“Bought at Brothers Food in Williamsburg and absolutely loved both the Queso and the salsa and well worth the price. I have a sensitive stomach and it did not bother me. Look forward to trying the medium flavor salsa.”
“Stringtown Grocery is a long time Staple in the Kalona area. A bulk shopping experience at which the products are nicely displayed, clearly organized, and VERY clean. There is a vast selection of the best of many things. Jams, pickles, spices, herbs, and extracts. Candy, nuts, and dried fruit, interesting teas. Locally baked breads, cookies and pies. Bulk natural peanut butter and fresh high quality olive oil. Noodles, varied flours for all baking needs, myriad diverse beans. Oatmeal, grits and granola. It goes on and on. Then duck into the cooler area for meat, produce, cheese and butter. In a lovely area just across the parking lot, there is a beautifully maintained and displayed gardening center. At this time of year (late April), there are many plants for vegetable gardens and bedding plants for flowers. I have been coming to this store for many years, having come to rely on it for stocking my pantry, plant some lovely flower pots, and find unique ingredients for creative cooking. Please be aware that there is a bit of road construction in this area as of April 2024. But honestly, where isn't there?”
“This is a good “scratch and dent” grocery store. Some items are expired so don’t forget to date check, but they are usually a good buy that can save you lots of money! I can usually get lots of things and a small amount of money! If you’re near by definitely check it out!”

122 E Ave, Kalona“The restaurant inside JW's Foods.I liked it. Practical set up. A gathering space for local guys it seems. I had a cheeseburger with ketchup; turned it into a combo with large fries and soft drink, had it to go. Good hamburger, hot, and crispy hot fries. They also have a typical deli case, and she had a small taco salad and liked it. Dessert was a $.75 cent cup of ice cream we bought after our main meal. No little wooden spoon with it. My combo meal was $10.15. Took about ten minutes to cook it up for me. The two staff working were friendly and helpful and doing the best they could. When we visit Kalona again, we will eat here. Restaurant is to the right when you enter the store. [10/22]”

121 5th St, Kalona“A true general store where you can get daily household or office items--like cleaners or notepads--as well as souvenirs and gifts. Also stocks made-in-store and locally produced foods like peanut butter, soup mixes, jams, spices, and candies. The Eatery cafe is open at noon with a limited sandwich menu. Friendly, helpful folk.”
“They had this pistachios icecream it was to die 4. Im an outsider 1st time in this store ever. When I walked in the cashier stared me down she could tell i was new. Then she gauked at me down the isle, like i was gonna steal something. It was a nice little store had a great selection of items. Had good sales. N somethings pricy. To be expected as a ma n pa store. I dont give bad ratings because im sure that would not have happened if i was a local. But im not. Maybe the cashier will read this and take constructive criticism. You catch more flies with honey then u do with vinegar. Smile be curtious to all customers.”
