I've been taking all my pets to Bayside Animal Hospital for many years. Drs. Spofford and Gosser have always been great with them and very caring when the time came to send them over the rainbow bridge. Dr. Spofford now cares for my cat, Amelia, who is not always nice to him, but he is always calm and understanding. She's a healthy girl (and mostly sweet)!

My dog loves it there. I don't have to struggle with him to go inside. He knows the will take care of him.

The only place I go to take care of my girls. They are awesome!! Been coming here for 28 years. The Doctors are great, caring, and very professional, and the staff is second to none. I would recommend anyone to trust them to care for your beloved pet!!

The positives: Bayside has a husband and wife team, both very knowledgeable and excellent vets. I've used their practice for many years. The downside: They need another vet there. There is a vet on premises Mon-Thurs, leaving 3 days without access to a vet. This creates a problem when you have an emergency or follow-up with an issue. I don't like being forced to take our pets so far away to seek emergency care; its expensive, its hard on our pets, and its a long way to go in an emergency. At one time, they had another vet there and was able to provide care for six days weekly and extended hours. I'm still hoping they will fix this. In the meantime, I'm still sticking with them because they have always taken good care of my fur babies, they are more affordable than other area vets, and they make a good team, from the vets, to the vet techs and reception!

For over 20 years, I used this staff for the care of my little dogs. I received excellent care, and was happy to have such a good care for them. The problem that ended this relationship was over MONEY. Mind you, all these years, of paying every single time, never missing an appointment or not paying what was requested, all for $28.00 as far as I can see, from the records I received when I was dismissed from this practice. I did phone a couple of times, but never received a response at all from anyone. I wrote a letter, and it, too, had no response.
On February 2024, I brought in my dog due to AN EAR INFECTION. not for a checkup, nor for shots, etc. For a PROBLEM. I paid in full $175.05 upon leaving. Two weeks later, I received a phone call stating that I had an outstanding balance of $28.00, for a fecal flotation. " Oh, we forgot to add it." Their mistake. Better customer service should have prevailed, at this point. I was never asked to bring a sample, as I assumed, I was coming for a specific purpose. It was NOT on my invoice, so I don't know if it was done or not. How would I know? It turned out that it was on their notes, and had been added without saying anything to me. It apparently was simply added to my bill. So I asked for this charge to be removed or waived. In May I came in to pick up Heartgard, and again was reminded of the $28.00. I asked " Please have someone to call me and explain why I still had this charge on my account", only for the gal to respond that the doctor says to come in and pick up her papers and "GO FIND ANOTHER VETERNARIAN."
I was simply stunned and appalled at such treatment. Upon reading the doctor's notes from each visit, it appeared to me, that they don't like for you to question them about any treatment, or medication, etc. That attitude likely emanated from explaining that I was living on a fixed income, but still wanted to receive good care, but only for the absolute necessary things. I think vets / doctors should accept that the patient is hiring them for the care and that we are, in a sense, the employer, who has that right to accept/deny any treatment or care. Just my opinion.
To this day, it still seems like a mystery that any vet would dismiss a good customer for such a slight amount, or if you question anything. So my thought is, to be careful and mindful of every visit as to what you say, as some of the notations that were made, in my situation, were incorrect. And to be sure you pay in full for each visit and ASK, if this bill is correct BEFORE you leave.
We all have a voice, that demands to be heard. not dismissed, when we feel the need. If there was another reason, it should have been explained, not ignored.
Still wishing the best to these vets. They were kind to me, in person and I appreciated that.

I took my seemingly well cat to this vet in December. He just needed an annual exam and a rabies vaccine. He died within 90 minutes of us returning home that day. While we were there, the vet indicated that because his belly was bald, as many overweight cats are, she wanted to do an anal gland expression. That part was not done in front of me but they took him to the back to do it. Apparently it was done quite aggressively, I later learned. I took my cat home and he was constantly licking at his hind quarters but I figured it was because of the anal gland expression. Within 90 minutes, he had a very quick and very traumatic experience and within a minute or two, he was gone. That was about a week before Christmas. I was told by the vet when I returned with my other cat the following week that she was sorry she did the anal gland expression, because if she had not, he would probably still be here. I was not reimbursed for any part of his exam including the anal gland expression which likely killed him. It seems like there may have been a perforation or something but we will never know. The vet offered to pay for an autopsy but I guess that wasn’t possible because I had taken his body to pets ER. I would not take a pet here for ANY reason. I am back to driving 40 minutes to go to a good vet that likely won’t kill my cat. Please stay away if you value your pet’s life.

While I can’t say our dog Quincy loves coming here :P, I can say I wholeheartedly recommend this vet practice! They always take such good care of our boy, whether it’s during his appointments or even occasional boarding! They’re always organized and communicative which I really appreciate. ?
