I have stopped by at Merz before, and had a wonderful experience with the Dana, and this time around, I had a less than stellar experience due to being ignored by the folks working the fragrance counter.
Camilla and another employee (whose name I don’t know) were at the fragrance counter, and did not address me for around 15 minutes while they helped people who came after I did. When I say did not address, I mean they did not say hello, ask if I was looking for anything, or say they would be with me in a moment. The two associates looked at me, but did not register that I was a potential customer. I will say that I was the only visible POC at the fragrance area at this time, so it made the slight feel more pointed. I tried to get their attention but it wasn’t until a different employee came to the fragrance counter that things turned around for me.
Sophie made my experience worth it though, and she saw that no one had assisted me, and stepped in to help me find a fragrance. Thanks to Sophie’s help, I left with a wonderful new perfume. I want to say that the way I was treated by Camilla and the other fragrance person was a one off, since I’ve had other positive experiences at this location, but it seems that other customers of color have had similar experiences to the one I had on this day.
Chicago is a world class city, with folks from all over, and it would behoove the folks Merz to remember that and to be welcoming and serviceable to all customers.

It’s rather unfortunate that I have to write this review. My most current visit to this establishment was about a month ago. My 17 year old son and I were interested in purchasing a few things. My son headed to the colognes and I wanted to purchase foundation. There were three women chatting away. One even came by me. I was in the makeup section and she checked on her makeup. Neither of the three offered to assist us. The worst service I’ve ever received in my life. So, I went to Sephora where they took care of me and met my needs. My son and I left Sephora with a foundation and perfume for me and a cologne for my son. Never will I recommend this establishment to any of my family or friends. Maybe they need a little bit of diversity training as part of their customer service.

i don’t know what magical elixir is in the eucalyptus essential oil here, but it’s the best one i’ve ever had !!! such an awesome array of soaps, and the staff was very friendly.

I stood at the perfume counter twice yesterday waiting to be addressed and was ignored. Not even a “I’ll be right with you”. The woman that was servicing others yesterday afternoon on July 20th should be addressed by management that all customers should be addressed.

A great place to buy probiotics and supplements. Highly recommend Vs Amazon and other stores bc of the the care needed for probiotics (refrigeration)

Awesome place to get stuff like soap, lotion, skincare products, fragrances, vitamins, shaving products, shampoo/conditioner, beauty products, and more. Shopping here is great because the products they carry are all good quality. A friendly employee helped me find new shampoo and conditioner that I ended up really liking.

This is my favorite store of all time! I can only find products at Merz and very rarely anywhere else. Very informative and kind staff. All sorts of unique teas you didn't know you needed! So many herbs, vitamins, & supplements that have helped me with so many things from head to toe - all under one roof! And they've been there since 1875... that says a lot!

I often enjoy my visits at this apothecary. Even if I am just smelling the scents or enjoying the decor. But last week I am profoundly happy that I found something that I had been looking for. I need a lotion portable container and the ones I’d been finding did not satisfy my requirements. But here I found the GoToob and available as single item instead of a set. I’m so happy hehehe. I also found natural sea sponges, the large ones too. I’m conscious about carbon footprint so I’m glad these are available at my local shop as oppo to buying them online.

I visit this store regularly and it’s not the first time I asked for a product and they said they don’t have it when it actually the website shows the product on stock. Is there a way you guys can fix that? It’d be nice to know before I drive all the way there for no reason.
Another thing is that some fragrance products are not shown as the original product. I order a perfume sample and the image on their website shows a regular vial with a sprayer; I got a blister looking sample that I can even spray. Please update your website seems like your employees have a lot of free time to stand around looking like they are not even working at the store. Shameful!

Very disappointing. Recently ordered my second bottle of a 240 dollar perfume . The second bottle was off. Acidic smelling and certainly not like the first . I was told to send it back for review and was told no it is Exactly the same and smells how it should. I know this is not true. It is vastly different and I would’ve never spent that kind of money. My colleague at work also has the perfume. She’s the one that encouraged me to get it and hers smells nothing like this one. She also bought from this store. I was very satisfied with my first bottle and I think I just got an expired bottle and this company will not work with me to replace it. Both her and I will be purchasing elsewhere.

Probably one of my favorite stores on the planet‼️ It was established in the 1800’s as a German Apothecary in Lincoln Square which was the German part of Chicago. The selection of imported soaps, creams, vitamins and scented body products is amazing and beautifully laid out. The staff are super nice and helpful. My son and husband get their specially scented beard oil there. I find it a wonderland of imported soaps and beauty products. When you are visiting this area don’t miss it. The store itself is so beautiful. It feels like we are visiting Europe and the scents are wonderful.
