.

Refused an application for an adoption based on a discriminatory policy. Landlords don’t get to decide who can have an emotional support animal. See the Fair Housing Act.

I've done a lot of feline wrangling since I was a kid, from volunteering at shelters and cat training for friends. When I say the folks at AWLMC understand cats, I mean it.
