“Have been with the Wakarusa and 6th St branch for 8 years. Really was happy with People’s Bank, felt there was a real personal relationship with a bank. My relationship with them started with needing a mortgage and jumbo loan on our dream home that other banks were not willing to fund due to our atypical circumstances. The transition to Bank Midwest was easy for us, no complaints. We just moved to the west coast in June and Bank Midwest was pivotal in selling our home and purchasing our new home using a bridge loan. Thank you David Bennett and Brian Hatfield for making the bridge loan so smooth and convenient in our situation. When I was closing my accounts I had a sizable amount to me to transfer that I was worried about and Brian Hatfield made this transition smooth and easy. I would recommend this bank to anyone, especially if you get to work with Brian or David, they are both very professional, quick to respond, and personal in their approach. “Many in my family have used this bank for years. I love the reliability, the customer service, how the checking account and pretty much everything I normally use my account for is FREE. I'm still surprised some banks charge customers for simple banking actions. I also love how I have an option to donate funds to the Humane Society by using my card everyday. Also, this bank keeps up-to-date on security issues, like if my account info was part of a retail store hack, etc. This bank will send me an update and new card to keep me safe. Love First State Bank & Trust!”
“Still your same old Capitol Federal but with striking new digs, modern lobby, bit of hipness, free coffee counter and more. Darn, the place done grew up! So here's the thing about CapFed as it's called in this town. If you're new, coming to school here, etc. and are looking for checking, savings, loans, etc. ther are plenty of big chain mega banks like US Bank and the like that are also spread out across the U.S. If you're looking for something more personal and local, this is the place. Based in Topeka, they have branches there, here in Lawrence (and a number of ATMs) as well as Kansas City, Wichita, Salina, Manhattan, Emporia, etc. Still keep my personal checking here but for business needs I've opted for US Bank as they allow online connections via Quicken for easy processing. CapFed apparently has something so I've heard but you'd probably need to chat with the Topeka main location about it and not sure about the options. If I find out they have the same capabilities I may be moving my business banking here. Hmm, maybe someone there will see this and answer my question.”

“I needed help with several banking tasks and happened to be in Lawrence. I live in Topeka but was unable to address the issues there because of staffing (always too busy and not enough staff although they are very friendly there too). I stopped at the West Lawrence branch and a fantastic employee (wish I could remember his name) helped me very patiently with everything I needed done. He was friendly and thorough, and even though, the bank was ready to close, he took the time to finish everything I needed done. I was super impressed and appreciated the help tremendously!”

“I was recently the victim of fraud with my Commerce debit card. Somehow my Discover credit card was also involved. Some of the issues could be taken care of over the phone (it was the weekend when this happened), but others could not. I wasn't satisfied with the customer service I received from the Commerce representatives on the phone so I went to this branch because the manager, Christian, has been very helpful in the past. He spent over an hour and a half trying to help me untangle the mess caused by these fraudsters. He was patient as I explained my story and asked good questions for better understanding. When I left the branch I felt confident that the issue was resolved. Christian even sent an email later that day to follow up. When it turned out that two days later I was still locked out of my online banking, and I once again received poor customer service by calling the Commerce help line, I returned to this branch and Marilyn, assistant branch manager, was able to help with another issue. That still didn't resolve the issue so I had to return to the bank and this time Christian was able to finally resolve the issue. While I am generally not satisfied with the customer service when I call the help lines at Commerce, I am 100% satisfied with the managers at this branch. Five stars (and more) to my local branch managers. They know how to do customer service right.”
