Our daughter's only ask for her 16th birthday was to come to New Orleans and go to the BK house and the convent across the street from it. We drove 3 hours to get here. We even planned our leave time around their tour times. The BK house was closed for a "private event" all day for two days solid without any notice posted anywhere on their website. We have already seen the Hermann-Grima and Gallier houses and had no interest in seeing them again. It completely ruined what was supposed to be her Sweet 16. It should be illegal to privately book out historical sites. It's certainly unethical to use money to hoard a building of public, local, and historical significance. It's even more unethical for them not to post prior notice for tourists and visitors, who are counting on it as part of their New Orleans experience during their limited time stays.

BK House was closed due to them cleaning up from a late night event the prior night. One of the staff members did let us in to tour the property ourselves. The staff was very friendly and its a cool house. A very distant ancestor of mine was married to the daughter of the man who had the house built so I was glad they let us come in and look around.

We had a great tour guide (I wish I could remember her name) and a small tour group, which really made the experience much better. The house and its history was fascinating, I highly recommend it. I saw reviews comparing it to the other old houses in NOLA, but honestly $10 for an entire hour was more than worth it. If you don't like history or architecture then don't go, if you do it's a must!

I've been here three times, and each time is better than the last. The NOUS Foundation has programs here and there are some classes you can take through the L'Union Française here as well.

Truly an interesting experience, offering a glimpse into how the wealthy used to live in New Orleans. For the ticket price you get a tour of the house, the tour guide was really amazing. She had all sorts of interesting facts and seemed really passionate about everything. Most people don’t visit these types of places while in NOLA but it’s really worth it!

My husband and I had our wedding at the BK House in April and it was a dream! The house and the grounds are beautiful. Annie and Courtney were invaluable during the whole process and were very professional and easy to communicate with. It was a destination wedding for us as well so that being said we couldn't have asked for better support. Courtney was extremely patient and kind with my hundred questions and had great suggestions for how the night would play out and the different vendors we hired. The venue was beautiful and we can't wait to come back to visit the house. Our guests had an amazing time dancing in the courtyard. Would highly recommend!

The BK Historic House and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark built in 1826 and restored to its present condition by renowned author Frances Parkinson Keyes beginning in 1948. It is an example of a raised Creole cottage and is lovingly cared for by the Keyes Foundation. Reasonable admission price, the tours start every hour on the hour. You are not allowed inside to wait more than 10-15 minutes before the tour begins, so be aware of that during the hot summer months. This is well worth the stop if you are in the area. It is located in the French Quarter, but off the beaten path.

We chanced upon this gem while taking a casual stroll in the by lanes of the French quarter when I peaked into the grate in the wall to see a beautiful garden. The sign showed that the hourly tour was starting in 2 minutes and we rushed in to get one. Luckily it was a small group of 4 and it felt like getting a very private touring experience. I am embarrassed that I forgot the name of our guide but she was so wonderful. It was evident that she loved her job being a massive fan of Ms Keyes. She spoke about her with so much admiration that it made the whole experience very heart warming.

I passed this place by chance when I was in a ghost tour group but very curious about another side of history as the house was different than actual architecture in French quarter.I visited the hour as the tour starts every hour. I dropped by earlier like 10 mins before 11am and bought a tour which was totally beyond the expectation. I had Caroline (not sure if I spelled her name right) as my guide. I was alone on the tour. Caroline was very informative and answered every question I had. The house had the long and impressive story. I was glad to hear that the house wss brought for preservation from being demolished. The tour was about an hour and it was totally worth it for $10.Highly recommended especially those who are interested in architecture and history of New Orleans.
